I grew up on a fruit farm. Fruits with a solid skin (apples, pears, peaches, plums etc) can be washed with a small amount of dish soap and then very much water. Soaking fruit with solid skins in water that is 20% vinegar also kills bacteria. But rinsing with water being poured over will only remove dust or mild dirt. Soft berries such as raspberries and strawberries should not ever be soaked as they begin to disintegrate. Every state has different regulations on which type of sprays are allowed on fruit. Some farmers use soap based sprays which rinse off in the rain.
If you are very concerned about such things, research the spray regulations in the place where you live, or buy organic. When we picked raspberries, before eating them fresh we would turn them over and look inside the cup to see if there was a small bug because they often find a hiding place there. If Strawberries have some dirt on them, rinse quickly and eat immediately. But out in the field we would often eat while we were picking, and as long as we examine the fruit closely first before putting in our mouth, we have no problems.

I live near the shore of Lake Michigan, feels like the ocean. You cannot see across the lake, nice sandy beaches, huge waves. I have been to the ocean, feels similar. It is approximately 307 miles long and 118 miles across at it's widest point, average depth is 279' at it's deepest is 925' it is shared by Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin . Love the shorts!

I live in Michigan. We are surrounded by 4 of the 5 Great Lakes, so both of our large peninsulas are surrounded by primarily beach coast property, with a few rocky areas and a few wetlands. When we are at the Lake it does look like the sea, and sometimes we accidentally call it the ocean or the sea. The Great Lakes are so large they make their own weather, and they’re much larger than some bodies of water that have Sea in the title. You can drive along the coast for hundreds of miles, and even in central lower Michigan you’re not more than 90 minutes from a Great Lake. I invite you to come explore Michigan, especially Up North, along Lakes Michigan and Superior, and our Upper Peninsula of which a large portion remains in its natural condition by being State and National Forest or Park lands. ✋🏽💙🌲🌊🌅

I have lived in both Los Angeles and St. Louis. I go to a lake in Southern Illinois, and it does have sandy swimming beaches. Also in the Ozarks of southern Missouri there are lots of beaches along the streams where people go on weekends. Most are gravel but there are some sandy places. Some people are surprised to learn that Mississippi has snow-white sandy beaches, although the water is a bit murky due to the outflow from the Mississippi River I think----not as clear blue-green as the gulf coast of Florida. My cousins have a condo at Gulf Shores, Alabama, which is a rapidly-growing beach town.

If you want to see a Northeast Ohio beach just watch any of the D Day War re-enactments Conneaut, Ohio. There is also a sandbar there between a half mile -mile out that the water is only ankle deep sometimes. Then if a person feels ice cold water they should turn back because it drops off and people have died in the turbulent underflow under the water. You can't see it from above. Pretty much the beaches between Cleveland Ohio and Erie Pa are like that. Some have breakwalls to prevent erosion.

There is big beaches in Duluth on lake superior that go for miles in Minnesota were you can see ships that feel like your on the ocean. There is even beaches on little small lakes In mn land of 10,000 lakes but you have to remember in the summer now you can get swimmers itch real bad in the lakes unless there spring fed. Alot of berries like raspberries, blueberries, highbush cranberries and a few other berries I eat right off the plant in the woods and don't wash them I feel washing them is only personal preference but I guess if there store bought and shipped in I'd say wash them For chemicals but if they were picked fresh off the plant I wouldnt. Johhny someday you should visit minnesota up in the north woods it's a diffrent world from southern Minnesota were minneapolis is up north is living more off the land fish small game venison homemade cooking. Country living there is alot of older houses that seem like Ukrainian country homes were we use curtains for doors and woodstoves to heat.

Oh, and perhaps salt water beaches compared to fresh water in lakes (non-salty). Just my opinion. Regarding washing the fruits, you are correct about pesticides and other chemicals back in the U.S. I don't know if Ukraine also uses chemicals, or even if those fruits came from Ukraine. The beaches of the Great Lakes (especially the large ones of which are up to 6 miles or 10 kilometres long) are literally no different than being on a similarly sandy beach that’s ocean side in places elsewhere on the planet, with the exception of a few key takeaways… Those being the lack of tropical vegetation (things like palm trees) and that it’s all fresh (not salty) water!! Oh, and that the water temperature isn’t always as warm due to having seasons… Otherwise they’re quite idyllic and massively popular destinations in the summertime!

Only went into the Atlantic. The Pacific waters were too cold as was the Gulf. I like the oceans better than lakes because there is more sand and more room for people who like to set up chairs and towels. I prefer swimming pools, because I can see what my feet are standing, and there is no chance of riptides and undertow.

Great video Johnny!. If you travel back to the US, consider Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Navarre beaches!. Beautiful, and less crowded. The Panhandle is beautiful, and less populated than Central Florida!. Driving in Central Florida is similar to driving in LA gridlock! Enjoy the weekend holiday! I travel to Gulf Breeze Florida often.

Thanks for the tips! I actually looked into real estate in Pensacola and did some research on that city. It's surprisingly affordable there still for a beach town.

I hate crowded beaches. Luckily I have one to be alone there to swim.

I live in the Adirondack mts of NY Johnny and it's like that all over the place here. Many many beaches, some of them more rocky than others but usually sand and BBQs! And I wash all store fruit... Who knows what's on it 🤷‍♂️

To be safe wash all fruit, put in a large seive, place in a bowl then a table spoon of baking soda and applecider vinegar. Stir it around in this solution well, lift sive/screen out of bowl and run clean water over the fruit, shake it a little. Then pour it into a clean container and cover with a lid or suran wrap. This will nutralize any chemical sprays. The chemical sprays are oil based, this solution should nutralize any spray. Use the ripe fruit as soon as possible for freshness.
