They can hold thousands of liters of water in their mouth at once, basically forcing krill in by the suction of opening its mouth. It also has to close its mouth. There's a size limit based on the time it takes to close its mouth (thus potentially letting food escape) versus how much food it requires. At a certain point, it will literally become to big to be able to eat.
