    For those who have never built a house, it's hard to beat that feeling when you finally walk through the finished product. Starting with the day you cleared and leveled the lot till then. There are days when you say "man, I have surely bit off more than I can chew here..." But then after an indescribable amount of work and worry, it's done. Great job, EC.

      Sure I had this feeling when I designed and watched my house being built by contractor. About 1070 squared meters which is almost 12000 sq. ft. costs me around $ 800,000 in 2004 and still living in

      But of course; the amount of work was described in detail. Beautifully crafted home Scott. The solid sound of the door latches, hardwood floors, stair railings, and overall amazing attention to every detail.

    Dear Master Scott, I watched all your 150 episodes taking notes for the important issues you explained, many thanks, we have been building a traditional Turkish wooden frame house for me in Turkey now, the contractor didn't think it was needed an osb over the housewrap but a direct siding would be enough, when I watch your episode which was about the osb over housewrap I added it for my house, I learnt from you that it will be much stronger during an earthquake and an extra layer to prevent rainwater, thank you again, I learnt much and all things needed.

    The whole series was eye opening but the parts that really got me were the stair railings and the poured concrete. Simply amazing the attention to details. I even learned something about painting and sheetrock. If the event I get work done or build a house, I will review segments of this series to make sure it is done properly. The story about the dueling blacksmiths is now part of my Thanksgiving tradition. Thank you...$610K is a steal!!

    If only there was a way to duplicate this level of dedication and care for every house. They are throwing together matchstick houses with pre-warped siding on every bare piece of land in my town and selling them for 2x what I paid four years ago. Half the size of my current home, twice the price, and 1/8th the craftsmanship!

      @@darrinpennington very true. But it still doesn't explain the outrageous quality-cost ratio that a lot of places have right now. It's not. Hard to take a few extra seconds here and there to make sure it's done right and have some pride in your work. But most contractors don't care and just want to make the money as fast as possible

    • @dustina6261
      @dustina6261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Uhhh everybody in every and any industry wants to make money as fast as possible. You’re telling me your business or company that you work for or run takes as long as possible to “do it right”? Spending the most and taking the longest doesn’t equal more profit and has put many contractors and companies out of business sadly. Quality and perfection went away when people stopped being willing to pay for it, I don’t like it but it’s the world we live in. Washers/dryer/car/stoves/microwaves all don’t last much more than 5years not because they can’t make them better. Because quality isn’t profitable

    • @RabidParana1
      @RabidParana1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dustina6261 it's about finding a balance. I'm a Shingler and in my trade it sure as hell is about getting things done as fast as possible. But if your quality gets sacrificed for speed then it can cause major problems and ends up costing you in the long run.
      Edited to add:
      We're talking about big time builders charging premium prices for houses that most people are going to spend the rest of their life paying off but only have a 5 year warranty because they're built by the cheapest sub contractors that can only make a living if they make that sacrifice on quality and walk away before it's a problem.

    I’ve been in residential construction my whole life and I’m not alone in saying this has been the best, most gratifying and educational video series in that genre. Scott, Nate, and all the other craftsmen have opened their hearts,, minds and lives up to so many who tuned in for every video with delightful anticipation on what we were going to learn. I’ll miss this house that I’ve watched for almost 2 years. I certainly hope there is much more to come from two men that really understand craftsmanship like you two do! As a young builder having recently started my own construction company, this series and this channel have been invaluable to my career. Additionally, I have picked up several life lessons along the way and I feel a warm familial connection towards Scott and Nate. I believe that this series is a landmark in the field of construction and professional education. Thank you, Scott and Nate, from the bottom of my heart. Wow, I don't think I've ever been in a house (any any building) where all of the reveals around the doors are that close to perfect. I hadn't really thought about how important using nice doorknobs are, but it makes perfect sense.

    I have watched almost the entire series and I’ve seen the meticulous essential craftsmanship that has gone into this very very well-built home. I commend you for the in-depth look you have given us into your methods on this project.
    My very crude evaluation is that the house is worth $1.2 M. Whoever purchased that house for 610 did get a bargain because there’s no home in that region which is built as well as that one what does much attention to detail care and thoughtfulness.

I have been retired for 15 years , and did furniture as my retirement vocation , but seeing this series has been very enjoyable to remember how houses were built from start to finish , keep up the good work , Peter

    Love the sound of the doors opening and closing. Solid, safe, comforting sound of a place that will house its family for a long, long time.

    Brilliant. Very nice. A modern house (Essential) with the character of an old house (Craftsman). Love the series. Learn a lot from all your videos.

    Very nice house that was built with passion. The most beautiful there is the surrounding area I wish if I could live in at least for one or two months especially during spring time. I guess it is going to be legendary

    Did a good job brother. I like it. It was fun to see you at it the last year+. I moved just below you and remodeled my house in Cali while I saw it come together. God bless you, your family/friends and all the viewers who've gone with you on this journey.

    I started watching the channel back right before you started on the spec house. It's been an awesome journey, thanks for bringing us along on it. And thanks to Nate for great video recording and editing.
    It's a testament to the quality of not only the workmanship of the house but the videos as well, to keep everyone coming back. 141 episodes is quite a lot of work, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

    Very well done, Scott. I’ve watched all the Spec House videos (well, most all) and this video tour showed the house very well. While watching, I always had a sense of where I was in the house.
    I really appreciated your description of the front door and lock set. I’ve been saying similar things about quality and craftsmanship for years.
    Lastly, my favorite part of the house is the handrail on the winders. I remember the episode showing your effort and craftsmanship on that handrail - all those angles and dimensions are amazing.
    Thanks, always, Scott and Nate and your family for all your hard work with EC. You are providing a valuable resource that, truly, is invaluable.
    Best,
    Greg

    I've been a view for some time and watched this build from day one.
    The quality and care you put into this is no doubt carried through all of your work.
    Great timing on selling too, top of the market.

    I'm a little sad to see the end of a series I've enjoyed for so long but glad that it turned out as beautifully as it did... Currency conversion and US property prices are mind boggling. $610k (converted to about 10 million South African Rand) would get you an ultra-premium house in an elite neighborhood or a castle outside a main city

    • @fprintf
      @fprintf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comparatively. $610K won't get you much of anything in greater New York, Boston or much of coastal California. You'd be lucky to get a house built in 1965 that needs all kinds of repair for that kind of money. I was thinking that the new homeowners got such a crazy bargain, but I've never been to that part of rural Oregon, so maybe it is right on.

    It looks amazing, you have done an outstanding job. I personally am grateful you took the brave decision to build a house from scratch on a challenging site and film it all in such detail. The quality of the videos you published are up the with the standard of the house. I also really enjoyed the human dimension you presented throughout with the accolades of experts you brought in and your own personable delivery. And you made very complex concrete work look very easy!

    amazing series. I have learned so much. It is one thing to buy a house and get excited by the ambience, the new fixtures etc... it is another thing to watch a house being built. To see all the logistics involved, the intricate parts of the structure. I learned what a king stud is and its purpose, what a cripple stud is and where it is used and how weight is transferred from the roof to the foundation. I learned about the pros and cons of crawl spaces, the importance of space in the crawl space, the importance of 'square', how to tie a string, and finally, the best part of the entire series for me was listening to the plumber and the effort it takes to keep water away from the structure . Amazing work EC.... amazing work.
