    This looks AMAZING! For other amateurs such as myself out there, an easy way to get your metallic looking the way you want is to add matt black to darken and matt white to lighten. Obviously you can't go half & half or anything, because you're mixing metallic with non metallic. However, I've found when I need an extra few shades up or down from my base color it works really really well to add a drop or so.

    A tip for gaps between the parts, if the gap is not to severe, I paint over the gap with brush on primer. It's thick enought to cover small gaps (even when a bit thinned down like I like). You can then spray prime afterwards to make the color uniform before painting.

    • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like this tip! It’s what I was going for with the varnish! That works pretty much the same way but I find it hardens/thicker. But yeah as we can see, didn’t work here did it :-D

    Those gaps with some layers of citadel glue, melts those lines perfectly. So no green stuff needed. You need to glue wait till dries and then add more glue. Should melt it together.

    Pro tip, buy a bottle of airbrush thinner to thin the Contrast paints. Works a lot better than the medium. You can just use water but the airbrush thinner has binders in it that doesn’t break down the integrity of the acrylics as much.

    I'm also doing mine with Plaguebearer for the skin. I think I may do yellow for the shields, and I want to try out doing the gw brown gloss as a final step over the whole model to tie everything together and reduce how pastel contrast only paint jobs sometimes look. Try for a bit of Grim dark / blanchitsu look with the yellows and browns

    My advice for push fit is to trim down the pegs which never seem to fully penetrate the plugs they are supposed to fit in. I suppose it is an air pressure thing, because you compress the air in the plug as you insert the pin and the air can't escape. The though occurs that maybe channelling the plug might work. Anyway cut the plug down and you get a better fit.

    Model looks great. Did you paint over the varnish with Wraithbone first? I've fixed cracks like that before and never had any issues.

    • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I didn’t. I think that’s my mistake isn’t it. I thought the contrast would colour it but either it’s not thick enough or just rolled off the clear varnish and therefore left the crack visible! Obviously I could easily correct it but it’s nice to show people when things don’t work sometimes too

    Curious if you have tried Plastic Putty Filler from "DELUXE MATERIALS" to fill gaps on GW miniatures. This filler is used by modelers for seams on planes, tanks, etc. After it dries, you can clean it up with a damp cloth or Q-tip. I am planning to try it on these same models.

    Absolutely love this. Do you think militarum green would lose a lot of the 'pop'/contrast against leathers etc? I'd want hobgrots to be lighter/yellower green than kruleboyz and obvious route would be to make them plaguebearer and Orks militarum...

    • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the color of your leather. I might go with a reddish brown (like mournfang) or dark grey (like Corvus black).

  • @filipdebacker
    @filipdebacker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love the idea of contrast paints, but to start with them... For example a Space Wolf with the Space Wolves Contrast paint. If you spill some brown (when painting gun/knife pockets) on the lighter blue on the leg, will it be easy to correct it like normal paints?

    • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, Mike here - That's one of the downsides of contrast paints - they are a bit harder to correct. You'd have to paint that area white again, then reapply the contrast paint. It takes a bit of getting used to. Paint your hardest to reach areas first to minimize the chance of accidentally getting paint onto a spot you don't want it - or if you plan on doing any kind of highlighting, you can correct the mistake at that point.

    • @WatchItPaintIt

      White primer will make this all a little brighter! Skeleton bone will be close to the colours here. There’s a video on the channel where we paint hobos from Batman, half of them were primed in Wraith Bone and half in Skeleton Bone. • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, definitely not. However, you could use that black undercoat as part of a zenithal prime. If you watch this video th-cam.com/video/9DBJl_LKQtc/w-d-xo.html we show how to do it with rattlecans. Super easy and that DOES work with contrast paints. You don't need to have a grey primer for the zenithal prime. You can do both the grey & white stage with just white.

    Hey guys,
    So you have had the two sets for a while and I got a question:
    - whats better for your wallet...Starter or MegaSet?
    What I mean is.. some collors in the MegaSet seem really alike, is the money worth it on the MegaSet or is the Starter enough? Or should i go Contrast as in the video?

    • @WatchItPaintIt
      @WatchItPaintIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I had to pick just one I’d go for the mega set, unless I was just starting out and not sure if I like painting yet - I think that’s where the start works out good (or if money is really tight). I’m lucky and have the luxury of having them all so I’ll pick the right colour/tool each time. I will use contrast of the colour is closer to what I want or if the reactivation problem matters. I’ll use Speedpaint if I was a slightly better paint job or to save money.

      Oh yes! I find Plaguemarines join badly too but I Green stuff them before I paint. Should have done this here too! Would be nicer if they line was better hidden though

    Never used contrast before but this is really nice, think I'm gonna copy it, only thing I might change is wood or leather colour just to push it further away from each other, just dunno what colours yet

      I think that’s a really good idea. To be honest I might have done the same but I didn’t have any of the other browns available! Have you seen GW are releasing some new contrasts specifically for these orks? Including one for the leather!

      @@WatchItPaintIt I thought they was normal paints? I'm still bit unsure on contrast really, normally paint with airbrush and normal paints but need to get 2K worth built and painted within a month and just dunno if my lazy ass can do it again lol
