  • The double leg takedown is the most common takedown in Wrestling and MMA.
You can drill the technique on your own which will speed up the entry and execution of the movement.
Focus on each element of the movement:
    Drop Step/Level Change
Get as low as you can as you take a step with your lead foot, keeping your weight even in both feet.
    Penetration
Push of both feet to get as far forward as possible to your front knee without leaning forward. Keep your head over your hips.
    Step Up
Use the momentum of the penetration to bring your rear leg up in to a strong driving/pushing position.
    Drive
Push of the rear leg to drive your opponent on a 45 degree angle to run him to the mat.

Do not place your back leg on the ground first you must first put your front knee first on the ground after you have moved otherwise you lose penetration distance and speed and the opponent can just move backwards and sprawl even if you are at a good distance

How would you do it then?

The way he does it is not really relevant as he is not putting weight on his back leg...he is just bringing the knee down to lower his hips

Bro nice that you have tattoo only on one leg. It’s easier for me to follow legs. Don’t get tattoo on other leg or use different colour. Great video

Good for wrestling but it an MMA context it's too risky to get that low. MMA figjters tend to adapt the height of their level to just what's necessary to go below the guard. You gain a fraction of second but that's all you need to get an edge on your opponent

No, if you're lucky it can turn out perfectly, many MMA fighters have turned out very well.

too low? you need to be that low for a double leg otherwise it would be called a tackle.

      You are correct

this is false. no shit if you just go for a takedown they will see your going for a takedown. ever heard of setups? faints? reading opponents reactions? any of that? if you only go for a head kick with no setups or faints, they will know your going for a head kick. you could say that about everything. use setups and faints correctly and you can use almost anything and it will work. if you just say nah it dont work in mma then dont train it. u will never be able to use it even when you see perfect opportunities because you either will 1. know you dont know how do to it proper, or 2. you will see opening and get cocky and go for it, and then thats when it gets dangourous. you dont train it so you dont know what to defend from there in your point of view. its about muscle memory mixed with knowledge. learning more never hurts. also for you saying it doesnt work in mma is absolutely hilarious considering one of the most dominant arts in mma is wrestling. and there are TONS of mma fighters who successfully double leg their opponents as much as they want. if you see it not working. you need to train it till it works. stop making excuses.

Nice - Having watched this, I am going to try letting my back knee go down to the ground first rather than focusing on my front knee and see if that helps.

Some things wrong about this guys technique, whether it be mma or wrestling. He doesnt bring his hips out after his knee touches the floor. Easy correction tbh but missing out on a lot of power if youre not doing that. Also will make your knee lighter. Instead he keeps hes hips back when they should be springing forward as the knee touches the floor.
Also he isnt driving off at an angle at all....

does the drop step count as the level change? im a bit confused as i have seen in pure wrestling videos they level change then step, i found this kinda hard to do in mma whereas when i followed your video i did the double leg much better? (Amazing video btw)

    • @PredatorsMMAGym
      @PredatorsMMAGym  ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thanks for the comment. Yes, a drop step is a type of level change. It allows you to close the distance a bit before you penetrate to your knee - in MMA you will generally be shooting from further out anyway.
A good general rule would be to just level change if you are shooting a high double and drop step if you are shooting a low double.
Hope that helps, but feel free to reply if you would like any further clarification.

simply avoiding resting your knee on the street.. Do the same movement but instead of resting your knee just leave it suspended near the floor.

I am currently doing wrestling but I am planning to switch into MMA in the future should I practice my wrestling with left foot forward? Instead of traditional right foot forward?(My right foot is dominant)

Theres absolutely no need to knee drop if youre standing completely upright like that. This needs to be talked about more. You better be reslly good at that if you wanna do it so upright because youre just never going to get it otherwise
