The fact that in the Attitude Era, there was such a large amount of headlining top tier talent, and all running storylines that not only made sense but, had amazing timing to them. That fact was like magnets to young kids. Not to long or short and filled with memorable experiences. What a time to be in early to mid teens and a fan 🤘🏽

And it's still the GREATEST era in professional wrestling/WWE. No matter how terrible or cringe things were during the Attitude Era. You can't help at how entertaining it was. The top stars, the mid carders, the commentary, the storylines, feuds, promos, segments & matches. Every week we were all glued to the TV to keep watching what's going to happen next. There will never be another era like the Attitude Era. And it's sill and always will be better than today's wrestling. Even in the future of wrestling. It can't be topped! And let us not forget how huge the ratings were. Merchandise/toy sales. Crazy how wrestling will never be this good again.

Stone Cold winning King of the Ring probably started the slow transition toward it.

@tmac731 Nope. You must be young. The Nation of Domination was started in the fall of 1996, before The Rock was in the wwf. It started about a month or two before Rock's debut. It was a big group started by Farooq and was multicultural with Black's, Hawaiians, whites, and Puerto Ricans.
The first version had Farooq, DLo, Mason, and Wolfie D and his tag partner (They were the first white rappers in the wwf. Back when Cena's ass was still in college). Then they added Crush and Savio, the Puerto Rican. The white tag team got cut eventually. And so did the Hawiian, Crush. He got replaced by Kama Mustafa (the eventual Godfather). Then Savio quit. Savio got replaced by Ahmed Johnson. Then after that Ahmed Johnson got hurt, he got replaced by Rocky Mavia.
There were 3/4 iterations of the NOD before Rock joined and Owen.

As such The one feud I would stick in here that I think also very much to find a certain period of the attitude era would be the rock and triple h.
You kind of covered the first bit of it by talking about how DX feuded with the nation. That led to that pretty great ladder match for the intercontinental title.
But once Mick Foley was done fighting triple h, and Steve Austin was out of the picture for a year, the biggest battle was between triple h and The Rock.

Not to mention that Steve Austin was more over and more popular than Cody Rhodes. Weeks after Wrestlemania, fans were calling for Cody Rhodes to lose the title….this never happened to babyface Steve Austin. And finally, Steve Austin’s merchandise is still the highest-grossing merch all-time and neither the revenues of Cody’s nor Roman’s merchandise is anywhere close to Steve Austin’s merch….in fact the revenue of the merchandise belonging to the leader of the Ruthless Aggression Era, John Cena, is higher than both Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.

The Attitude era would never have existed had it not been for WCW/NWO. WWF/WWE was losing in ratings and had to come up with great storytelling, and because of this they defeated WCW. I believe the Attitude Era really came to a close when Vince bought WCW, after that if feels like they stopped trying, no real competition, even ECW folded and Vince bought up their assets. For a while WWE wasn't good, but thankfully there has been a resurgence in the last few years.

I always think of WMX8 as being the end of the attitude era. Austin leaves right after and then Rock becomes Hollywood. Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and Randy Orton show up after this Mania too. To me it feels like the perfect place to end the Attitude Era and bring in the Ruthless Aggression Era.

Vince McMahon being revealed as the higher power made sense .He suckered Austin and cost him the title. It maybe wasn't the most creative direction but in terms of logic it made sense

The best era ever! Grew up in this era and going from the more edgier stuff to the PG stuff that we had later on is just too boring too watch.

  • @ssssssstssssssss

America vs Canada should be on the list. It was the second best storyline of the era and possibly most creative. Also some of the ones on the list are not really storylines, like DX.
