Clint is awesome. I was walking down St. George street an heard his voice at the St. Augustine songwriters festival. I was very impressed. Then I had to find out more about him. He's a cool dude. I got to talk to him for about 30 minutes. I could not believe all of the songs he wrote. He even wrote songs with E.T.C. Country music needs to see more of this guy. He's the real deal. And a Florida boy.
I didn't know that Clint wrote this song... it's just terrific. One of the best country and any other genre songs I have ever heard. His kids lucked out with this kind of Dad. Bravo!
Dang! I was blessed to hear Clint Daniels close out an open air concert at Bogle Winery in Clarksburg, California with this song! The words and melody ring out so true about the graces and grit from life.
Wow, so good! what a song and sound. Clint might not remember this but I use to go to his house when he was a toddler and pick and sing Merle Haggard with his daddy. Clint would be dragging around a toy and singing with us. Great memories, I thank God for them.
This song IS really great... one of the best songs I have ever heard. Gracias, amigos! Glad it made it onto Eric Church's album... and hope you make a million! Deserves every dollar you can make. Wow.
I think the low E string drops ALL the way down to B and the rest of the guitar is simply tuned down 3 half steps. B F# B E G# C# Then the chord patterns are then amazingly just D (it's a beautiful, rich "D" because you get to keep the open B string), A, Bbm and G (slightly modified G because of the drop B string). I think this actually makes it equivalent "drop D" tuning but it's in disguise because we started so much lower. Fantastic version, amazing voice.
Sixstringcountry has an amazing breakdown of the entire song. It’s pretty much spot-on. As mentioned, I think this version drops to B. The studio recording is in open C.

This is one of Eric Church’s best songs. Can’t believe it almost didn’t make the album! Congrats to Clint.

To me, this is better than the version on the album.
We agree 110%!
I would love to know the chords and the tuning of the guitar on this song
