Country people prefer to socialize and have conversations while having a little drink. Nothing wrong with that. I think this song comes legitimately from a sincere heart. Jesus will meet us anywhere we find ourselves if we call his name. Just like the blind man who called out "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy of me!" as he sat by the road begging (Luke 18:38). Jesus didn't say, "Clean him up and bring him to the nearest synagogue." Instead, Jesus dealt with the blind man right there by the road side and asked him "What do you want me to do for you?". I love this song for that reason.
I love this song cause it hits home for me. When I was 17 I fell asleep behind the wheel. My foot floored it and I got up to 68 mile per hour. Right before I hit the car at the light I woke up and I felt arms wrap around me and told me to sleep. for the few seconds of impact I was unconscious. Needless to say me and the driver both walked away with no injurys. The cop that did the report from the hospital told my mom he has no idea how I am still alive let alone without a scratch. Jesus saved me that day and the guy I unfortunately hit. If I get the chance I would love to ask Jesus why he saved me that day.

Hey Thomas, I just wanted to say that I truly understand the message in this song... I've done a lot of wrong in my time, but I truly wish I could just sit down and have that "beer" with Jesus to let him know I really don't know what I'm doing in life, but I appreciate more than anything that he gave his life to see people like me to the greater side of the afterlife..

this is a beautiful and honest song by a great country artist, you people make me angry arguing about " Jesus would not drink beer", well i think that is the opposite of the truth. Jesus came to minister and heal and save the lost sinner, to deliver the oppressed and love everyone. So please dont post ignorant comments unless you know exactly what Jesus would do, and as far as I am concerned Jesus was the only human being ever to live a sinless life and yes he did drink wine with alcahol in it. I have a beer with Jesus about once a week, maybe twice. I work evenings at a restaurant so I work late. One of my favourite things to do after work is to go to the pub across the road, often in the middle of week when it’s quieter (sometimes I’m the only customer there) or on the weekend if I need a bite to eat after work too, order a pint and just talk to the Lord about what’s going in my life and what’s on my mind. I still go to church on Sunday and read my Bible every morning but I also enjoy just sitting there with a cold one and just talking my Lord and Saviour.

My grandpa listened to this song a lot .... we didnt know he had stage 4 cancer. It came quick to take him. But I think he knew something was wrong he was so good at hiding the pain. He showed me this song I was very surprised becouse he hasn't been strong in showing his faith for many years. Near the end he knew and listening to this song again makes me think....he is probably sharing a beer with the lord now. Up in heaven fishin and drinkin with jesus. Thanks for writing this song. this is a beautiful and honest song by a great country artist, you people make me angry arguing about " Jesus would not drink beer", well i think that is the opposite of the truth. Jesus came to minister and heal and save the lost sinner, to deliver the oppressed and love everyone. I have a beer with Jesus about once a week, maybe twice. I work evenings at a restaurant so I work late. One of my favourite things to do after work is to go to the pub across the road, often in the middle of week when it’s quieter (sometimes I’m the only customer there) or on the weekend if I need a bite to eat after work too, order a pint and just talk to the Lord about what’s going in my life and what’s on my mind. I still go to church on Sunday and read my Bible every morning but I also enjoy just sitting there with a cold one and just talking my Lord and Saviour.

My grandpa listened to this song a lot .... we didnt know he had stage 4 cancer. It came quick to take him. But I think he knew something was wrong he was so good at hiding the pain. He showed me this song I was very surprised becouse he hasn't been strong in showing his faith for many years. Near the end he knew and listening to this song again makes me think....he is probably sharing a beer with the lord now. Up in heaven fishin and drinkin with jesus. Thanks for writing this song. Jesus was more than likely a real person, but his affiliation with/as an entity is wishy washy just as any mythological story. I wouldn't pray that you follow Zeus or Apollo, Worship Mohammed or Buddha..there is no need to recruit to your faith team. All religion does is segregate, I think if we spent more time loving instead of labelling..the earth would be a much more livable place.
