I haven't commented yet, but I've been watching all your videos. I felt the need to comment on this one. Girl, you are way stronger than you realize. You don't need anyone. Not one single person to get you to Maine. To be honest, a trail family only compromises YOUR hike and YOUR journey. I hiked the entire trail solo in 2022 (I'm a woman, for what it's worth.) I chose to do it that way and I loved every single moment. The best part is? You make trail friends. Every day, you have new people in your adventure and when you meet again either the next day or a month from now, you're always excited to see them and catch up. BUT, they don't affect the path you're taking. You have the freedom to make this hike whatever you want it to be. You're never alone out there. Ever. And you have all your followers in the comments cheering you on. I hope you realize that you DO belong. Mother nature accepts everyone.

Your emotion reminds me of Bad Bat from last year. She ended up finding new hiker friends along her journey when she lost ones she had been hiking with. I will be hoping that for you! 🥾😍

Badbat shed many tears when she’d lose a friend. Love her.

Hang in there Rissa. I was in the class of 2019 and can assure you that I questioned my sanity on the trail. You are a strong woman who is not alone. Your tramily will change over the course of your hike. Remember, the trail will provide. You are still getting used to the trail and developing your trail legs. Don’t be hard on yourself for your emotions. Best advice I can offer is try to stay out of your head and know that you do belong to this crazy family called through hikers. Thanks for being real. There are a lot of us watching rooting for you. You got this! Hike on Rissa.

I feel for you❤ we all want to be part of something and you are! As a person with more time on the planet than you, I’ll share something I learned. Every person that comes into your life offers you something… love, friendship, a lesson, joy… something. It may only last a moment, but it’s there and it real. Embrace it and know that you are the ONLY person you will always be with, so be comfortable with your own company and strength. I envy your bravery and joy of life. Remember, we’re never really alone😉

When I saw your comments about being alone I remembered one of the big lessons I learned in 2019. If you want to make it to Maine, you have to be ok with whatever happens during your journey. It’s very long and very hard and a lot of things will happen. You have to be ok with being alone for a while if that happens. Be prepared for that and be ok with it. Very important. I ended up being the weak link in my tramily and I lost them in the smokies when I stopped short during a massive rain storm and got shelter. It poured SO hard all day and night and they had to push 20 miles to get to a shelter where there was room for them. I saw them again at hot springs. I was hiking into town as they were leaving and I had to double zero because of injury. I WAS TOTALLY ALONE and it was devastating. Things like that WILL happen to you. Come to terms with it now, don’t doesn’t crush your (already weak spirit) when/if it happens. By the way, within a week I found people to hike with again. It may happen several times to you! It’s all part of the journey.

Marissa, I feel for you. As I told you in the last video, I'm old enough to be your grandmother & have had to deal with the same type emotions in the years since hubby died. As I've gotten older, friends I used to pal around with have either died or moved away. There's a constant struggle to remind myself that God is enough, that Jesus is the friend that sticks closer than a brother, I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me, etc etc. Yet there's often that feeling of “I want somebody with skin on." Some folks prefer the life of a hermit, and I am definitely somewhat of a loner. However, I would also like to have people close by “within hollerin distance," as they say. I'm praying for you every day, and hope that by now it's gotten easier for you. I can tell you are a determined young lady, and you're going to make it all the way! Extra tender, extra tough. Those temperaments often go together. BTW, your location in the videos thus far is close to where I live, so it's been fun to see familiar areas.

Like life itself, this is a marathon! You will get stronger and faster. You’ll see! The people will come and go, just like in life itself. Your journey is like living a mini lifetime inside a bigger one. There’s a beginning, a middle and an end. Embrace all three as they come…you got this!

Your vulnerability is very beautiful to witness. It is HARD to be lonely. I see a lot of myself in you. You are doing something so brave and wonderful and if it wasn’t hard, it probably wouldn’t have the same impact. But, you know that already. You are very in touch with yourself, your feelings, and your ability to share that is really something special.

Hang in there! Like others have said, you are definitely not alone. I can relate to your feelings so much, of wanting to belong & not feeling like I do. Even as I comment here I know that as a section hiker I know my experience is different from yours but I really wanted to let you know that you are not alone in your feelings!

Hang in there Risa You are doing great. As others have said different friends you make on the trail will move on but others will appear and when you meet up with those you know you will all be happy to see each other. Don’t have too many expectations just let the trail lead you on and enjoy what it has to offer. Praying God will keep you safe and surround you with his love and the love of others!

I would say “stay strong” but you already are. 💪🏻 . Ups and downs. Windy. Rocky. And then good weather with some trail magic. All in 1 day. Most people don’t get that much life in a year.

To feel how you feel I think is what makes us human and gives us humility. If someone has a 100% positive day every day I would check they had a heart❤ You will find a way to push those demons in your head aside and find strength from your soul. I am sure you CAN do this and WILL do this but in YOUR time and not on someone else’s timetable. Keep going with that wonderful smile and know that you cheer and inspire over 3000 people around the world 😊

That's some real insight you shared...the need to belong....it's why we root for teams and wear their gear...when you learn you are becoming one with the trail, it won't hurt as much to be separated...in a week or two your legs will be able to do 20 miles...hang in there.❤

Stay nourished and hydrated! One day at a time! Remember the pace each person has doesn’t equate to belonging. YOU ARE THERE. The trail has
Embraced YOU. And you have embraced her. People come and go throughout our whole lives.
My father was absent most of my life. It’s a journey. We persevere no matter where our journey takes us.

Tramilies come and go - it’s rare to be able to stay with the same people for a long time, although it’s wonderful when it happens. You gotta grieve, and then be ready to welcome the next people into your life. Get contact info for those you know you’re separating from! Some of my tramily over the years are still my dearest friends. I hope you meet more like minded folks as you go.

It is natural to feel alone and isolated in the woods. But:
“When you do something noble and beautiful and nobody noticed, do not be sad. For the sun every morning is a beautiful spectacle and yet most of the audience still sleeps.” John Lennon
Wishing you safe passage and good fortune. Happy Trails!

Think about this, the person in the lead is going to make it alone also. Seems like you are beating yourself up but you really shouldn't. How many hikes have the others done compared to you? How often do they train for the hikes? There are other variables that you need to take into consideration. Finish the hike at your own pace enjoying the scenery along the way. Don't put yourself up against anyone else just be the best Rissa you can be. You are not competing against anyone, remember that.
