As soon as you turn your back however, they come real close and give you that death stare same that they do to their prey. I’m not scared of sharks. I’ve had it once where a barracuda has followed me for a whole dive, I’ve had to scare it away, thinking I’m safe, only to find 10 minutes later this 1.5 meter beast with teeth like knives has followed and stalked me back to the boat and is a mere few feet from me. It gave me a jumpscare. I was kinda done for the day.

My old coworker told me about a time when he was learning to be an underwater welder, and one of his peers was wearing a silver chain. When they dove all together, they got to where they were going, and the instructor grabbed that person's head and shoved it down in front of his body. My coworker said he only saw a sliver of flash whiz by, and so the instructor immediately signaled to go surface. And once they talked, he clarified that the barracuda would've chewed that guy's neck up if he didn't react as soon as he did.
Thank you for the information about ciguatera poisoning and the fact that around where you fish it is extremely rare. What I've heard that if you put a piece of the barracuda out and the bugs and ants start eating it, that is an indication that the meat does not have the toxins. I loved all the variety of fish that you caught in two days. That hammerhead and the sailfish fight was awesome! We have caught some bigger barracudas in the Bahamas. The locals had no problems cooking and eating it. It was delicious! Amazing video as always.
Not as into fishing as much as I was when I was younger, but I just stumbled across your channel tonight and I’ll say this, your content is the best fishing content on TH-cam imo. In my younger days we’d take an all night charter deep sea fishing trip once or twice a year in Panama City!
The smell is caused by trimethylamine oxide (TMAO) in their flesh. When the fish is stressed or dies, TMAO breaks down into trimethylamine (TMA), which has a strong, unpleasant odor resembling ammonia or rotting fish.
I'd love to fish like you can for a day. I haven't been able to fish for years due to work and trying to find better work and pay, which hasn't happened. Much love man. I hope you get some great catches soon! Good luck on the water, buddy.
I'm from Jamaica and we love barracuda. It's one of the best fish in the ocean. And everywhere you go in the Caribbean they eat it. It's juicy and full of flavor.
Biggest fish I’ve caught so far was a 7ft hammerhead out of a 12ft kayak off of Destin FL. I hooked him half a mile off the beach while Cobia fishing and two hours later he’d drug me 2 miles offshore before I finally got him close enough to touch the leader before cutting him off as close to the hook as I could
I can say, from the stand point of someone who has HAD Bara poisoning. It was two weeks of Hell that I would NEVER hope to experience again. I was lucky. I was neither killed or blinded. But I PRAYED for an end before I got better. I will never chance it again. As much as I loved it before. 😞
Loved the video. We caught 7 or so in a charter in Aruba 2 years ago. Did a TH-cam video of the catch, clean and cook on our channel. Cooked it as fish tacos and blackened like how you did. Both were excellent and you’re right about everyone knocking it.
This reminded me of a deep sea fishing trip I went on with a coworker. My coworker asked me if I wanted to join the boat's pool of the largest fist catch of the day. I said sure and thought nothing of it after that. We were sitting in the gally talking on the way back to sore when we just happen to hear the crew begin comparing the pool catch of the day. So, not thinking we had any chance of winning. Someone pulled a halibut out of a bag and everyone said, "that's it. That's the winner". Until they opened the last bag that happened to be my bag. As soon as the deck hand pulled out my barracuda, the crowd all said "oooh"! at the same time. My barracuda was the largest fish caught that day. I took the pool. Shared it with my coworker. It paid for out total expenses for that day. I took it home and my sister cooked everything I caught. The barracuda was one of the best tasting fish that I caught that day. There was only one other fish that tasted better, but I don't remember the name of that fish. It was orange and had a spinney back that we all were warned not to touch because it causes swelling and a lot of pain if you are stung by it. That orange colored fish was one of the best tasting fish I have ever tasted. I think it is called a sculpin or California scorpionfish. The barracuda wasn't bad either.
The quality of the fish is always determined by how you treat it when you catch it and dispatch it. Bleed out everything and ice bath it immediately. That's the golden rule. Then just don't be a bad chef. Victor, you're a great seafood chef. Appreciate you, brother.🍻🎣👍
Video suggestion for catch cook -flying fish -whiting (gulf kingfish) -lizard fish - striped red mullet (it’s actually a goatfish found in the Mediterranean Sea but maybe you could just do a goatfish species that’s closer to where you live I just know that species I mention is known for its taste)
I think it’s funny what you said about the smell of Cuda when you catch them putting people off. I have eaten them in Mexico and Jamaica. Delicious. You know what absolutely stinks when you catch them and is sought after and expensive world wide? King salmon. They absolutely reek. Nothing about them smells good when you catch them, yet look at the price of them. I think it has more to do with what you are told as a child than the smell. You grow up believing a fish is trash then you find excuses to not try them.

Barracuda out near the LA coast is more pink and so is the Mahi too. Barracuda here have smaller heads, need to be 28 inches to be legal, grow pretty big over here. Mahi are rare in Cali but the passed two years have been phenomenal and their meat is reminiscent of Yellowtail(Hamachi). If you're ever out in Cali again Vik, try catching Mahi, Cuda and Yellowtail to compare the 3

I ate Barracuda in Egypt when SCUBA diving in the Red Sea. The dive boat threw a lure off the back of the boat, caught a big Barra and threw it on the grill.. Wasn't bad!
Can you program a drone to follow a lure’s every movement? Say you’re using a big popper, would a big popper be large enough for the drone to use object recognition so you can get epic top water eats without having to control the drone? Would be wicked to see it capture the footage if it’s hovering and following 10 ft above your popper…
Hey! Great video! I was thinkin, why not try making a bait hoop net with some of Brooke's clear plastic she uses for the lobster nets. Im sure the bait hoops are patented but, you could try making one for you to use on your fishing tripsto see if that improves your bait catch when chumming. Keep up the good work.
Dang man. That looks amazing. You outta open a restaurant. You definitely know what you are doing catching, cleaning, and cooking fish. Nice work Vic. 🤙
I believe the cudas use you (us) as his bird dog, at least in water under ten feet deep... As we swim along they use us like we use flushing bird dogs. We spook something, it takes off after it , .....cuda snack. Cudas that know what fishermen are, are EXTREMELY hard to get them to bite.(at least in my experience with dock cudas) They KNOW what hooks are and what they look like. They will surgically snip a bait all around the hook, but never take the hook if they see it. I had to bury the hook in the bait before it would even THINK about hittin it. It KNEW I was there, it could see me and KNEW what I was up to. I think they are REALLY smart fish.
Good job as always Vic, greetings from Nettles Island! Starting to catch some Pomps near the inlet (inside), I'm sure you already have them. Best wishes to you and your bride!
We eat Barracuda in the Caribbean all the time, the protein content in that fish is very high. We scale, leave the skin on and fry those bad boys. Just make sure it’s cooked all the way through and you’ll be fine. People sleep on Barracuda all the time.

best tartar sauce i have ever tasted was at the golden union restaurant on poland street in london (they offer several types of fish for their wonderful fish and chips), it was similar to what you made, but had lots of chopped fresh dill in it, hands down, the dill made it special

I’ll be in fort pierce Florida soon and I love fishing and I watch your videos all the time. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what I should target in the surf. I’ve never been to Flo before and I’ll be surf fishing and fishing the Indian river lagoon as well
Thats true , especially with fish , when you cover it up with the same seasoning , it all taste the same. Fry it or bake with a little s &p and lemon butter there is a different taste.
Except Salmon or Striped Bass , there is no amount of seasoning you could put on those species that could make them edible, most cats won't eat salmon , but a starving dog will eat it.

3 types of cuda...from red sea...this one swim on the surface and very stinky...the better one has a distinctive yellow ind rounded tail and smaller eyes...keep it going bro
Down in the keys, we pretty much stop eating them around 10lbs or so. Cudas are fabulous eating fish but don't keep the big girls, 10-12 pounds or smaller and your safe, I would never keep and eat a 20+ Cuda as just to much risk. Smaller cudas are absolutely safe to eat and absolutely fantastic table fare.
It's more the high levels of cadmium and mercury cudas tend to have. Safe to eat but not too often. Same with fresh water fish. Mercury levels tend to be higher in freshwater fish

That hammerhead was insanely powerful. You don't realize how powerful they are until you see them move all that water chasing prey.
Just curious why not use black cast iron when blackening the fish?
We eat Barracuda in the Caribbean all the time, the protein content in that fish is very high. We scale, leave the skin on and fry those bad boys. Just make sure it’s cooked all the way through and you’ll be fine. People sleep on Barracuda all the time.
Man, the seafood you guys catch all the time must be why you folks look so healthy. I am definitely going to take some notes here.
Love the video as usual great content and I know what you mean cuda is awesome my son and I took a charter at Boynton beach last week all we caught was two cuda we kept them and took some to deck 84 for tacos and blackened it was amazing sooooo good the guy who seated us was surprised we even brought it in lol
Just curious… why not scale the cuda first before filleting?
best tartar sauce i have ever tasted was at the golden union restaurant on poland street in london (they offer several types of fish for their wonderful fish and chips), it was similar to what you made, but had lots of chopped fresh dill in it, hands down, the dill made it special
hey., maybe something bit off bottom fin on the way up? looks like my aquarium fish after a battle.
When you say stink like how just really fishy? Or is it a different kind of smell ?
It's a nasty fishy smell, very strong. I think it is something specific to the slime covering them. Once you take the skin off the meat is delicious.
Love the video, happy 2024 you guys are going in strong! Whats your thoughts on zip locking fish after cleaning and freezing in water for freshness if it will be a few weeks?
I’ve seen that on Mahi, it’s a parasite. I’ve seen it on a few other Pelagic’s.
Love barracuda and need to try this recipe!!!
I love watching your videos! Im about to go on a tuna trip myself!
Awesome footage of the Hammerhead guys! 😎👍
I’ll be in fort pierce Florida soon and I love fishing and I watch your videos all the time. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what I should target in the surf. I’ve never been to Flo before and I’ll be surf fishing and fishing the Indian river lagoon as well
Good video! 💪 Sailfish clips were awesome as always.
Man, i love cudas.. we eat em a lot here in Malaysia.. love your videos man.. always makes me hungry for fish..
@@jimmyfumbanks6081 - Salmon is bad??? What kind of salmon are you talking about?
I’m not as uptight I get the humor of the teeth I think it’s hilarious. It goes with the theme of villain of the Sea. lol
Wonderful food, beautiful family 🤍💙
Hi Victor I love your show it is awesome this is Errol the Jamaican sensation
My sister caught a killer sword off of Pompano Beach on The Sweet Emily with a Goggle Eye. I was nailing Mahi Mahi and a Mutton. Awesome times. Shout out Capt Mike and Captain Eddie.

Vik. Where can I score one of those landshark white long sleeve shirts. I want one. Thx!
Bro was trolling that hammerhead shark😂😂😂😂
Another great one, thanks.
Can barracuda be high in mercury?
I need to go fishing so bad!
I just wanna hit some jetties for big sheepshead
Top notch food. Simple and delicious.
I've noticed the Mustad brand on you a lot, and it's funny because even though it's a Norwegian brand, my roommate and I in the Downeast area of the Northeast pronounce it the way an old Downeaster would pronounce Mustard. (Muhstuhd)
the frignge on the mahi what is it. also let me know if you like chef troy crunchy garlic sauce.
I always enjoy your videos 👍
Victor it looks like you can make a mean fish sandwich 🥪 I been watching your videos for 4 years now one thing I got to say your cooking is getting. Better and better each time you cook I wish I can have one of those fish 🐟 sandwiches I am hungry good job 😊
I would kill for a life like that. As always wonderful content man! Looked absolutely delicious!!
3 types of cuda...from red sea...this one swim on the surface and very stinky...the better one has a distinctive yellow ind rounded tail and smaller eyes...keep it going bro
Wow..good😊😍
He had a lucky day. I personally enjoy conventional reels for this kind of fishing. I like the way the fight feels.
What boat are you running?
Great job guys cool release
Great Chef as always !!!
Can you pls tell me are you using daiwa bg mq 8000
It's more the high levels of cadmium and mercury cudas tend to have. Safe to eat but not too often. Same with fresh water fish. Mercury levels tend to be higher in freshwater fish
