Ponyo is too cute! His name definitely suits him - he's such a little ham ;) A tiger salamander is at the top of my pet list - I would love to have one! Hopefully some time this year :)

Ponyo is a beast! I had a tiger salamander years ago and he was an awesome pet. You're right though, they really only have one concern in life: getting more food!
They fall into window wells out here in Colorado. Love em!
I have a few wild tiger salamanders running around my garden, and I'm looking into trying to form a better habitat for them here in New Mexico. I'm adding a ton of mulch for more moisture and easier burrowing (as well as attracting a ton of insects), as well as currently in the works of planning out a pond with a ramp for amphibians to enter and spawn :D

My tiger salamander learned to watch for me to bring him food after only a couple of days and now whenever I walk by he is there looking at me.

Funny, we found one out in the wild in Colorado. Super chill little guy. Only spent a little time with her, but we'll worth the experience. Never seen a salamander so big before
Awesome yellow he is a great color and for breeders, their are only 1 or 2 people in the United States that have actually been able to breed barred tiger salamanders. Most of them sold are wild caught. Just an FYI

Lexie Roman That is so hard. I’d probably have to go with crested geckos because it’s what I had first and I love how they can climb up walls and eat Pangea! Leopard geckos seem a little more personable though

What do you use as substrate for Ponyo? What substrate do you recommend for ball pythons?

As for ball pythons it seems like a combination of eco earth and forest floor works best for them!

I’m considering a mixed community of toads, salamanders, and maybe tree frogs from the eastern USA. Do you think that common toads would get along with a tiger salamander? And possibly a large tree frog? My friends tell me to get a bearded dragon, but I’ve enjoyed watching toads and salamanders when I was a child and feel more comfortable with them. Plus they are disappearing from their habitat. I can’t remember the last time I saw a toad outside. I have a 43 gal National Geographic tank. I like the smooth sided toads and considered getting 2 of them and maybe something else that could live with them. Please let me know what you think. You evidently own a lot of amphibians and have experience raising them.

J Bird Honestly, I have no idea and have never tried something like this. So I’m not the person to ask. I’m always very cautious and avioid cohabbing animals just to be safe.

Mormon is not a name of a religion it's the name of species of salamander croaks moorrrmon in the wild grow about 10 long and transform into their intended victims form ~ man.
