My easterns thrived with a flooded gravel bed , pool side and a few hides, and some moss under hides. No worries about any kind of organic substrate to dirty everything up. Never tried to burrow. Stayed under hides and came up to me when I approached there home. Next will have a bulkhead, canister filter and flow threw ramp. It was very easy to keep clean. Spot cleaned and used submersible turtle pump , slash filter. All this in a 40 breed tank. Kept 2 adult males in it.

I found 9:33 really sweet like she’s just a little freaked out about the new space and handling, so runs face first into her water and you as mama bear just instantly grabbed her and pulled her back to a safe position. Like, great reflexes and a long old pause to make sure she was ok. It was just really nice to watch the love radiate idk maybe It’s just me 😂

When I was making my bioactive substrate, I had to pick through chunks of plastic in my bag of topsoil. I also have soil mites instead of springtails because I didn't want to pay for an incredibly huge culture of springtails when I only needed probably a 4oz culture. I've been told that the only mites that should cause an alarm are snake mites. Those things are no joke!
My favorite way to make a humid enclosure bioactive is to introduce dairy cow isopods. They breed very fast, are attractive, get a decent size, and are a great cleanup crew and a secondary food source.

I disagree. Moss is not needed to maintain humidity, and I’ve read on Caudata.org that it’s not recommended. But everyone keeps their animals differently and that’s okay

I don’t believe so because paludariums have larger water features. Tiger salamanders like to burrow in the ground, they’re not keen on swimming. They’ll uproot your plants, too

I found a tiger salamander in my window well this morning. He’s my new best friend, I am going to keep him as my pet.

Just a heads up some people experience less personable Tiger salamanders and some stay buried in the soil 90% of the time

Tiger salamanders are lunged salamanders and they breath thru there nose/mouth they don’t breath thru there skin
