    I just wanted to add that they actually live a lot longer than that in captivity! In the wild they’ve been seen to live 15 years and in captivity it’s actually 20-25 or possibly even more! Which makes me so happy because I always tell ppl that my tiger salamander Ernie is my soul mate haha so excited to have him with me until I’m like 50! 😆

    This is PERFECT! It's just the video i needed right now. I promised my husband I wouldn't get any more REPTILES this year. I know he cant say no to that derpy worm with legs ❤ Very inspiring, i will be deep diving into research and talking to all my local exotic animal sanctuaries to make sure there isn't one that needs a home before trying to source one 😊

    I just met one while walking in my local park in Cheyenne WY. I thought it was an escaped gecko at first. Neat little critter, it waddled off into the grass and camouflaged VERY well in the grass at 10pm (even with park trail lights).

    I could have sworn there was a little black shadow creature behind you peeking out and moving his tiny black hand and makings gestures. Then I realized it was your reflection on the tank behind you. Oh, and great video on your experience with a Tiger Salamander too. Very helpful.

    Pros, a low fuss, non aggressive, abstract, and often muddy amphibian that is a really nice size. Such awesome little critters for sure. Your barred tiger salamander is a pretty normal size at 12-14 inches in length. They are huge in captivity because they are well fed and have better access to a water source such as a water dish. Cons, they should be handled with care and only scooped up sometimes, clean hands is a must but overall they are durable amphibians. They can also bite your finger thinking it is food but luckily they don't hurt very much.

    Spot on. My tiger salamander will just sit there and watch you. Every time I open up his container he comes rushing out and will clime out for food. Kinda insane. Can you imagine if these guys were like the size of a bearded dragon. They would be little monsters lol. I mean they already are 😂

    It definitely depends on the tiger salamander. We keep our TS in a 40 gal and he utilizes the whole thing. He's one of my most active animals. Make sure to put around 4 to 5 inches of substrate because they like to tunnel. He also is VERY food aggressive! He bites me all the time and it doesn't hurt at all. 😅

    3:40 I currently have to handle my baby every day . My cat fell into the tank and dragged him out he sustained some pretty good injuries so I have to give them antibiotics for a week. Spent an hour last night and he’s possibly going to be really high maintenance if he sustained brain damage which were 60% sure he did 🥺

    For me after having some it's just-
    Pro- Beautiful and pretty easy to keep animal you can build a visually pleasing enclosure for.
    Con- You almost never see that animal. You functionally have a very pretty glass box in which feeders disappear.

    • @WisdomCalls
      @WisdomCalls ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is how it is with my blue Hawaiian day gecko and all my mourning geckos. I feed a pretty enclosure every other day and never see anything unless I turn lights on at night or sneak a peak during a very quiet moment at the house. Not very rewarding pets to never get to see them. It’s how I imaging keeping a sand boa would be

    Hi, so I'm adopting a Fire Salamander soon. I'm getting the enclosure ready now. I'm debating a full glass aquarium or a 2 door enclosure like you salamander is in. Are you able to keep the humility in that 2 door enclosure you have your baby in?

    I feel lowkey discouraged with mine. I’ve had him for about a year and a half and he WILL NOT come out to eat on his own. 😭 I have to dig him up every time to make him eat. But He always seems very interested when I offer him food and he SCARFS it down. But he never comes up on his own. 😭😤 Maybe one day? Maybe I need a front opening/closing enclosure? I have no idea.
    I just envy all the other owners that have good eaters. I feel like a bad mom or like I’m doing something wrong with him. 😭

      @reptiliangarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
