      Populism is just a type of reaction expected when you consider type of the situation we are in, and total lack of alternatives or solutions that have been offered to us. Whoever is surprised by populism, and pretends to follow politics or so, is dishonest shill and part of the problem: legacy media/mainstream media, social network bots and others. To be honest, I welcome it, simply because it attest, at least, some kind of pulse present among people in this capitalist, corporate, deterritorialized hellscape that we are living in.
      Every factor that caused populism was present at the time of the premiere of CoM: Invasion of Iraq or USA interventionism i.e. destruction of the Arab world and creation of refugees, incoming global-market crash in the making and web 2.0, switch of Left from class struggle to petty moralism of today. Let us not be hypocritical.

    Children of Men has one of the most stirring and memorable lines (for me, anyway) in cinema - Theo asks Nigel what keeps him going, and he responds "I just don't think about it."

    • @yousernameish
      @yousernameish 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      thats it? seriously! you find that one of the most stirring lines youve heard.... how many films have you seen?

      @@yousernameish Based on your other comments on this video, it seems like you don’t like the director because he’s a “closed minded propagandist”, which has nothing to do with the film. You’ll forgive me if I don’t dignify your ignorance with a response.

    • @yousernameish

      @@OurFantasyLife you already HAVE responded (duh), i dont care about the director, but his film (in turn) has nothing to do with the book he appropriated the plotline from... thats not a creative endeavour, its a perversion of an original work. My description of him is pretty much a summation of his OWN description of his method. He sledgehammered racial and immigration politics into a plotline to suit HIS AGENDA! he says that right there in his interview. You dont like me calling him out because his agenda concurs with your own... bbut mindlessly hammering your politics into every artform you can get your hands on is the very essence of a propogandist and this movie is a twisted corpse of the original book.

      @@yousernameish What you describe as "hammering politics into every artform" is essentially what many artists do all the time. It's not inherently wrong or un-creative to reinterpret an original story or format to address what each artist sees as a current issue - you just don't have to agree with them.
      You can see many examples: The Dark Knight Trilogy explores Gotham's reaction to organized terror, His Dark Materials tackles broader authoritarian elements as opposed to Catholicism in the original books, the Metal Gear series imbue the stealth action genre with themes questioning mass nuclear armament and foolish imperial power gains, and let's not forget how the Bioshock series carries many elements from System Shock while addressing American Exceptionalism.
      You could say that every one of the creators of these stories have an agenda. That's just how they think the world needs to be addressed.

    • @yousernameish
      @yousernameish 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@solid-parker237 as an "artform" it's no less perverted than nazi propoganda, or soviet era posters. . . . not all art is innocent of evil intent.

      The movie has great reviews, but he's quite resolute inasmuch as he refused to read the book, and also projected his views of immigration into the plotline. He pretty much hi-jacked the story.
