      I can really see, some talentless hack director, who got a bad review for his film from Chan-wook, be like "I bet this guy couldn't make a better film himself"

    How Park fused his love of Western films to Korean sensibility is why he's the Big Dog of modern Korean cinema -- this man just loves movies, plain and simple

    I could listen to him forever; great filmmaker and excellent choices.
    When he mentioned the last one, The Fifth Seal, I immediately lost my breath. It's one of my absolute favorite films of the 70s. The extrapolation from moral dilemma to palpable human cruelty is unsurpassed in that film.

    Yellow Sky is an excellent choice! Such an underrated Western starring Gregory Peck, Richard Widmark, and Anne Baxter. It's a psychological drama that highlights the corruption of greed among Outlaws in an abandoned town in a scorching desert, and the violence that occurs because of it. Chances are, if you like Park Chan-wook's masterpieces, you'll like Yellow Sky as well. I highly recommend it.

      @gurksoppasoppgurka6021 I'm always recommending classic Westerns and other classic genre films on movie channels like Letterboxd, JoBlo, Trailers From Hell, Cinema Cities, and WatchMojo. It's also free here on TH-cam if you want to see it. It has great parallels with The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre which came out the same year. So, no I didn't Google it, I was familiar with it, old movies like that happen to be my specialty, I guess.

      @almeidolas6406 I don't think I'm an A.I. or android, but then again, maybe I'm a Replicant and don't know it, like Ridley Scott's take on Blade Runner. Lol.
      If you think my recommendation sounds robotic, it's because I try to be specific and get a good chunk of info in them. I recommend a lot of films on TH-cam. Apologies if it bothered you or made you question my status as a human or robot.

    So he really loves old Western movies. This explains why his recent movies have been classical: The Handmaiden, Stoker, Decision to Leave. Also, his love for Tati is evident in his movies' black humor and sweeping chase scenes.

    • @al201103
      @al201103 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Even if you're joking, I'm going to step in here and defend your choice. Not Shawshank specifically (though it is a very good film) but whatever your favourites might be. They don't even need to be the BEST films you've seen. I've seen plenty of films better than Ghostbusters, but that doesn't stop it being one of my all time favourites. There should be no snobbery in the enjoyment of art - if it totally does it for you, then that's great.

      Once again it was a joke. Never made fun of anyone. Since Park lists 4 movies not many people have heard about or never brings up, I picked a random popular movie (which is great, never said it wasn't). Even Park hadn't seen them until recently. @@Despair505
