In hindsight, I believe the small USB Cable that came with the SDD is 10Gbps and the longer Area 51 cables are all 5Gbps cables. What's so incredibly frustrating about all cables are the "theoretical" speeds that are impossible to actually achieve in real life. As you can see with my very first speed test, we never even got close to 5Gbps but it required a 10Gbps connection to transfer data at just 3.44Gbps
That is an impressive cable, as the cable gets longer the more resistance, and amperage eventually takes a big hit. You won't get the power needed to power the hd. P=IV and V=IR.
Hey Lee. This might help you. Usb-c is a shape. USB-a is a shape. Thunderbolt is a speed/capability designation. USB 2.0 is a speed and capability designation. So you can have a USB-C 2.0 speed cable. And a USB-C to UsB-c 3.1 thunderbolt speed cable.
Hi - I have a new Mac mini M4 and a A7R5 - I want a cable to transfer data fast from my A7R5 should I use a thunderbolt or a usb, and is there a spec or a lead you would recommend
Longer cables are almost always only have charging in mind, so they have the minimal data rating(480Mbps). If the cables aren’t marked as 5Gbps or 10Gbps, they aren’t capable of said speeds. Also, you already maxed out your SSD speed in the first couple tests, getting a better cable won’t help you.
so true... USB has to be the most unreliable standard ever invented. Sometimes it is the cables, sometimes it is the computer itself, sometimes it is the device or drivers... all just painful
Thunderbolt 3 max cable length is 2m. Only an optical cable could be longer but those don't exist yet. Also of the common USB/HDMI/Displayport etc... cables only LAN is really meant to go long distances. So if you want to go problem-free go ethernet
Yes, cables are crazy. I personally love my label maker and I label every accessory and cable I get. Yes, quality cables are worth it (I hate to say), I love bargains, but.... and the stuff that comes to charge stuff is the worst.
Tether Tools has always sold the booster dongle as an attachment for it's long cables, specially if you are using USB 3 or 3.1 cameras. Very expensive I may add as the tiny dongle cost me around $89 with the power adapter included, although it is a basic $5 - $10 power adapter.

Nice video. ThioJoe recently released a video explaining why USB rated speeds are not achievable because they include the necessary signalling overhead. The entire USB situation is ridiculous.
Tethertools has these type of cables for a long time. Although they are in parts of 15feet (4,6m) each. Also not cheap (about $50-60 each part), but very reliable.
You got the units wrong. Windows explorer shows speed in MB/s, Megabytes per seconds, while 5 gbps is in Gigabits per seconds. Since 1 byte = 8 bits, you have that 430 MB/s = 3440 Mbps = 3.44 gbps Another assumption is that 1000 megabytes = 1 gigabyte. There's a lot of confusions with that because in reality 1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte. So some will say 1000 = 1 and others 1024 = 1. They invented a new term to differentiate the two, but it's still commonly mixed up.
Great information! I'm trying to find a 10' USB-C to USB A cable to power my GoPro Hero 10.... So far nothing, just charging / data transfer cables that doesn't deliver enough power to operate it. I need the length due to mounting my GoPro outside my truck. I have an original GoPro 4.5 power cable that came with their back door kit which works great with my power bank but...... not long enough. Thanks again, appreciate the info. Great job!! 👍
Actually, at least from my view, it appeared the same speeds were achieved when not plugging in the power booster connections unless I misread something.
I have had trouble with the supplied USB-C cable from SanDisk. It seems to have a bad connection and will show my drive as disconnected from time to time. Now I just use the cable that came with my iPad pro and it works more consistently but I have not checked the transfer rates.
I sold computer peripherals and lots and lots of various cables. Rule of thumb with USB - anything over 15 feet is garbage. The cable will always defer to the LOWEST capability if there are adapters or different ends on either sides. If your distance is over 15 ft, move the machines or find another way other than usb to connect.
AJA System Test or Blackmagic Disk Speed Test both work really well and are both free on Mac and PC. Looks like in the video he was just using the regular copy function in Windows 10.
I have a radical idea: how about using a FRIGGING FIBER-OPTIC CABLE??? You know, no more thick wires whose reliability degrades, no more CPUs inside the connector that may or may not be as advertised... Light communication, what a novel idea...
I guess that you don’t have experience using this kind of cables... they are designed to be used with different digital cameras to transfer data directly from the camera to a computer, not to transfer files to a hard drive...

The read/write speed of your disks might be the problem :) 3.3 Gbps sounds like a standard Internal M.2 / PCI-E SSD speed.
@@thomasatterberg210 Nah, sounds more like SATA SSD speeds.
Sorry for the double video upload. I had to remove something from the last upload.
You mean the ad? 😜
. . I thought this was a CoronaVirus-info channel! . . ..
Hhahahaha :) Good one

2:46 - that's the 3.0 version of type B, not 2.0
yeah, I have never seen a USB 2 drive with that connection, only USB 3 drives.
USB 3 micro b

“For certain types of photographs and videographers it might be worth it”. Yes professionals.
Not surprised at all that a tether cable and a repeater look foreign to him. As clever as he is, this channel isn’t for working professionals
best usb c cable video!

Bluetooth still beats USB for horrible standards imo

Oculus Link cable has optic

IQwire is 33 feet long in one cable with no dongles or adapters
Need to get sec involved.

Tether tools cables are super unreliable. I switched away from them years ago and never looked back. (full time digital tech here)
George Brooks TONS of commercial photogs use them, and I've never had a problem with mine. But it would be nice to have a longer cable.
@@longliveclassicmusic IQwire tether cable all the way for one cable solution (33 feet long)
when transfering a file from my phone to the computer it doesnt show the actual speed. how would i get this info?
Please enlighten me: How does 430 mbps translate to 3.44 gbps?

And people question why cameras such as 1dx mk III support gigabit Ethernet.
So much easier and reliable.
Do these work with Patricks Shorts?
Sometimes boosters on cables are directional.
for video signals, yes, but not for Bidirectional USB.

USB long? Nah I prefer the huge rusty blade or is it a machete? You see where this is going? 👽
Can you try the cables on a USB Type C Hub with HDMI or USB plugged in??
"unless it's USB-C" -collective sigh

I think I saw that one of the red cables have power slots on each end and you connected one power supply only...
cables are a real nightmare. a legal change should make them colour coded for the end user.
Please make a Video on what laptop you are going to buy which you mentioned in the previous video ❤️

Could you power with portable power banks? I should not take too much energy.
Yes you can use any 5v USB power source, including power banks.
400gb you just cancel before it's done is cheating 🤣
Lmao he looks sad as fuck in the thunbnail
Were you testing these cables coiled up?
The Anker is still the only do all well cable.
I was mirroring iPad to tv...same thing.
Take 2? Oh well
Talk about long USB cables.
I have better solution for that photographer person
Use ethernet cable
