Yes I had one age spot on my forehead removed with cryotherapy by a board certified dermatologist and it left a white indented scar. About 10 years later my GP wanted to use cryotherapy to remove another one off my face. I showed him the scar on my forehead and he said what Dr Dray said and promised it wouldn't happen with him. I told him I would let him take one off my arm to see if I could trust him. I got a white indented scar again. Ladies, whoever does this has to have a super fine touch and it doesn't matter if they are a dermatologist. I am fair. No health problems. This scar on my forehead pisses me off every time i look at it because it's way worse than the age spot. Be careful!!

I’ve had cryotherapy a few times for the hyperpigmentation mostly on my upper cheeks, and had great experiences. No white spots. And for me, a white spot is way better than a brown spot. I’m Asian with light skin tone. Currently suffering from the worst melasma I’ve ever had after having my 3rd and final baby. About to have my 4th treatment of the PiQo4 laser and so disappointed in the results. Had better results with cryotherapy than this laser that costs me $500. 😢

I had a skin check at my Dermatologist the first week of April. I had a place on my shoulder removed but thankfully the pathology report was benign. The Doctor was very happy with the condition of my skin. I'm 65 with no age spots. I do wear a good moisturizing sunscreen daily.

I took some of those teeth whitening strips that contain hydrogen peroxide, cut out tiny squares, licked them, and applied them to the facial age spots. I repeated this until the age spots were completely gone. So it only cost me pennies. I also had Psoriasis on my right arm that had been there for decades. I figured out a way to get rid of that as well. I also had a wart on my upper eye lid on my right eye lid. It took two years, but that too is now completely gone. That required a combination of alternating between applying to it hand sterilizer, that of course contains alcoholic, and carefully applying clear nail polish. Warts are some what a perforated skin, and thus they absorbed the nail polish and thus allow the nail polish to kill the wart. That final day when I finally was able to just peel the dead wart off, was a very happy day.

Sunscreen is definitely essential. Years ago I had what I thought was an age spot on the inside of my lower leg. I kept an eye on it for years. On a Dr Appt he said it appeared to be getting darker and it had tiny red spots in it. Excision revealed a stage 1 melanoma. It was never raised or really looked like a melanoma. So now I always tell people that if in doubt, check it out. It’s not always going to look like the pics you see on posters.

Thank you for this video! I have something on one of my temples. It started off very tiny like an age spot. Eventually it went to being a type of keratosis. I’ve had it biopsied. But nobody I ever saw mentioned what I could do to get rid of it. I guess they wait for me to ask. Also, I just learned about hydroquinone from you a few weeks ago. I never even heard of it before. For years I would get a cystic pimple once in a while and I would always be left with dark spots or hyperpigmentation and never was told what to do with it. I have learned an immense amount from you in the past year alone. Thank you so much again!! It seems like most doctors I go to anymore do the bare minimum. I’m going for a consultation to get picosure laser done on the scarring that is leftover. For about 20 years I’ve been trying to see what is out there, and so far most seem to be a waste of time and money for me, I’m hoping picosure is the one.

I personally have not had permanent results from Fraxel IPL or even V Beam. I did some cryotherapy on two really bad spots but went too far and now have white spots instead. I don’t see the point of hydroquinone. I used it for three months and the spots faded but never really went away. First day of summer they came right back. SO difficult to keep sunscreen on your hands. I wonder why some of us seem to get them so badly? I have always been diligent with sun protection U.K. my more careless friends may have more wrinkles but they are sunspot free.

I've got a lot of sun spots - I live in Queensland, Australia and we boast one of the highest number of skin cancers in the world - I know age spots aren't cancers but the fact shows that sun damage to the skin is a fairly normal occurrence here.
I went to a dermatologist for help with the age spots, I was 63 at the time, and his treatment option was laser. It HURT and while my spots faded, they started to return in 6 weeks; yes, I was lathering SPF50 and wearing a hat.
I will request cryotherapy; I thought it must be considered old fashioned.
Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it.

Thank you! I’m a light skinned mixed race AA in my late 60s and am struggling from years of sunbathing. I began to use sunscreen faithfully in my late 40s but so much damage had already been done - many summers spent in the Greek islands. My older brother had skin cancer so I must be very careful. Have bad sun spots on my right hand - of course the hand I drive with. Thanks for the tip about driving gloves. I have sun spots that look like freckles on my legs now and wonder if there is anything to be done about getting them to fade. Thanks again, though I’m technically skin of color, you have put me on the road to having great skin into my 70s!
Also my long time Italian hair stylist told me recently that hats damage the scalp so to be careful about wearing even wide brim hats. Any truth to that?

Dr. Dray Thank you for all that you do and share with everyone. Also I love how conscious you are about water running etc. You should remind people to recycle. I feel like you would help people to also be mindful about recycling, since you also remind them the importance of sunblock.

Summers are the worst for me, I get lots of spots, makes me look like I have freckles. They fade on their own as soon as Summer is gone. I have been getting few spots that don't go and they are from the age. Retinol has done nothing. I'm considering chemical peeling with with professional since I've seen amazing results.
    Thanks for the information.

I have had spots taken off by Derm with the freezing method. Told the Derm if it makes it look worse don't use it. Well now instead of a light brown color it is a more noticeable pure white circle type on my shoulder. Looks more unnatural now. The Derm did previous spots , and it turned out OK. I think she went to deep this time. So be careful.

I know a guy who had a cool looking Robert Denero mole on his face next to his nose. After a while it started bleeding when he washed his face. It annoyed him so he googled how to get rid of moles. He bought some undiluted chemical peel and used it on his bleeding mole. It went away for a while, then came back. He would burn it off over and over. He finally went to a Doc and found out it was skin cancer. No one at the Dr.’s office thought that what he was doing was a good idea. He ended up having surgery to get the mole removed. He’s doing better today.

Cryotherapy vs laser for sun spot on the cheek bone? Which is better? Thanks!

  • @joycej9415

I have seen the dermatologist at least yearly for 40 years. I have had hundreds of the lesions removed with cryotherapy. Some leave a white or light spot and some I can't tell they were there. But when I was about 60 I had a large one on my cheek. He zapped it and then it came back 3 times. Now I have a larger brown spot where it was. I used hydroquinone a few years ago and it faded my freckles doing nothing for the large spot! Is there anything I can do about it. Recent retinol has faded it a bit. I came here wondering if I could use Differin gel to spot treat these dark spots???
You give lots of good info. I wear sunscreen. Gloves when gardening and long sleeves and a Sunday morning brand hat. My Dad is bald and had to have 3 surgeries for skin cancer on the top of his head.
