    • @lettuceb2336
      @lettuceb2336 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No matter who you are, a perfect game is a combination of luck, excellent control, help from the defense, and finally more luck.
      Potentially the closest anyone got to doing it all themselves was Kerry Wood's 20 strikeout game. Even though he took care of 20 of the 27 outs himself (with the help of a good catcher and good scouting) he still needed help with the other 7 outs and could've used a little more luck to get that perfect game instead of the 1-hitter. Nolan Ryan, when on his game, was as dominant as any pitcher has ever been... and out of 7 no-hitters has no perfect games. Randy Johnson, who is arguably better than Ryan, has only 2 no-hitters... one of which is a perfect game. The last one I'll mention is Greg Maddux, who in my opinion is the best pitcher of the last 50 years. With 17 15+ win seasons, 355 wins (more than any modern pitcher, although Clemens was a close 2nd at 354), god-like control, and a propensity for throwing sub 100 pitch complete games, he has exactly zero no hitters.
      The perect game definitely favors the power pitcher, but it still takes a team to get there.

    One of the best breakdowns of a perfect game, highlighted strategy, emotions, and everything about the celebrations was just phenomenal. I would love to see Jomboy go back and do the same for some historic perfect games in the offseason: Wells, Cone, Johnson, Cain, Hernandez, and Halladay for sure. Catfish Hunter's would be cool to see too. Cain had one of the most dominant perfect games ever and will most likely be the only pitcher to score a run in the same game. Johnson is probably one of the most dominant pitchers ever. Wells' and Cone's were during the historically great 90's Yankees. Thank you Jomboy for your unique perception of baseball.

    Man if you were never a catcher then it’s hard to understand, but a catcher is working just as much as the pitcher, framing pitches, keeping the pitcher calm and focused while also worrying about defense.. a catcher is a big deal to a pitcher and a lot of times pitchers work better with certain catchers, I’d honestly say it’s the most important position on the field, and just being one with your pitcher is something you have to learn, and it works so much better when everyone is on the same page, because your also working the umpire to so you get the calls you want, you know give a little grunt to show displeasure in a bad ball, catchers do a lot, and a lot that people don’t realize.

    Seeing this game in person was incredible. The atmosphere was incredible all around! It's crazy how so many people had no idea what was going on and the Yankees fans refused to acknowledge what was happening to not jinx it! I was actually asked by an A's fan sitting in front of me "what happened? I'm not a Yankees fan so I don't know what happened." It was insane to have to explain to him what just happened right in front of his face. As a lifelong Yankees fan this was such an incredible moment that I'll never forget.

    4:16 he most certainly did not want that curveball anywhere near the inside and high. Based on the situation and the positioning of the catcher, he wanted that ball to start in the zone low and away and then dip into the dirt. It was a terrible pitch but he had so masterfully confused the hitter with 4 perfect pitches beforehand that he got away with it. Even the ball had been a perfect pitch because everything had made the hitter absolutely terrified of that low-outside corner, setting up the curveball.

    A masterful breakdown as always. Baseball is a weird, fantastic, confusing game and I love it. Players like Steve Carlton and Nolan Ryan could never get the perfecto, yet players like Charlie Robertson and Dallas Braden could. That isn't shitting on their achievement whatsoever, a perfect game is a jadeite in a pile of coal, and they deserve it all. Gotta also give Domingo Germán a MASSIVE congratulations too. Welcome to forever, buddy. Enjoy it, bask in it, be molded by it.

    Damn, I haven’t played ball since middle and 1st year in high school.. this got me a little nostalgic. I actually found myself smiling big going into the pics. I had 3 times in my playing that where huge. I got the game winning out that saved a shutout. The whole flying through the air with my left arm fully extended.. I never even felt the ground, but I knew I had that ball and it was t going anywhere. Then we had back to back games and I pitched not one but 2 no hitters!!when the coach took the game balls I didn’t know anything about collecting balls from games like that. He did, and he had the team sign them all and gave them to me with the rest of our championship season awards banquet. Man the feeling I felt once the moments was something. All the build up and stress and worry, then it’s gone and your adrenaline has your pulse so high it sounds like a Harley was in my chest revving wide open past my ears. And then all those feelings are taken over by pure happiness. Those where my 2 most awesome events of my childhood. Nothing compared to this MLB moment for this young man.
