Great timing as always. I just started to use the LFOs. I love the fact the designer is built into the OT. So much easier than the Mono. Thanks for the video.
Hi Julien ! A single cycle wave is pretty much exactly what it says in the name. It is a "snapshot" of a waveform, that includes just one cycle of it.So it starts at zero, goes up, down, crosses zero, then down, and up again back to zero.If you loop that very short sound, you get a sustained sound with no clicks, which is why they are so popular with samplers, they allow an infinitely long sound from a tiny wave. You could make them yourself, on the OT or in a DAW, by taking a synth
Hello !Thank you for the comments :)Unfortunately, there is no real direct way to modulate loop start and length. You can however modulate the start point of you sample with the "start" parameter, so if you begin looping at the start of your sample, that will do the job. There have been quite a few people requesting a "granular" machine on the forums.Another way is play with loop end manually, while resampling. Finally, play with the retrig parameter and modulate retrig time and start time together
Thank you :) I appreciate the comments ! Glad you find those inspiring, I have more in the works. Elektron like then too, apparently, although I'm not as pro as Hector :) Cheers.
I like the way that the image goes off kilter at 8.32 as you are explaining how to get such off kilter beats :) Got any of these beats chains you care to share with us all?
Cool stuff. New to the octa and wondering a couple of things? 1. How do you place trigless trigs? 2. How do you create new banks? I can create a new pattern but the octa wont seem to let me create a new bank,
You have to make sure that the beginning and the end are at zero crossing points. Also, some of your own creations might click simply because of the wave itself. A good exercise would be to try your hand at making them from simple waveforms like a sine or a triangle, see if that works. You might then be more able to distinguish what is making yours click :) Cheers!
@SecretMusicUK what about a making a beat video like the mpc ones on here taking the viewer through your personal process in terms of making a beat on the octa? Thnx for making these videos james
...a synth sound you like, isolating one cycle of it, and saving it. Or you can download packs of those online, the Adventure Kid ones are great, and you get hundreds of them. Remember though, that it will end up being a static sound, as it's repeatedly looping a very small part of it. But in the OT you can then shape it with enveloppes and LFO's to give it movement. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more explanations :) Cheers !
@glaidaman I intend to go through the whole manual indeed. Probably not in the manual order, however. Finishing LFO's next, then I'm not quite sure. I want to get into the MIDI side of things, but I think I should finish the sampling side first ! Any particular requests ?
@aikighost 1-Place trigless trigs by holding function while putting a trig down. Holding function and pressing on a key that ALREADY has a trig will turn that trig into a 1 shot trig. 2-not sure exactly what you mean, you can navigate through banks by hitting the Bank button and a trig. If you mean a Part, you can assign a part to a new pattern by switching to your pattern, hitting function+part, and picking a new part. That will give you 8 free sample slots
Hey Secret Music....May I put a request in on these how too videos....can you do one on workflow and in particular "Parts" as they frazzle my fejazzle! Thanks
@punarnee cool suggestion :) I'll get to that at some point, althought my creative process really depends on which artist I'm working with at the time !
hi! great tutorials, thank you! i`ve one question. how an i modulate the loop length, loop start point, and so on? in ableton live`s sampler i can modulate this stuff with an Amp or LFO. great effects!! :) thanks
@punarnee yes it seems like Parts are really confusing some users. Doing tutorials on these subjects is a bit more difficult, as a lot if it has to do with personal preference, what one is trying to achieve, and how they like to work, but I'm up for a challenge :) thx for watching !
@aikighost mm, did you try hitting "play" after you switch pattern/bank? i know it's obvious but it's the only thing I can think of. Let me know how that goes :)
@SecretMusicUK RE "not sure exactly what you mean, you can navigate through banks by hitting the Bank button and a trig." My octa wont let me go to bank B, C, D etc for some reason. They are empty and if I try selecting them (select bank followed by select pattern message appears as expected) I just get left on bank A in the same pattern. I can create new patterns in bank A and select them without any problems however. I wonder if there is a problem with my octa?
@aikighost i do chains with anything and everything :) I'll see what I can come up with, lots of it is sounds from the artists I work with, from guitar hits, trumpet hits, vox, percussion, etc..the more diversified your chain is, the more wild the results can get !
5:02 no shit!! that's ridiculous, you can get that LFO pumping in a pattern and put it on whatever else you want, offset it by a half bar or a couple notes...this this is like ableton live all in one box
excuse me , I have a question : what do you exactly call " a single cycle wave" ? We can see on your video that the lenght of such wave is 0.00s. What is it exactly ? how do you create such of these wave ? Do you have creatd it with the Octatrack ? thanks.
10 years later, I'm watching all your Octatrack Tip Videos. Thanks !
Thank you for watching !
Top vid. Super informative. Glad it still exists.👏
Thank you !
Thanks for all octatrack tutorials!! you are the Best!
Finally for me your video revealed the secret of the T1,T2 sources and how to assign the design LFO.
Greetings ! I'm glad I could help :) Enjoy !
Please keep posting more tutorials! Your videos inspire me to work with my Octa more. Thank you!
Great timing as always. I just started to use the LFOs. I love the fact the designer is built into the OT. So much easier than the Mono. Thanks for the video.
thank you for the insightful and deep tutorials!

Many many thanx. Excellent once again!

Me aslo wants more videos about octatrack ! I ve seen many on the web and I can tell you that yours are the best !!
Please could you put some more ?
Thank you :) I appreciate the comments ! Glad you find those inspiring, I have more in the works. Elektron like then too, apparently, although I'm not as pro as Hector :) Cheers.

Hi, and thank you for the kind words :)
I'll be putting up a new tutorial soon, I have been busy with other projects !
Stay tuned :)
Cheers !
Great videos, keep up the good work! You actually make this machine sing:)
Thank you for watching !
awesome video, very usefull!

4:34 - awesome - I did not know about that function
It's quite deep, isn't it ? :)

@Mondriantestpattern cool ! LFO's are fun :)
@thedatamute thx :) MIDI is coming, locking arp parameters is where it's at :) Cannot wait to do those!

@aikighost yes I bumped my cable by mistake..was going to start the whole thing again, but figured it was not too bad. a bit more authentic, yes ;)
very thanxxx!

@TechnoMachinez You're welcome. Thx for watching :)
ok thanks for your answer.
What happen is whan i try to create such of waves in the OT, I have a click sound ! how do you avoid it ?
I use an LFO on the BASE filter to make the ducking effect, is there any benefit to using volume instead?
5:02 no shit!! that's ridiculous, you can get that LFO pumping in a pattern and put it on whatever else you want, offset it by a half bar or a couple notes...this this is like ableton live all in one box

Next one coming up soon :)
is this only possible for the static ? is it possible to apply while on the Thru machine while sequencing a synth?
1:27 for a while it totally sounds like HighRoller by The Crystal Method !
Haha i see what you mean :) it was unintentional !
Super!
@SecretMusicUK I set up anew project on my CF card and it works fine in that so I guess its just a glitch in that particular project. How annoying :)
