    Huge thank you for this video. I was looking a long time for it. That is why I've actually bought Octatrack instead of Digitakt. To play the whole set without reloading anything.

    Great video and well explained. I had been struggling with this for ages !
    A bit of playing around with the levels has this running perfecto !

    I've been using track button + yes to arm the record track and then track button + no to disarm it. This helps me avoid having to go into the pattern mode and take the trig out from the recording lane. Its a bit faster and intuitive.

    pretty slick - I didn't know about holding the rec trig and selecting the input in the edit menu

    This is a pretty cool trick but I realized you forgot to talk about one of the menu.
    The SRC3 recording (MIDI button) can be set to sample different tracks. In your demo I assume it's set to T8, which is the master. However if you don't use T8 as the master and you set it to sample the MAIN, it will sample post that +63 gain on the main out.

    Thanks for making the video, got everything working and am happy with the results. One thing, Because of the curve of the fade, or really the lack of it, when the fader is in the middle both a and b are not at full volume. I'd like for the volume of each scene to only decrease once it is passed the halfway point. Is there a way to achieve this or is a crossfade curve adjust just a feature that doesn't exist on the octa? Thanks

    Just to clarify the point about selecting inputs in recording trig setup.
    You say it's "slightly confusing" because selecting Input AB and the internal sounds (MIDI button) causes the sounds to double up.
    This is mostly likely because you have track 8 as a "Master Track" and you have "Dir" up for input AB in the mixer.
    If you didn't have the master activated, I don't think you'd have this issue.

    So can't you assign any sample in the track 1 with this trick ?
    I only use the octatrack so i always use the 8 tracks in order to have the more sound as possible. Can i do this trick ?

    hi tarekith thanks for making this videos, they are very useful. I'm having some problems with the manual sampling.
    i'm making all the procedure exactly how u explain it. but i can't record anything in my buffer .
    In the record Set Up i selected the Source T8 . My machinedrum and A4 are connected to de AB And CD thats perfect. Now the Length is set in 64, and my TRIG in ONE. LOOP is ON. Thats ok?
    In the other screen i have FIN 0 FOUT 0 AB 0 QREC OFF QPLC OFF CD 0 .
    I have set up the triggers like u say

    @aikighost I also found the sampling frustrating at first, but it's a really simple and rewarding process once you grasp it fully. One aspect of it that I still have an issue with however, is lack of relatively infinite recording length (as opposed to being restricted to 32 steps). Other than that, it's the best bit of kit I own!
    While we're here, whats the ESX like? Every video I've seen seems a bit cheesey - can anything edgier be done on these machines? They look great but I'm not convinced.

  • @EstudioSonorama

    First, congrats on your octatrack videos ! Now, At min 7, you explain that the sample trig should be disabled when the loops is already sampled. Isn't it better to place a "ONE SHOT sample trig" rather than the regular sample trig ?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can use one shot triggers, sure. The key then is to make sure you re-arm them before you need them, but otherwise it's certainly another way of doing it.

  • @VYD239
    @VYD239 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @aikighost It is for this, as it is a workaround for something and it's a more complex proceedure to set up. I agree, it's not the most straightforward process at first, even for simple sampling, but once you get the hang of it it's fine. Also, the OT's new OS now has 'On- Shot recorder trigs', so overwriting your recorded loop is now nothing to worry about. You set the trig to record one cycle only and it will only re-record if you arm the track again.

    I have the MD and A4 into the Octatrack, trying to sample both but when I go over to SCENE B it doesnt seem to record because when I turn down the A4 to change pattern you can hear it when Im on SCENE B. Any ideas?

  • @dizzy_delon

    I use the crossfader transition and have to problems when the crossfader is in middleposition:
    Rec trig active = in the middle position I get a volume increase
    Rec trig not active (previously recorded plays) = in the middle position I get phasing.
    Can I do something to avoid this? I use external equipment and I have already tried to work with delay compensation.
    Thank you

  • @aikighost
    @aikighost 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @VYD239 Worst thing about the esx is the lack of a usb port for easy backup/sample transfer also it only has 1 LFO per sound which might be limiting for some. I do however really like the effects and the interface, I really like how its controls are laid out.
    Overall the octatrack is probably more interesting in terms of feature set, but I find the esx more instant and easier to jam on. I still also have my old korg es1 which is pretty ancient but has a certain something that I still love.

    Anything really not great about them? What would you say is the worst or most limiting aspect aboutt them?
    Sorry for asking all this, I just can't find any in depth info about them and you know what shops are like, patronising etc :)

  • @rustikinc63

    Hey Tarekith, Hope you are well! So, if you do this you can't use the fader for other things, correct? Or is there a way to make this fader use only occur on some setting or condition? Because, otherwise if you use cross fade for this any FX parameters connnected with be activated? or I am missing something.

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      RUSTiK Inc you can have up to 16 different scenes you can assign to the crossfades, and each scene can control multiple parameters. This transition trick only uses two of those scenes, you still have 14 to assign as you will.

    @VYD239 All I know is that when i want to do actual sampling I end up using my esx and es1 more than my octa. Elektron really need to have a decent "simple sampling option".
    One button press to start sampling and one to stop, job done.

    why not make one shot recording trig (green) to prevent repeating?

  • @hanfbrot

    use qrec - plen and qpl - plen in record menu #2
    u just have to press the track button + the input you want to record!

    @jaapaap5 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    damn i have no luck with this gear. the first octa did not start up at all after unboxing. on the second one the audio out didn't work anymore after 3 weeks and now... i got my 3rd octa - and this one is broken too...:-(
    the led of scene A does not light up anymore.

  • @Sakrecoer
    @Sakrecoer 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    i might be out dreaming, but i think you can pick a different type of trigger for record triggers too, one of the trigg type is supposed to only record the first cycle.... i will double check, but i might be back only if i'm wrong :) THanks alot anyways vey instructive! (and sympathic voice)

  • @VYD239

    @aikighost Continued....I ran out of characters......: )
    What I meant was they all seem to be using the built in sounds and it sounds a bit 'Preset-ish'. I'd love to see it doing something more gritty and experiemental.

      No, those are from my own studio productions.

    • @2628ale
      @2628ale 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tarekith let me rephrase that, are you sampling the melody from the machine drum with the octatrack? or are you sampling it from the internal octatrack sounds?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whew, that was awhile ago so I might be forgetting it, but pretty sure most of the initial loops were made in Live, and then sort of remixed after transferring them to the OT.

    let me show you a little trick for the work flow :
    function + record c - d button for record menu #2
    set qrec to plen and qpl to plen
    now you dont have to set record trigger bcuz u just have to press the track button + the input record - knob for the input you want to record

    It is a very deep machine guys i recommend to go slowly at first, coockoo videos are cool for beginners, this are advanced technique what ¨tarekith¨ is teaching. The Octatrak is the best instrument invented to the date of those days, but it is a very deep machine. And you can´t pretend to play it in a few months at least, it needs 6 month of practice and to watch lot of tutorials like this to begin to have a nice workflow with it, and at least year to really master it as well lot of hours practicing, it is not a simple machine it is an instrument. Thanks man!! but each one has is own limit, some go faster and others slower, anyway keep in mind it is an instrument, your in sin when you try to compare with a soft sampler ;-)

    I cannot understand why a simple crossfade feature is not native to the Octatrack when it's sold as a live performance sampler and controller with a DJ style crossfader as a focal point . Track crossfading should be built into the scene feature somehow--load current song into scene 1 and crossfade to scene 2 next track. I guess that'd be too simple for this device ... it's a shame that there needs to be a hack to get a fundamental feature to work. Uggg.

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can easily do that just by assigning xvol to each side of the crossfader. This example is just more complicated because you're also setting up a recorder to constantly sample the output. Simple xfader is simple to set up.

    • @Robbie-mo2vt
      @Robbie-mo2vt 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      tarekith I don't think he meant from track to track. I think he means like from bank/pattern A1 to B1. But that would take extra tracks.

    • @elissitdesign
      @elissitdesign 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pattern 1 > Pattern 2 crossfade. DJ Style.
