I'm one of the first buyers of the 2023 CX50 here in Vancouver, Canada, and honestly fell in love with the drive and design. I could never find any in the class that is as fun to drive as the CX-50. I'm seriously thinking of trading in my GT Turbo for the Hybrid, but my concern is that since it's using the Rav 4's hybrid system, will the drive feel the same as the current CX-50? What do you expect, Jonathan?
Great info! It's about time we finally get the CX-50 Hybrid. The lease on my 2021 CX-5 is up at the end of January, so perfect timing! However, the addition of Bose audio and ventilated seats to the Meridian Edition for 2025 makes my decision harder. I always balked at the lack of Bose on the Meridian, especially at that price point. Ventilated seats are icing on the cake. Decisions, decisions...

Thank you for the update! My lease on my 2023 CX-50 Preferred Plus comes up at the end of November 2025. First, I had been thinking about leasing a 2026 CX-50 Select. More recently I have thought about buying the CX-50 Select because Mazda quality and reliability, and once paid off I don't have to continue to make car payments for a while (only when I finally decide to replace it). Then I heard about the hybrid CX-50. At first I was "meh" about it, but if I were to buy it instead of leasing it I would have more years for the better fuel economy to pay for the higher price, and after that it's all savings. Since it's the Toyota hybrid system I have no worries about quality (my daughter drives a 2015 Prius C which has been very good). Meanwhile, I came across another TH-cam video (GearheadDrive) talking about the 2025 CX-5. This one is the next generation model with major exterior differences. While the source didn't confirm I believe that this is for the Asian/Australian/European market. It is also going to have a hybrid model, and like our CX-50 hybrid this new CX-5 will also use the Toyota hybrid system.

Hybrids typically use an engine that runs the Atkinson cycle, which is more fuel efficient. The Mazda 2.5L does not run this cycle, so fuel economy would suffer if it was used instead. I also don't think Mazda's long exhaust header used with the SKYACTIV engines will allow enough room in the engine bay to add the two electric motors, planetary gearset, and electronics used in Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive.
@@jerrystandefer9128any engine can be setup to use Atkinson. The same engines use Otto cycle for non hybrid versions. It's not that complicated with current tech.

My two biggest complaints are. 1) Mazda needs to use a real sunroof. They barely open. Im sure they haven't fixed that issue for the 2025 models. 2) the first turbo model is more than 10k more than the base model is crazy to me. I know there are more features on the turbos, but they could still offer it at least as an option on the 34k model. The cx50 and cx90 came out pretty close to the same time. I want to love the cx50, but it seems all the love went into the look. Then they quit trying
I bought my '24 CX5 this year but would like the hybrid. I'm hesitant about the CVT transmission on the hybrid. Also, why doesn't Mazda include a sirius/xm radio on all models? That is my only disappointment in my Carbon edition.
toyota does not use a conventional CVT. I'd wait a year to see how this marriage goes. Also, is the toyota engine both direct and port injection? keeping my 24 CX5 for now.
The new CX- 50 everything from the engine to the transmission to the E all wheels drive the same as my venza hybrid and rav4 hybrid and you name it from toyota and don't worry about ECVT transmission they are excellent transmission
Because this is a DROP-IN SYSTEM from Toyota. All Mazda has to do is their own driving maps for the whole thing. The automatic on the CX70/90 is for their inline six, won't FIT or work with the transverse four. Mazda is almost certainly working on a new 8+ speed automatic for their 4-banger, whether it's this one or the next gen.
Very disappointed that there is no base Select Trim for the new hybrid. Kinda makes the fuel savings meaningless if I'm forced to spend an extra $2k for Preferred options I don't care for like slow wireless phone charging and a slow power liftgate
This thing is literally beat out by a 30k Honda Civic. I know this is based on a Toyota platform and Mazda is late to the game but this is woefully inadequate imo. I love Mazdas but they are falling behind it seems in a lot of spaces.
