Minimalism ironically made me stop keeping off season clothing in storage because there was enough space in my wardrobe to keep everything organized. I just love always being able to see the entirety of my clothing at all times. It's always interesting to see how different each person's journey to minimalism looks. :)
I never put in storage but my dresser drawers were popping at the seams for a long time. Now I’m almost to the point where there’s one level of clothing pieces in each drawer, can see everything, and it’s well organized so I know where my sweaters are compared to my shorts. I have a few pieces on hangers… but my husbands clothing he likes on hangers for the most part so it’s interesting how we prefer to use our space together.
Number 7 was actually really helpful - asking yourself what you want to keep instead of what to get rid of. I used to do it the other way round or rather ask myself A) Does it have a functional purpose? If not then B) Does it have emotional value or "sparks joy" (haha) and if that's a no too then letting it go.
Thanks for these tips! I understand the benefits of storage seasonal clothing elsewhere, but I have downsized my wardrobe so much, that I no longer need to do that. I have all my clothing in one place and it all fits! In the past, I had so much clothes and would store seasonal items...but then I'd get halfway through the season and realize that I had clothing wasting away in a tote in the attic.
If you don't have a lot of clothing you really don't need to pack it up. I am working on that for my own wardrobe, my husband is at that point, only thing not in his wardrobe is skiing gear and his wetsuit.
Minimalism calls for not having so many clothes that you would need to pack them away. I have all my clothes in my bedroom in one dresser and my closet.
Isn't it interesting how our pain comes from attachment and aversion. We just have to get a handle on material things and discern the difference between functionality and form. Our neurosis comes from our status anxiety which a consumer society programmes into us. Our descendants basically wanted quality items that worked and lasted...we however want novelty items that amuse and fade. We have to learn to value people and use things and not value things and use people...and when I say value people that includes ourselves. I believe that minimalism begins with a mindset concerning our relationship with reality and how we intentionally interact with that or chose not to. When you are a true and not struggling minimalist you will know because the greatest gift you will have is to.....Know thy Self. Very interesting video and comments. Thank you
I grew up with very few clothes so as a teenager I didn't have the option of wearing lots of different things. But what I did have was nice. Now I'm trying to get back to that kind of minimalism. Less, but better. No point in wearing ugly clothes. Less is better.
Yes karla , I agree my motto is I dont buy anything unless I love it. I shop long and take my time, if I dont just love it , I dont buy it. That way I have fewer clothes but what I do have I love and enjoy wearing..
When I shop, I try to buy only things I need -- not things I want. Of course, I have to treat myself once in a while. If I buy something new, I look for something to give away.
Temptation bundling. I also listen to podcasts Only when I am decluttering/cleaning! I started this years ago and it totally makes me want to accomplish more!
We have become so proud of our ability to “multitask”. We don’t realize what a detriment to our brain this is. I wish I could say in work interviews that “actually, no I don’t multitask because it’s not healthy”…😵💫
I'm a new subscriber, I really like your channel! However, I have to laugh to myself about putting out of season clothes away. I live in Ireland and we can get all seasons in one day! It can be sweater weather in August!
@@DanielaSimionescu yeah, and we don't really get super hot like parts of the US. 20° Celsius if we're having a 'heatwave'. I'm originally from Philadelphia, so it took me a while to adjust to the weather patterns here.
I think putting out of season clothes away is a great idea, it feels like Christmas when you get to open those tubs when the seasons change. When it gets chilly all you need is a light jacket or a sweater.
Wore a strict uniform throughout school career. No makeup, hair longer than collar needed to be tied back, nails short with no polish. Sometimes miss the simplicity of those years….did not enjoy it as much at the time though,as it was enforced, not by choice
I do my wardrobe in 4 seasons and it's so fun shopping from my own stuff every 3 months. I also wear so many more things now that I have so much less out. All the joy x
Love the tips on listening to podcast while doing some housework. But I know I won't want to wear almost the same style for my work. That because there are enough areas that I stick to the same things e.g My hairstyle never changed, I never do nail polish, never wear sunglasses, do not wear makeup, ..etc. I think I do need my wardrobe to be like a small collection (not too much) and enjoy changing the outfit at times. But I do also enjoy decluttering once awhile. It just feel great after that
Having worked in a restaurants for a long time, the saying "don't go the kitchen empty-handed" comes to mind. Don't walk by a table or stop at a table without picking up something that is used/dirty. I still do this, as you do, when moving about my house. No aimlessly going from story to story without picking up that stuff that needs to be put away. It really is an almost effortless way to keep your space tidy. And, by the way, I love and appreciate your videos and insight. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Your are always very helpful.
Slice of Light, what a wonderful teacher you had at school who gave the students the advice to wear the same outfit for a week and get credit. The peeping bullies around here that yell "boring" at others' shall never go out of fashion style and lifestyle don't even know what they are doing 😅😊.
I rarely get up from one room and move to another without picking something up and putting it in its rightful place; whether it’s a coffee cup, or tissues for the bin, etc. This small thing goes a long way to keeping your home clutter free.

I used to put out of season in storage, now they are together, so i can actualy see how much i actualy own. My goal is to put all the clothing in one closet. I thought about getting rid of half of the winter clothes but then i remember how much time you have to wait for the clothes to fully dry( i let them dry outside on the balcony).
I love the gateway storage - what a fantastic idea! I know my fear of getting rid of something I need (especially since I am really tight financially to be able to replace it) keeps me clinging onto a lot of "maybes". I can make up a "possible" donation bin and put it aside - and if I didn't need it half a year later, then bring the whole box in to a donation center.
This is the first video I've watched on your channel, and I really like your calm, reassuring energy! I love your idea of curating our belongings; it feels very caring and affirming! Many thanks!
Perfect timing! I’ve just done a big seasonal clear/declutter an hour ago. Put on TH-cam, and the time goes so quickly, and the productivity feels amazing!
I love these tips, so very useful. In Australia, we wore school uniforms ( which haven't changed all that much since I was in school a long time ago) and it makes decision-making and keeps the pressure low.
Same, in India too. Less obsession with fashion choices on a regular basis for young people with barely enough focus for the more necessary activities.
My dad was in the navy during Vietnam and Korea. On the ships and submarines they had a very small space to keep their belongings. They could only keep two outfits for shore leave. Quite often if they liked a shirt or a pair of pants they would buy two. One of his mates a lovely, good looking but shell shocked man continued to live this way in civilian life. This was Caloundra in the 80s-90s, a small seaside village north of Brisbane. Everyone in town thought he was dirty because he always had the same outfit on. In reality he was a very clean man who applied naval discipline and washed his clothes everyday. My dad was his only mate, none of the ladies in town wanted anything to do with him. He died alone.
It’s sad that so few people took the time to look behind this man’s “shell-shocked” facade to the lovely person who sacrificed for his country. We should all pay attention to the quiet folks in our daily lives.
In India we have uniform. It now seems such a good thing now Birthday was when we could dress in any outfit and we used to love it. Wish we could do that now in fact will do it.
I got used to #8 when I worked at Starbucks. They used to call it something like never be empty handed when you leave a place. And it’s helped me a lot. If I go out I bring the recycling, or trash, etc. It really is a good point! Now I try to work on grouping tasks. It’s hard for me as I am a bit ADD as if I think of something I need to act on it quickly or else it’s bugging me 😞
Worked at bonefish grill for a couple of years and my front of the house manager called it "full hands in full hands out" and I also apply this to my life in all ways, it has been an invaluable lesson.
I have little clothes, so I keep all my clothes in my closet, always, here in Portugal in sumer sometimes be so cold bc of the wind, I need a thick coat. So I just noticed that having all out is really the most practical. Also since I don't wear unmodest clothes (shorts etc), I don't have those to put away 🥰

Hello 👋 how’re you doing?
I like the idea of looking at what you want to keep, rather than what you want to get rid of!

clothes and my shoes and purses were stuff I just hoarded. It was a nice feeling to donate those items to the goodwill and salvation army.

All throughout my time in school, uniforms were mandatory and non negotiable, I found it so hassle and stress free
Love your channel! I'm new here, and started my minimalist journey about 6 months ago and I have to say I'm loving it!
Hello 👋how’re you doing?
Number one doesn’t work in south Texas. One day it’s winter and the very next day it can feel like summer, so I have to keep all my clothes available
This is a powerhouse of information. A book I read on this was also a wealth of knowledge. "Adapting with Aging" by James Crescent
Truly appreciate this content! Love all of your tips 😘
I love that idea about podcasts with chores ❤
I’m in MN too! It is hard to rotate clothing but I love your tips and channel!
Oh Sooo Soothing Seeing My SlowPacedMinimalPeepsToday🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍
As far as out of season clothes- I just chose to move to the FREE STATE OF FLORIDA- so I only needed one season of clothes and hardly any clothes- just shorts, skorts, sun dresses, bathing suits, sandals and walking shoes- that’s it!!!
Thank you for your video. Hello 👋 from MN ☺️
Wonderful post my dear. I love your calming energy. New subscriber!
Hi 👋how are you doing?
Very good list and your voice is soothing.
Hi 👋 how’re you doing?
As a GenX, in my country we had school uniform. Kids did not have to think about what to wear to school. Like in the scouts - you you make little alterations to your uniform and add a couple of badges, but the purpose of uniform is to create unity instead of competition. It has gone a lot more relaxed since, which is a bit of a shame
Thanks for the video! I enjoy so much. Kisses from Brazil!
Thanks for sharing 🌈
As a minimalist paying for storage should be a "No,no" . The whole point of minimalism is to be able to only have the items you use, in the space you have, to contain everything.
Just layer clothes and have fewer clothes.
She might mean putting them in storage boxes under a bed or garage. Not necessarily a storage unit
i love minimalism. I do not have to be worry about material objects or angry or worry about spending money on things some months later will not earned my attention.
Great tips! As far as coffee... There's a healthier substitute, Dandy Blend. Coffee-like.
As always love your practical tips❤️
Thank you! :)
Helpful video. Thanks. I am increasingly more mindful and wanting to declutter and it’s pretty overwhelming. Just knowing where to start and how.
Thank you
New sub here. Great info. Temptation bundling is a great tip, I’m definitely going to try that.❤ thank you 🙏🏻
Excited about the coffee
Good video 😊
May i know where you got your beautiful gold ring , on your right hand ? And your layered necklaces ? I guess that’s not very minimalist of me , is it ?!🤣
Such a beautiful video ! Thank your for the insights . The picture behind you is very calm and nice . Can you pls share it with us 🙏
I’d love to know where I’d put my seasonal clothes for ‘storage’. They stay in my wardrobe all year.
When you bring something away, do you have another place already set up? This is reason don't move anything since not another place put it. 😒 Thanks Josie 😊
Love this video!
