A two layer tent is a must in my book. Condensation can be just as bad as leaking on some trips. Plus it helps keep you warmer on those chilly nights. I happily will carry a little extra weight for better comfort, sleep, and less stress.

Hi Claire, my wife and I backpacked the Northumberland coastal path using the Lanshan 2. I can confirm it is absolutely superb and once pitched correctly (we used sand pegs), it was rock solid with loads of room for two of us. Had loads of rain and wind the first night the tent brushed it off with impunity.
Overall great value shelter, totally concur with your review

None of it has ever given my soul the peaceful, easy feeling I get from yours. The wildest, most beautiful landscapes, adventures and personal challenges, fears and difficulties soundly put to bed, and describing and appreciating the magic of it all in your calm, soft, lilting voice. It simply doesn’t get any better. Stay safe, stay wild, and carry on. 🥰

Many of the videos I see of other campers have huge tents, many times even have wood burning heating and bring everything but the kitchen sink to make meals. I love how simple you keep it but yet you make look delicious and filling. Maybe lamb will be in my future 🤤.
Also I admire your warm words about Steve and his “beautiful wife”. I have seen his channel several times and how he talked of his beautiful wife. Even though we never saw her we felt like we knew her. My heart too went out to him and his wife.

I have the single-skin version of this and I really like it. One tip I picked up from someone else on youtube is that in strong wind it's best to pitch with one of the doors facing into the wind, rather than end-on like you would think to do. I did this on a windy night on a peak and it was loud but everything held up fine (with delta pegs on the guys). It helps too to drop the pole slightly on the windward side to close the gap.

The new tent looks like a winner. I’ve been having good luck with the Zpacks Free Trio - a roomy three person 982 gram tent with external skeleton that locks the dyneema into a tight shell. Once locked into position it’s bombproof. After a stormy night I just pick it up and give it a shake and all the water flys away. No more soggy wet rain fly for me.

In 1980 ish I had a Vango mk365 mw (for microweight). Sold as a "transverse ridge". About 7'x4' with two huge (we called them porches then) . Two poles and a ridge pole.. Got to Cornwall on the train and found inexplicable left one pole behind . Made an emergency one from most of the ridge pole , and a skewer peg through the flysheet grommet!
Down to earth 4 season fly but velcro fold up flaps for ventilation when dry
    Fabulous tent

  • @dangerpudge1922
    @dangerpudge1922 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for another truly pleasant video. I've heard mixed things about these tents; most notably that they'll sag and stretch when wet which can cause issues. They still have my attention though, and perhaps as they evolve I'll snap one up.
Another thing I really appreciate is your general disposition with your gear. While I'm sure you have a couple of sponsors and that I'm equally sure you like the higher-dollar stuff as much as anyone else, there's a certain theme I've noticed and I find it more than a little endearing: You treat camping much the same as a child might treat sleeping in a couch-fort tent in the living room. You seem to bring that childlike wonder into the wild with you. Lanterns, good food that isn't 'trail specific', an appreciation of a little extra weight for the things that are hallmarks of being in the outdoors to create a total experience. It'd be more fun if we did more of that, I think, rather than consuming ourselves with shaving ounces, hunting for the end-all-be-all bit of gear, or choking down the highest calorie-to-weight freeze dried foodstuffs.
I can see a hundred reviews of the latest $600 tents that weigh a pound or less, and they're all the same sort of thing; a sterile dissection of minutia that simply gets lost in the noise of the outdoor experience. I truly love the way you weave your overall experiences and gear together. Quite frankly, that's something the Dan Beckers of the world could learn.

Hi Claire. Tis Irish Bob here. Enjoyed the review and that you had good results this trip.
The real test for new gear is of course; the weather. Perhaps bring a light DDS tarp if things seem dodgy.
Nice wee visitors from trail cam footage. So glad you fully enjoy and are respectful of nature.
Awesome my dear, just awesome. Stay🏋️, Stay🩺, Stay True, and Stay Real.

I take two eggs for breakfast in a small bottle with a flatbread. ½ cook omelette and then drop the flatbread in on top before flipping over and adding grated cheese and chopped onion etc. sometimes a couple of rashers of bacon as well. A good start to the day and the pan wipes clean with a sheet of kitchen towel. A piece of tin foil makes a pan lid as can a foil baking tray.

In strong wind, apparently the answer with the Pro 2 is to lower the walking poles down to 110cm or 105cm, rather than the recommended 120. That brings the outer down to the level of the grass, and stops the wind getting under it. I haven't had to do that yet with mine, it might effect the amount of condensation. Also helps if you don't point the doors towards the wind, that would mean one pole on one side taking most of the wind force. Brilliant film thank you for posting.

You should just seam seal the stitching of the two tie out points on the side walls, as you may get some drips through there in heavy rain. Make sure you get the sealer for silnylon. I used Mcnett Silnet. Take care.

Hi, I've had the lanshan 2 for a few years now, and I love it
It looked to me like you still had it pitched a bit too low to the ground. With a decent gap between the fly and the ground you get less condensation.
If you look up tutorials for pitching the ZPacks Duplex and follow the same procedure because the lanshan 2 is basically a clone of that tent.
I use a lanshan 1 inner under my lanshan 2 fly, that way I have one giant vestibule that I can bring my bike under when I'm bikepacking.
Also, personally I did seam seal my lanshan 2, just to be on the safe side.
    Have a good one

Heyy, do you think? I just put it up with poles at 125 as recommended.. will have to have a look at the ZPacks tutorials. Using it for 2 nights in the Rhinogs, I was pitched in really long grass both nights so it didn't make any difference where the fly was, the long grass cut off all air movement and the condensation was terrible unless I had the door open all night.
I want to see how it does in heavy rain without seam sealing it and will of course seal the seams if I have to, but I'm not going to if it doesn't need it. Looking forward to trying it in some bad weather to see :D
Thanks for the advice, have a great week! Claire 🐻

I wondered what it would be like for that combo. I have the 2 with both inners. I never thought it could fit my touring bike. But the 2 is already tight for me with the 2p inners.

I can't wait to see you use this tent on future adventures. I have one and love it. I've been in heavy wind and rain and stayed dry. I don't use trecking poles so I ordered the 48" carbon fiber poles from Z Packs and they work great. Trying to get back into my hammock since I now hike with my dog. Just ordered the Pet Pallace bug net. Can't wait to try it out. Love following along and seeing all your new friends.❤❤

Many sincere condolences to Steve, on his tragic loss, i spent some time in the care of terminally ill people, sitting by their beds on night and day vigils often holding their hands as they passed, for family respite care, for 12 months ,when i was a student, and have shared in the sad experience of people passing, often having to wake them to tell them the sad news. I was always touched by the experience, and remember them all. There are no words that can comfort or take away the pain, that is so personal, all i can say is, having sat by my father's bed as he suffered from a terminal illness and passed, that some of us understand, that we are all with Steve in spirit, and we send him love in his sadness. The loved ones suffering is over, pain dulls with time, memories remain forever, live for yourself and in those memories. Bless you, stay safe all the best to Steve.

I've been watching your channel on my "burner account" kinda thing and you've made me really miss camping. Not had the chance to get out this year, too much going on at weekends (birthdays, weddings, christenings, family get together's etc...). It's going to be next year when I can get back out there, but I'll carry on watching your escapades. I'll also add you're a breath of fresh air not begging for subs and likes. Anyways, I've subbed on my proper account now. Hopefully I'll start uploading hiking videos soon, I have the footage, just not the time to edit it all.

welcome to the Lanshan 2 owners club !!…. my favorite tent …. i have the same tent …. luv it!! i also have the four season liner snd if you are expecting freezing temps / cold winds it’s awesome …. you need to seam seal the two patches on the side as water can migrate across through the stitching in really heavy rain … 👍👍

Not sure what the load screeching was? Possibly a hawk or owel.
I like your new tent. Alot of times sleeping in a tent in a sleeping bag I tend to get to warm. So at first I will sleep out of the bag and eventually when I have had enough coolness I will get bag in the bag. Idk. I just get to warm.

When I was motorcycle camping space was always a biggie but I’ve never used a one person tent. I don’t like sleeping in a crowded tent. You never know when you’ll get to that camp, get all set and wind up with two days of rain. A vestibule you can cook in us always good too.

I recently sold my Lanshan 2 and regretting it. It’s such a good tent and great value for money. So much space inside and great vestibule space which opens up for looking at the views. I now have a Wild Country zephyros compact 1, it’s ok but not really feeling it 🤨 I’ll stick with it and see how it goes. I’m glad you’ve found a tent that works for you 😀

Hey Claire. I was watching a video of a guy reviewing that same tent. (4 season). It looked amazing. I did think he had to seam seal it though. That is going to be my next purchase. Mainly for the weight but also the amount of room there is. Great video as usual. Hope you had a lovely time away with the family. Stay safe. ⛺️⛺️
