We were told that we are giving them a high pay to prevent corruption, but if this is shown to be untrue, the question on the need to continue to provide this high salary will come into play. We also have the worker's party video that recently just circulated as well. It will be interesting to see how all these information and scandals play out for both the Presidential Elections as well as the next General Elections, even if it were to occur in 2025. I doubt Singaporeans will forget about these incidents.

An advantage of a having a GRC system for a vacated seat like this? Absolute disaster in handling and messaging. Had this been a single member constituency, wouldn't a by-election be called in February and a new elected MP be serving KCC and Tampines East by end March? ELD history has shown that it is more than capable of preparing a by-election within weeks. Not 3 years, not 5 months (this was the duration required to make suitable arrangements for the residents of the affected wards). Both KCC and Tampines East would have had their full time MP, duly elected by them, serving them instead of the current arrangement of a stand in that MAY not be their choice. Many things involving Tan Chuan Jin's "wrong-doings" towards others in parliament would not have taken place during this period, including his display of partiality towards the PAP and against the PSP and WP, which is inappropriate and contrary to the conduct as speaker of parliament, and his use of "non-parliamentary language".
PM Lee knew since 2020 and these two unprofessional MPs were allowed to draw home their millions in salaries and bonuses since then till now. We need accountability from the ruling party. Many citizens are struggling to put food on the table but these two inappropriately-behaved public servants were allowed to carry on helping themselves to the public coffers. Atrocious.

An advantage of a having a GRC system for a vacated seat like this? Absolute disaster in handling and messaging. Had this been a single member constituency, wouldn't a by-election be called in February and a new elected MP be serving KCC and Tampines East by end March? ELD history has shown that it is more than capable of preparing a by-election within weeks. Not 3 years, not 5 months (this was the duration required to make suitable arrangements for the residents of the affected wards). Both KCC and Tampines East would have had their full time MP, duly elected by them, serving them instead of the current arrangement of a stand in that MAY not be their choice. Just to be clear, the newly elected MP could still come from PAP but with the mandate of the constituents. Uncalled for to justify the GRC system.
