@@jaxstar5731 I came to say exactly that…Human habitation around Edinburgh stretches as far back as 8500BC, while the origins of the Old Town can be traced to the seventh century AD, when the Gododdin established the hillfort of Din Eidyn on or close to Castle Rock, tempted by its proximity to the River Forth and its elevated and highly defensible position.

Stayed at the Balmoral Hotel about 8 years ago, old town facing room on 5th floor and was amazing, always welcomed, clean and you can feel the luxury. Also had my son with me and they placed an owl teddy in our room with mini bathrobe and slippers to fit him 😂
Olga Polizzii designs all the rooms and their soft furnishings. Her attention to detail is second to none. Formidable lady and 8 certainly wouldn't want to cross her 🤔🤣Comes from a family who understands the hospitality industry.😍
A wonderful heritage hotel exuding old Scottish luxury. The interior of the room was cosy and the subtle use of greenery in the decor was soothing to the eye .
Very luxurious Scottish hospitality. Whilst I have visited Edinburgh a few times I have not unfortunately stayed at The Balmoral! I did note, of which I was not aware, that it is a Rocco Forte hotel. He now has a small number of luxury hotels. The only other one in the UK (having checked!) is Brown's in London. (Somewhere again I have only ever had lunch!) So, The Balmoral (with a pillow menu - a first for me to see one) in Scotland and The Dorchester in London, what more could you ask for?! Great to have been able to see inside another iconic hotel. Room rate based on two persons is, I feel, justified.
Not going to lie, Loving the decor. I like suites that are tastefully decorated… so I like all the vases, books etc. … much( better than empty shelf’s etc .
What a magnificent hotel! It would be well worth a trip to Scotland 🏴 just to stay there. I love how the room is furnished. The inclusive package was generous. It was lovely to see the castle and the city of Edinburgh. Thanks, Tim, for a great tour. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧🏴
This is probably one of the only videos you have done where I have not been horrified or disgusted, what a wonderful suite, it looked luxurious & cosy. The price is pretty crazy for one night, but what an experience.
Wow. Lovely to see Edinburgh , but fantastic to see inside the hotel . I grew up in Edinburgh and have walked past there , met friends outside more times than I could count and have always wondered what it was like inside .. and it’s stunning . Absolutely awesome. Scotland is on the top of my bucket list. Your video is the next best thing. What a beautiful classic hotel. The housekeeping should be complimented.-all that dusting and polishing! Always look forward to your videos!
Wow! If every room in the hotel is decorated to that standard then it's a 5* luxe hotel in my opinion. The attention to detail especially the the amazing colour co-ordination of fabrics and furnishings is outstanding. Full marks to the lady stylist who obviously has impeccable taste and no expense was spared I would love to see some other hotels she has decorated. Love your vids Tim.
😬😬A 5 star luxury hotel should not be ‘advising’ their customers to tip the staff…never mind how much. That’s just tacky. Presumably the staff are already being paid a good wage, so why stoop to begging tourists to top up their pay? It’s not the USA where staff are paid peanuts and have to rely on tips to avoid being homeless!

A most enjoyable video as always. As a Scottish ex-pat, I’m delighted to see that we can still get some things right in the “Old Country”. FYI, if fish is baked under salt you’re not expected to eat the crust, it’s there for decoration, and what you ate as a side dish was purée, not mashed potatoes which is what we eat with haggis. It’s odd that a former Michelin-starred restaurant got the amount of salt wrong, could there have been cheese mixed in with the potatoes? Here in Italy they add Parmesan along with the milk and cream. Keep up the good work…
Absolutely love the Balmoral, having been lucky enough to stay there many times for ‘special occasions’ over the years. They’re great with comp upgrades too, if the hotel isn’t busy! Their afternoon tea experience is really good too!
Recently found the channel and while I haven't watched everything, this might be the first hotel that just says "luxury" to me, in all the right ways. Lovely hotel! Britannia needs to see this video to see what some of those beautiful old properties they have COULD be if they put some care into them. Loved seeing the Castle as well. Another great video Tim!

Well that was an enjoyable video. It's been over 25 years since I visited Edinburgh, and that was a fairly short visit. 10:41 That picture brought back back memories, I saw "Thunderball" with my brother and a few pals when it came out in 1966 at the Odeon Cinema, Manchester. Agree! Lovely hotel. Would never stay at the Trixie in Palm Springs Tim. I lived in Palm Desert and almost never went to Palm Springs. Live about 90 miles away now. Wish I was 90 miles away from Edinburgh. Have only been once. Went up into the Highlands and visited the Inverlochy Hotel. Also very posh. Thanks

Beautiful and clean hotel. Loved the pillow options. I have never seen that before in a hotel. Thank you for the lovely video. I definitely would stay there.
But also that was the room the Queen Mother stayed in when she came to stay! Like the JK Rowling one she locked herself in there for 6 months to write i think the last book or one of then lasts ones.
When I was growing up in the 70’s my Grandmother really disliked her, apparently she pushed George to be King(so she would be Queen) and insisted in been called Queen Mother after his death to keep herself in public view.
Such a beautiful hotel ... def bucket list location, esp since my paternal fam's origin began as a clan in Scotland. Now I know where we'll be staying! Ty for another excellent vid Tim.
Great video! The wallpaper and flowery furniture is so quintessentially British (of course)! It is always great to see you & or Gaby. Happy travels, much warmth and good fortune to both of you and the kiddo! Thanks for visiting and sharing your adventures-
Well, that's certainly one of the loveliest hotels that you have reviewed. I used to walk past that building regularly when I lived in Edinburgh, when it was still called the North British Hotel. In fact, it was built as a railway hotel. My accommodation in Edinburgh was a bit more basic - student halls!
Excellent review Tim. Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities in the world so this brought back many memories specially since Gary Eats reviewed The Witchery. It's fantastic to see The Balmoral looking so splendid and not a single piece of knackered furniture or dodgy stains on the carpet. It's a definite must stay. With regards to the tip, I agree it would have been more polite to ask for it at the end.
I would stay here. The coziness of everything is what sold it for me and the extra touches just made it even more welcoming. Sometimes a luxury hotel can feel a bit cold. But here, it's like you want to stay a few extra days if one could afford it.
We visited Scottland in '98 just about 6 months after Princess Dianas death. We traveled all through Scottland, visited many of the castles. Made our way up to Inverness. Saw Dunrobin Castle and took a tour, also swung by Balmoral Castle where people were still leaving bouquets of flowers at the gate there for the late Princess. I was so impressed by the history saved, stored and on display throughout. Loved our journey through the beautiful countryside. The people of Scottland were warm, friendly and inviting. We did take a tour of Edinburg Castle. I was in charge of the 8 MM Sony video camera but when we got home it appears I forgot to take the lens cap off during my recording. Pretty bummed about that. lol Thanks for your wonderful videos. Safe travels friend.
Hi Tim, Scotland is so picturesque. Never been in a hotel in Scotland. Lovely hotel very homely, loved your room they thought of everything. And you had an encasement round your mattress. I don't like a lot of salt either, cannot eat it if it's too salty. The breakfast looked very tasty. The castle you went to see looked amazing. Thanks for a great review Tim was very informative.
I live in Scotland and am really privileged to be able to stay in The Balmoral Hotel a couple of times a year. Incredible setting, furnishings and attention to detail. But for me, the amazing staff really set this hotel apart from the rest. Everyone I’ve encountered during my stays literally couldn’t be friendlier, more helpful or knowledgable about the hotel and the surrounding area. If you ever get the chance, please check out this amazing hotel. For me, best in the world! 🏴
Now that's a hotel! Classy, cared for, loved and with a barrel load of pride in itself. The tartan carpet is fabulous. That suite is amazing. Every detail is immaculate. We could never afford to stay there, but one can dream! Irn Bru popping candy chocolate - yes please! Erm someone need to tune that piano! Everything about that hotel looks incredible, possibly except the salty salmon! Thanks for showing us Edinburgh, it's a city we'd love to visit. The castle is stunning. Great overview. Cheers 🍻
That is the most impressively IMPOSING exterior of a hotel I’ve ever seen. Demanding respect while insisting hospitality all at the same time. And, wow! The interior. How they’re able to integrate the historic with the contemporary. Swish, to say the least!
What a lovely hotel...and they even put a mattress encasement on the bed for you. Attention to detail....it's the little things that count. Looked fabulous Tim x J x
NOOOOO you don't put water in Whiskey. what type of mad person are you. the scots will rise up and you will not hear the end of it. for A scot you drink your Whiskey. as it is meant to be drank NEAT. hehehe.
For me when staying in a designer boutique to a luxury hotel, I would make sure the property has a good lap pool and spa facility like a sauna and steam room.
Looks like someone’s apartment rather than a hotel suite. Absolutely wonderful room. Agree the whole place looks inviting. Everything is so clean. Yes edible gold leaf Tim. The castle is amazing and I watched the Edinburgh Tatoo. Loved it. Well worth it I feel. Thanks Tim. Loved it.
I really liked this one Tim. Love the decor - - furniture, fabrics, books and colors. Cozy. The grand staircase and harp - - terrific. The castle next door, even better. This place ties with the Wynn in Vegas. Kudos.
I love Edinburgh. My maternal GreatGrandfather came from outside Edinburgh and he ended up in Ireland! I still have cousins there as a lot of the family moved back. We must have a weaknesses for rainy weather! However, Scotland is beautiful. I would love to stay in the Balmoral. Thanks for showing it.
They will probably describe the music in the foyer as coming from a Clarsach rather than a harp. Far more relaxing than bagpipes! When my dad was a student in the 1970s, it (as the NB/North British Hotel) was still railway-owned. It was possible to access it from the station and use the bath/shower rooms (back then, some rooms were not ensuite).
I am Awestruck!!!! What an amazing fancy hotel and I would %100 definitely sit in that round windowsill!!! First thing that crossed me mind!!! I am only around 7 minutes and am just flabbergasted!!! NOPE!!!! That kettle...I'm out!!! (HA hhaaa hahahaha!) Loving this!

My husband and I stayed there for a full week last March and I have to say it was our favorite hotel stay ever! Those whiskey fudge squares are amazing. Such a beautiful hotel. We stayed in several Castles while in the UK after our stay at The Balmoral. While each Castle had their own beauty and elegance, the accommodations paled in comparison to our stay at the Balmoral. Also the afternoon tea there is incredible, it’s only equal we found was at the Colonnades at the Senate Library. Well worth a visit.

But also that was the room the Queen Mother stayed in when she came to stay! Like the JK Rowling one she locked herself in there for 6 months to write i think the last book or one of then lasts ones.
She wasn’t a very nice person unfortunately.
Thanks for visiting and sharing your adventures-
Welcome to my city, glad you enjoyed it, ive walked past the Balmoral loads but never went in. Thank you for keeping your fly zipped in this video
I used to work in it when it still was the NB. At that time Tim’s suite was the office for the management.
I would love to stay at this hotel! It is beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your stay here with us. 😊
How beautiful, not only the hotel but the surroundings. ❤ Thanks Tim!
Hi Tim,
Scotland is so picturesque.
Such a lovely suite, and OMG I ~want~ those armchairs from the living room! The blue and green velvet is just so scrumptious.
Everything looked so clean and comfortable. And I love the windows ❤
I think this is the nicest hotel you've stayed in. When I think of luxury, this is exact;ly what I'd have in mind.
Cheers 🍻
I absolutely love this video. One of my life goals is to stay in Edinburgh - or anywhere else in Scotland.
Where are you now?
Coach Trip?
I'm in America. 😊
That was water in the bottles, for use with the whisky
NOOOOO you don't put water in Whiskey. what type of mad person are you. the scots will rise up and you will not hear the end of it. for A scot you drink your Whiskey. as it is meant to be drank NEAT.
hehehe.
I agree!

You use the water at the end - to wash the residue of the whisky out - so you don’t miss a drop.
no it was gin in one of them and tonic in the other
For me when staying in a designer boutique to a luxury hotel, I would make sure the property has a good lap pool and spa facility like a sauna and steam room.
Thanks Tim. Loved it.
Hi! I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing, and I hope your channel continues to thrive! Greeting from IRAN 🇮🇷 ❤
I really liked this one Tim. Love the decor - - furniture, fabrics, books and colors. Cozy. The grand staircase and harp - - terrific. The castle next door, even better. This place ties with the Wynn in Vegas. Kudos.
Oh Tim in my lovely home town looking forward to watching this one ❤️
22.16 "Medieval England", he says! Erm, no, it's Scotland that you're in! :)
Wow what a beautiful hotel ❤ thank you for taking us along
I could happily live there full time.
For me best hotel so far, looked clean and very, very cosy
I would think the glass ornaments on that shelving is probably Caithness glass so maybe there to showcase it
Tim...all those glass ornaments probably from Caithness glass makers...made in Scotland
I love the Balmoral. Never stayed there but have eaten there and it exudes elegance
Can you imagine staying here on Hogmany and seeing the firework display, over the nearby Edinburgh Castle?
In about 1985 I viewed and photographed the Hogmanay fireworks from the top of the clock tower. I’ve definitely lost my head for heights since then.
Stunning Hotel in a stunning City 🏴🇬🇧
I've walked past this hotel for years and often wondered what it was like inside - wow! Thanks for exposing me to a side of travel that I highly doubt I'll ever get the chance to experience for myself - I love seeing you trying all of these super luxurious places!
Love this video ❤ was excited to see this one after seeing your FB post. It's a shame Gabby and Casper didn't join you on this trip!
Stayed here once before for my husband's birthday, it was the best hotel experience for us. Glad you had a good stay. You'll need to visit Scotland again soon 🏴🥃❤
Was für ein großartiges Hotel, ich sehe sehr gerne deine Bilder..Dankeschön aus Deutschland von Anne❤❤❤
There were NO STAINS in your room!!!
none! not one!
