I Stay In A Luxury Floating Hotel In Edinburgh - You HAVE To See This!

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 มิ.ย. 2024
- Fingal is Scotland's first luxury floating hotel by The Royal Yacht Britannia. Formerly a lighthouse tender, she has been transformed into an exquisite 22 cabin boutique hotel & is permanently berthed on Edinburgh's waterfront. It might be small but wait till you see inside!

I am just so amazed and most impressed that just less than two weeks ago, you were thanking your subscribers to getting you to 300,000 and now, you’re already at 318,000😮👏. And why not, quality and content are excellent. Have been enjoying your videos very much!
Wow, thank you!
You are the Best though Tim ❤
Hi Tim I stumbled upon your videos about 2 weeks ago and have been enjoying it since. I love your attention to detail and commentary and so much information. I love your down to earth personality. I’ve subscribed and has had my brother who is now subscribed as well as my daughters. We love it! As I wait for new videos I’ve been watching past ones to catch up. It’s very enjoyable and relaxing. Thanks
Agreed so much! He puts so much work and effort into his content, and it always shows in the quality!
Love your videos Tim! What a great way to make a living. Keep it up. You're doing great.🎉
I love that Tim is always trying to find a shower that fits 6 adults !!!
Tim’s a hoot!
I wonder why?????!!!!!
It's very much a Norfolk thing where families shower together.
@@bartonseagrave9605is it? I’m Norfolk and never shared a shower with my family.
I know, right?!
Wow I would rather stay there than the Ritz! That was beautiful-the bathroom and the bed with all the little details and the food it looked lovely. Quite reasonable too thanks Tim 😊
I agree!
And you have Edinburgh as a bonus kazt9826.
And the biggest bonus is that it’s not in London!
Surely the bath rest (?) opens so you can rest your iPad or tablet on it. Maybe a book but I’d imagine that’s what it’s for. I’ve never been to Edinburgh but wish I could go especially on that sort of budget. Lovely. 😊
Bingo. Although being in a bath not sure I’d trust a £££ iPad sitting on it. Who cares if a book falls in but not an iPad.
@@xr6ladmy sister once dropped the book she was reading in the bath .. the title? Bath Tangle lol
I work in 5* nearly every day, and most are the same boring carbon copies of each other; this looks incredible.
We recommend you try out Fingal a few months ago, and are so glad you did. Each room is named after one of the lighthouses around Scotland ( our room we stayed in was Dubh Artach) and the pictures behind the bed was a map of where your particular lighthouse is. With the tram line outside Fingal it only takes minutes to get to Edinburgh city centre, which is a fantastic place to visit. Great vid Tim.❤
Thank you for your kind recommendation.
I guess I liked the weathered look of the teak. I think the room was beautiful; you can see the details matter to them from the branding to the office space. I think the view of the engine room was incredible. I think this ship is absolutely worth it. You showcase trips others are not profiling. 😊
Whenever I want to lift up my mood, or feeling generally bored, I watch your channel, Tim.
I liked that floating hotel better than The Ritz in London. It is about the same in price, but seemed like so much more in terms of aesthetics, space, and delicious food, and it felt so much more relaxed and unintrusive minus all the waiters and service people all over the place ...Thanks for showing, and really hope Gabby can go along the next time for some special occasion.
Didn't the suite in the Ritz cost more than twice that of this one?
I totally agree!
I think The Ritz/London was a two Bedroom Suite, hence it was more money.
I stayed here a few years back, and was absolutely blown away. I felt that my cabin was one of the best hotel rooms I've ever stayed in, albeit much smaller than most rooms at land-based hotels. you had one of the gorgeous Duplex rooms, but I had the cheaper alternative, which is essentially a room with a window and ensuite bathroom - all just felt so premium!
The benchmark in youtube channels. Original and varied content that is always informative, educational and above all extremely interesting. Great Vlog as ever Tim
Thank you
I came across this channel on TikTok I think someone is sharing your videos possibly. But I had to come here and subscribe it’s like the cow wow of hotel reviews. I have not long had a baby so now I have something to binge watch during my night feeds 😃
Hi Tim, I stumbled upon your channel just recently. Your videos are very informative and straight to the point. Oddly enough, I find watching your videos so comforting which might be due to the fact that there is no background music interrupting your narration. Great job with your work and I hope to visit the UK some day 👍
I've used Tim's videos as my number one self soothing channel for nearly a year and a half now- there's something really relaxing about them!
As long as you don't say boring lol
It's mine and my best friends comfort watch! We like to put it on to watch in bed or on a Sunday when we're having a lie in :)
Very impressive. Having watched this shortly after having my breakfast, I could have still enjoyed your dinner! Value? Yes, something very special and exclusive. I think the wooden fold-up rack over the bath is a book rest so that you can luxuriate in the bath and read your book. With, perhaps, a glass of champagne alongside!
Book in a bath .. wow I'm sure the steam would ruine it
@@WalkWithMeTim that's for magazines and books. And it will not ruin the book if you take it out of the bathroom as soon as you get out. I have one and they are great.
Hi Tim. It is worth the experience sleeping on a cargo ship and a great idea to turn it into a floating hotel. I loved it. So quarky.
That bath tidy thingy is to prop your book or tablet/phone or whatever on Tim. I think thats the poshest looking room you've stayed in so far, very nice. 💕
It's lovely to see old ships being given a new life.. Beautifully done.. A very special treat at that price though 😊
What a great but different overnight luxury stay with the price to match.
Hi everyone
Hi Gabby how are you ?
you put this in the comments baby! lol
Hi there Gaby 👋 So glad to now see the way you spell your name as now I will stop spelling it with two “b’s” and start spelling it correctly.😘
FAIRPORT, New York, USA 🇺🇸🇬🇧
I am most grateful for Tim’s reviews. It has assisted me with planning my upcoming journeys. Officially retired and excited to get going. 😊
I rarely think I would want to travel outside the US, but now I’m thinking I might want to go to Scotland to stay on that ship. So cute.
😂Why on earth would you not want to travel outside of the USA and see the rest of the world? Why though? Why?
CUTE ?? That’s it ??? Maybe, you might want to go back & take another look, you think?
The world is a beautiful & interesting place! So much to see outside the USA
@@kevinengland7444 there are 50 beautiful states in America. Lots to see here with the hard earned money I have to spend to travel. That is why. Have you visited all 50 states? It’s a lot different than UK, where you buy a train ticket and go from Amsterdam to Germany to Italy all in a few hours or couple of days like my daughter did last year.
Typical Amenrican
I think that swinging wooden item in the bath is for book reading in the tub, or perhaps careful use of a tablet!
Yes that what I thought too being a book reader myself :)
Swish is such a good English word to describe this hotel! Especially that bathroom!
the wooden bath rack has a book rest! ha ha. the suite is really lovely
We actually spent a couple of nights on Fingal about 18 months ago, not in the two-floor room you occupied, but one of the larger one-floor rooms & it was pretty good overall. It was actually a return visit for me as I had spent around 3 nights on board in the mid-1960s as a child when it was obviously still a working ship. The food was very good, we had two breakfasts & dinner on one of the evenings. Definitely an enjoyable base when spending a few days in Edinburgh or nearby areas. Some friends did have their wedding on board last year, reserving the whole vessel for 2 nights for bride/groom & their wedding guests - I understand they had a great time. PS/ The deck did look in much better condition when we were there in mid-2022, I hope their maintenance schedules are not suffering & that the hotel revenues allows for timely refurbishment, it would be sad if not.
It is kind of you to share with others about your time aboard Fingal. We hope that you will return in future.
He's so happy to get his shoe brushes... happy for u too bhuti Sipho...we love u guys representing us
Add that one to the bucket list. Oh and yes to haggis for any meal of the day. Great video.
We hope to welcome you on board in the future!
Sophisticated Tim. Orders a drink and sits there going "ohh look - ice" and poking the ice cube like a Neanderthal.
Never change mate.
It was an impressive ice block with a logo inside. Most people would be poking it with child like wonder.
@@buddleiabeewith whiskey? i'd have removed the ice block.
This is a ploy now used internationally. it looks like 125ml drink until you remove the iceberg, then you find your paying a fortune for a 50ml cocktail - Archimedes Principle
@@1asset The beauty of the large ice blocks is that they don't melt fast, so they do a nice job cooling the drink without watering it down. I have several large silicone ice maker molds, a large golf ball shape and a rose shape mold. It's rather fun to use them.
Found you shortly after losing my mobility and was fantising travel. Love your unassuming manner. Lovely videos. Gorgeous family. Casper a sweetie. Hope channel grows. Love Julie. Xx
Thanks julie
Stayed at the Fingal for my birthday. Was beautiful and special from start to finish. The staff were all so friendly. It was such a great experience.
That looked absolutely amazing ❤ I have heard of Fingal but didn’t know anything about it but now I’d love to stay there. £550 for one night seemed quite steep out of season, but then Edinburgh is never cheap.
plus I did go for a suite .. there is cheaper rooms
Working on boats myself. This looks stunning, the quality of fit out is very nice. I love that they have kept the engine room immaculate and on show is a really nice touch. One pity is the wheelhouse interior has been removed it seems to make space for the table etc and the wheel doesn't look original but i could be wrong. Really nice!
Looking foward to this. Definitely think the next stop is a P&O cruise review
Coming soon
@WalkWithMeTim wonderful news. I've been on 3 P&O cruises and loved them. Not been on the new ship Arvia so would love to see that
321k subscribers - thanks for continuing to be such an inspiration to smaller TH-camrs like me!
That looks absolutely amazing. Although definitely outside my budget, for what you get it’s good value. Great video as always!
Oooh looking forward to this one Tim🎉..I love Edinburgh and all it has to offer🎉🇫🇮❤
We are due to stay overnight here in February, not in a room like yours, Tim, but I am loving that bathroom. Your dinner looked lovely (exactly what I would choose) and I think we will dine there, too. I have been in touch with Reservations and they explain that the tickets to tour Britannia are open-ended i.e. you can use them any time in the future, not just when you're staying. Hope you kept them for your next visit!
Yes as I mentioned in the video its good they can do that
How fantastic to hear that you have booked to stay with us. Our crew look forward to welcoming you to Fingal.
Looking at the boat from the outside, it’s hard to imagine how beautiful it is on the inside. Much thanks.
I've been watching your channel for quite some time now, Tim. You slways take us to unique places, and the Fingal is no exception. The food looked better than some of the so-called top hotels (Ritz). Great content, well presented. You'll soon be at 500k subs.
Seemed like the Mary Celeste as you looked to have got the whole ship to yourself! For the amount of space you got in your suite etc. £550 seemed reasonable. Looked a nice place to visit.
Ooh this looks special 😊 can't wait, hope you're all keeping well sbd warm, very cold here cloudy but fine dee you lster 😊
Your reviews are so relaxing..
Now that Tim has hit the big time, he should take Gaby on a Cunard cruise and vlog that. If it's anything like the Ritz video it'll be a banger.. 😁
Big time .. please explain lol
Great idea!
This is in another area of Edinburgh that the tourists must visit (Leith dock). 15 mins on the tram from St Andrews square!
Great vlog mate👍
Will be watching this tonight once I’m back home 👍🏻
Well that looked quite a delightful overnight stay
The shelf over the bath, when you lift up the lid, its for putting your book on.
The lift would be a must if you were disabled, but then you couldn't get down thise stairs in your room....great tour as usual Tim
Love the unique spaces! That bathroom tile was amazing.
Congratulations on 300k subscribers. Well deserved. Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you very much!
Interesting - The front of a boat is called the bow, while the rear of a boat is called the stern. When looking towards the bow, the left-hand side of the boat is the port side. And starboard is the corresponding word for the right side of a boat.
the bottom afa boat is the hull.
There are lots of other "boat names."
Todays' fun word is "Crisps". Actually, I think I have said this before, I like that word "Crisps."
The bathtub caddy: the flip up is for a book/magazine/laptop
HOW DO YOU FIND NEW AND EXCITING PLACES TO STAY! Oh my gosh you seriously have the most fun, varied, personal, yet informative travel channels in TH-cam! ❤️
Thank you so much!!
OMG, that looks amazing, I'll have to start saving my pennies 😉 the restaurant prices seemed pretty reasonable as well. Great vlog Tim 👍
That "marshmallow" you mentioned are our famous chocolate tunnocks teacake! Looks fab I know Edinburgh as daughter lived there but the hotel looks fabulous and your meal looked delicious! You mentioned not liking deer "venison" is an acquired taste as can be very strong! Great video❤🏴🏴Cathy
We stayed in that cabin the second time we went. We actually preferred the cheaper smaller cabins.
Thank you for introducing this interesting place
That's a Very.. Very.. A lovely Ship experience once on board you wouldn't want to disembark.
.
Wow, would much rather stay here than the Ritz! So beautiful. 😊
You and me both!
I love your videos and it's great to finally see you in Scotland! Lots more places to visit here!
Very impressive accommodations and hospitality.😊😊👍🏿.
Love your vlogs Tim, you work so hard to bring us with you on your journeys, thank you 👌🫶
Thank you
The ship looks fantastic from the outside. Wow. Cabin looks lovely.
Thank you, that is so kind.
I luv the term "swish"! Very RED CARPET!😂
That was awesome I really enjoy the places to go to and stay thank you very much and you have a good cameraman I’ll see you on your next journey
You were right Tim you were stood at the Bow of the Ship the front of the Ship.
I thought you were at the Stern (which is the back end of the Ship)
I thought it looked like the rounded back end but it was rather a rounded Bow!⛴️
The bowels of the ship is the inners down below in a ship.
I only know because I'm a Titanic Fan!
I loved the Engine Room on display lovely polished glass!
I loved this little Vessel I think she might be quite an old lady of the Sea, I bet she's sailed a bit then retired to the Dock.
And it was a real picturesque Dock too with the Old Fashioned Lampost.
The Olive Green Decor really looked very classy next to the shiny polished wood.
And I liked the Vintage fixtures & fittings.
The Bed looked very comfy & spread over 2 floors it was like cabin /Suite & it looked like you had the whole ship to yourself Tim!
The Bathroom was amazing I don't like those top tables over the bath either Tim I don't know why it opened it looked like you could put your iPad or Tablet on it like a stand but I don't think that's what it's there for on a Bath!!
The evening meal in the warm & welcoming Restaurant looked amazing I loved the Steak & Chips & the Starter Fish & Dessert all scrumptious!
It's a perfect place to go for a mini break on a Winter Weekend or as you say Tim it's excellent for a intimate Wedding very romantic!
And 22 cabin/suites like yours.
I would of liked to stay there with you Tim in the nextdoor Cabin!!
And I loved those Chocolates I think I might have pinched your choccies too🤣.
I thought £550 was very reasonable for what would be a very pleasant & relaxing getaway stay!⚓🚢...
Gonna be watching this when it drops. :D
Love your videos. Could you do some videos where you stay at mid range/lower budget hotels 😁😁
I really enjoy watching your vlogs Tim! They are excellent quality and very informative. Keep them coming 😊
Love the way you experience so many different types of accommodation from basic to very luxurious. Would love to see youy do something on the Isles of Scilly (if you haven't already done so).
Coming soon!
We've always wanted to visit Scotland and most probably Edinburgh, so thanks for the amazing choices if we decide to splash out and spend extra based on your Virgin and now Fingal vlogs! Thanks Tim, Subscribe and like people. 🙂
I personally really enjoyed the sleeper train to Edinburgh although based on Tim's video, I wouldn't pay the extra for a double room, my other half and I were fine in the standard bunks and doesn't seem worth splashing out the extra for the double.
We hope that you have a wonderful stay in Edinburgh, perhaps choosing to stay aboard Fingal!
My dad would LOVE this! I love this! Perfect relaxing time before a busy day at work tomorrow!
Hi tim
Loved the boat. I wanted to go on a cruise when i was 60. Unfortunately, my husband passed and my daughter would not do a cruise, so an alternative had to be found. 2022, the Sunborn yacht hotel london royal Victoria dock was found totaly by accident. Summer 2023 we went and loved it. We had a room with a little balcony. It wasn't huge but big enough for us. I request extra pillows. They appeared while we were out looking around for a restaurant. We did not eat on The yacht it was a little exspensive. So we tried a local chinese. It was lovely . Next morning we went for breakfast, this was included in the price.like so many hotels , it was serve yourself. Food was good. A hearty breakfast was had. The staff were lovely and didn't mind having a chat. We wandered around the yacht taking pics before we left. I would stay again. But there are more new beautiful hotels to stay in, and we are working through a short list. Maybe you could do the royal horseguards hotel in London. Would love to see inside this one. Please.
Omg tim that's amazing and nice price not too bad I love the ship and also the other hotel review glad you feeling better love the tardis reference and remember Tuesday 122 million rollover lotto so you might be able win that and buyou your sandbank house
Lol yes altho not many for sale at the moment 😅
Tim, another good video as usual, it is impressive what they have done with the ship, it does look very good and the engine room corridor was the best bit for me. Love to see the old engineering.
Great video as always Tim and thanks for the continuous great content. Looking forward to watching your next video 👍
this floating hotel is just down the road from where i live. never actually seen the inside of it before, so it’s nice to finally experience the fingal through this video ◡̈
Great video. Loved that cabin. £550/night? I thought it would be more. Unlikely to get up there but the Sunborn Yacht Hotel in London is on my radar.
We hope you will now add Fingal to your list too!
As a former traveling sea vessel, the RYB may be one of the few floating hotels I'd be interested in visiting. If the SS Normandie (with interiors of French-style luxury) hadn't burned in the 1940s, that would be another one. Of course, the Titanic (or its sister ship the Britannic) would be the epitome. However, if it hadn't sunk in the first place, its legendary infamy wouldn't exist at all.
The QE2, now in Dubai, reflects the late 1960s, so it's not as nice as the QM2 of 2004 is. The QM of the 1930s, moored in CA since 1967, is the original floating hotel & has the most old-time qualities. But it also needs the most work. Areas on the RYB like the room's porthole or the teak deck are child's play compared with worn-out areas throughout the QM. Maintenance would be even tougher if the weather around the QM were more like Scotland's or Florida's. When the QE from the 1930s was temporarily moored north of Miami, the tropical climate reportedly was really hard on the ship.
LOL. D'oh! Sorry, I overlooked the part where you say the ship is the Fingal, not the nearby Royal Yacht Britannia. Since the 2 ships are so close (& advertised) together, I thought it was a given that the former vessel of the royal family was the floating hotel, not so much another nearby boat. The Fingal is still a really nice place, but staying where QE2 (the person, not the ocean liner) once traveled would have been a great conversation piece.
Wow! thanks Tim for this vlog, I always look forward to them, keep up the good work, take care x
Fab video as always, and this place looked incredible - will have to add it to my bucket list. Thanks Tim
No way is that hotel worth £550 I’d say more like £250 at best.

Well that deserved a WOW indeed....It looked amazing..my kinda luxury...Ty for sharing Tim..another good find !🎉
Really enjoyed this look around such an amazing place looked very luxurious and such an unique place to stay, great video thanks👍🏻❤️
Its a beautiful little ship, the only issue really is its location, seems to be located at the docks or a port that hasn't fully been gentrified yet but I'm sure that'll change in the near future. Great video, I love your channel.
only pathetic ignorant snobs want everywhere to be 'gentrified'
It’s at the docks because it’s a boat, it’s right beside the shore which is a very populated area of edinburgh, so it won’t be changing as it’s part of the beauty of edinburgh
Just spent three nights on the Fingal superb, fully recommended, excellent food and service.
Beautiful cabins, I will be staying again 😎😊
If I had the funds I would be booking a stay there
Wow! What a beautiful place to stay, thank you Tim for showing us this 👍🏻
Gorgeous! I could sleep in that bathroom!
I love your detail in the boat work! Thank you!
Loved this video. This video brought back memories for me. My mom's family was Scottish and she wasn't a big drinker. But, when she did, it was a whiskey sour.
You always make an interesting, enjoyable and honest narrative. Thank you Tim. So good x
I’d say they are renovating that deck
I remember watching this get fitted out and it seemed to take forever - now I see why! Thanks so much for showing us onboard!
What an incredible treat. Wow, just wow.
I’m only 30mins away from this hidden gem and didn’t know it existed 😊
Loved it Tim. Thanks for sharing
Design-wise, what a triumph the interior is...the engine room is sensational, walk-through art! Great post.
The Fingal ship looked really lovely nice and clean. The meal and breakfast looked first class. Really enjoyed the vlog Tim thank you so much. Will give the ship a go sometime in the future.
Hey Tim… I’m new to your channel and absolutely love your content! Your videos are very honest and true to your experience, and I greatly appreciate that!
Excellent review. Looks like a cool experience.
