- My review of the CUSTOM LEGO Star Wars TIE Bomber set by Republic Bricks isn't a favorable one. While the finished design looks good, and is better than the 2003 LEGO Star Wars TIE Bomber, it has some serious flaws. If LEGO never releases a new TIE Bomber this might be a fine last ditch choice but it's probably worth waiting.

You can't open the cockpit easily, making it "Not a playset" yet it includes spring-loaded misses.
Flawless logic on the designers part.
This certainly wasn’t built in real life. A lot of things look great in LDD then fall apart in real life.
On some of these models the thing that doesn't make sense Is the way how they try to include features trying to do them well but actually without succeeding.
At least the green springer missiles fit and work fine, can't say ANY of that about the bombing compartment. A giant mess of compromises none of which actually accomplish anything

I seriously respect even though he got a $100+ custom set for free, Ryan gave his honest and unbiased thoughts and opinions for the benefit of someone who'd have to shell out some real dough on this unfinished thing!

Honestly I don’t know why they haven’t made a remake yet. It’d be the perfect small set, and the bombs fired would be a perfect play feature
Yea seriously cause we have a x-wing and a tie fighter at a smaller scale i would love to see a y-wing with a accompanying tie bomber at a smaller scale to fight against each other. Sad they wont do it tho
And it’s literally one of the only OT sets that they haven’t remade yet, as well as the Interceptor
My guess is Disney, who now owns Star Wars, wants LEGO to make sets that are more current instead of Original Trilogy related stuff.

It looks like just a rebuilt of the 2003 model with newer pieces to make it look better but i don’t think the designer realized the play feature of the 2003 model to drop bombs and just kept it. Kinda sad to see that happen. Looks good but not a polished model.
That’s basically all republic bricks does, they recolor Lego sets and claim them as their own lol

@@prairiefarmer5994 and they charge ridiculous prices for used bricks, this set is $115 for 500 used pieces. That’s ridiculously overpriced especially for a copy and paste model.
I’m very happy with my brickvault tie bomber (made by jerac), ended up paying around $350 for everything and it’s size and insane attention to detail makes every cent worth it. This looks far too “retail” lego for me if that makes any sense.
(Edit: I’m sure you can get it closer to $250 without the printed pieces and some other rare pieces and better shipping prices)

@@kyberbricks3781 it’s “overpriced” because custom sets take time and hard work to figure out how to make. Timmy and his team put effort into making these so thats where the inflated price goes into. It’s a business, after all
@@CanadaBricks yeah, but he sends crappy pieces and most sets look like slightly better play sets(with worse designs overall). No real reason to get this for display as it doesn't look that great.
This looks like it would have been such an amazing model if the pieces were a little nicer and a designer actually picked it up and fixed those tiny issues…

It looks like the designer made it as a prototype for a functioning playset, and they planned to add features to allow this, but the idea got canned and they just kept the design the way they last had it while they were designing it.

This is why I don’t buy from MOC sellers if I’m paying $100 plus I would expect brand new pieces, this TIE just proves you run the gauntlet of waiting for a release rather then just buying the set you want
His separatist shuttle has that same stability issue when building. Really disappointed, especially when my shadow 501st gunship took nearly 3 months to ship and came with specific missing pieces :(
If you increased the price and improved the design and quality of pieces, more people would buy even though you increased the price. People are reluctant to buy RB kits because it always feels like a shot in the dark for what you’re gonna get.
Definitely. Honestly RB should stick to making UCS type mocs like people don’t wanna buy very expensive playsets which don’t often come with minifigs and the quality of the pieces is mixed to poor.

Definitely agree, tho they are different in the fact you only buy the Instructions from them. Need to source all the parts yourself and pay for that shipping.
Honestly, this doesn't even look accurate to a Tie Bomber. It lacks the grey vertical stripe on the wings(also, either go full smooth, or full studs), the body has a weird step where it should be perfectly cylindrical, the arch pieces on the bomb chute that is actually perfectly straight along a 45* angle in the real thing.... Complete lack of greebling along the body too...
The rear is fatal though. TIE. twin ion engine. Yet he put two individual huge red dishes on each instead of the distinct double dots that are really easy to pull off with Lego.
This would be ok for a 40 dollar official Lego set, but not for a 150 display set that someone spends hours designing to look like the original.
This is what I love about your channel. Even though you are reviewing a set made and given by a friend, you give a 100% honest review. You are probably the most unbiased LEGO reviewer on TH-cam.

The four diagonal wings are meant to have a grey strip down them towards the front.
The old one by lego actually has it, but this republic bricks model only has it on the two flat non-diagonal wings on the side. Very sad this small thing using maybe only 4 pieces is not included.
Honestly these mistakes make it seem more like it was a work in progress or not quite finalized model. Maybe it just got rushed to production and the designer said "yeah it's good enough to go"
I think a lot of Republic Bricks sets suffer from some of the design flaws seen here. Not saying any are terrible in the slightest, but I think some designers need to decide if they want a playset, or a display set. And if you want both in one, you need to ensure if fulfills both roles properly and effectively.

I love how honest your reviews are of Republic Bricks sets even though they send them to you for free (it shows real integrity). What I like even more though is that Timmy doesn't take offense by it, and say something like "Give better reviews or stop getting free stuff", but instead takes all of your suggestions to try and make a better set in the future. A LOT of custom sets are very much "This was made with software, not in real life." I bought a rogue shadow custom set that tries to hang wings on single axles and thinks that because there's a stop for the axle at 90 degrees for a flying position that the wing will act accordingly. Yeah, that's not how physics works. The wings don't even stay on when in landed mode. Some superglue and a few botched mods later, yeah, I got it working appropriately, but like, damn. Nice concept, but maybe build the thing. I understand SOMEWHAT if you design it, there's a price tag with actually building it but 1) I'd think you'd want to build what you created and 2) if you're trying to sell the set as custom, maybe build the damn thing and tweak what doesn't work first.

I hope timmy or republic bricks doesn't get mad or salty you made a honest review and gave your opinions which were negative and takes the constructive feedback to make updates and changes to a future tie bomber maybe and also makes sure his future sets are built and tested more before he sells them. So you know if the instructions and features and everything works and makes sense.
The cockpit could really have used two 1x1 slopes to round off the lower corners. Would make the closed cockpit a lot better!
honestly Ryan, I would of recommended getting a TIE Bomber MOC from Rebrickable instead since there's 5 creators I've seen in particular who've done a far better job with some of them being rather impressive.

They made a new tie Bo bet but they should make a tie punisher it would be incredible
I mean, sure the vendor can go through the extra effort of buying and including shiny new parts, but the consumer can also just take some soapy water and take time to clean the parts too. I think the community puts too much stock into new versus used Lego parts. If four parts make or break the enjoyment of a custom set, and you’re willing to pay extra to get the parts new, then pay the extra yourself and buy 4 of ‘em online in the condition you want them in.
I feel like if you’re going to spend the extra money for a custom set, the pieces themselves should at least be clean and presentable. If you know you’re gonna get flack for using scratched parts while you’re charging a hefty price, then just order newer pieces so you don’t have to risk getting negative feedback through reviews.
Dirty old lego can be warped And not stay together so we’ll it’s why sets that have been around many years start to be more fragile

Yeah, mixed feelings. Visually it’s very good looking, but clearly the design has been rushed and that has left mistakes. Still too expensive, for the cost you could have easily thrown in a pilot figure, they’re hardly rare.
I wish Lego would just make a new tie bomber. I really enjoyed the most recent tie fighter model
It’s basically just copying lego’s old design while updating it with newer parts, but doesn’t accommodate certain designs bc they didn’t include the play features

While we need a remake of the Tie Bomber set we need it to be stable.
It´s funny to me how there is a whole design for a rubber band to put through on the bombing site (both in the piece to pull out and the frame that holds it) yet there is none included or mentioned in the instructions based on the wording of this video.

It seems as though the intention was that you could potentially add a working bomb bay into it, similar in function to the '03 model, however I'm sure most customers couldn't be bothered.
I don't know why the mechanism wasn't included, with just a slight price increase. "Unfinished" is a fair judgement for sure

And I must say the model is definitely not good looking.
It basically looks like the designer took the 2003 model, and made some token improvements on it. Swapped out the old windshield for a contemporary piece, added a couple spring-loaded shooters, redesigned the wings in the style of the most recent TIE Advanced, used a couple sloped pieces on top and that's it.
Literally anyone could do this, and yet they charge $100+ for it? It's a joke that they put this up on their store in the first place.

There are mesh bags that exist for washing stuff like pantyhose, that work well for throwing dirty lego parts in a washing machine. Just don't do printed or stickered parts in a washing machine. Clean those by hand.

at the start of the video in the back ground, can't help but notice is that a break in the lower back neck of the Venator and if so is she okay?
parts look crappy, laser cannons are inaccurate lorewise, missiles look like q-tips stuck inside, engines could be lore accurate for this price (OG tie bomber also isn't accurate but it's pretty old).
It falls apart, doesn't have bombs, and honestly the rocket launcher from the original is the best part of that fighter, even if it doesn't look very accurate. bomb bay is useless, nothing holds the bombs- they could include the 2017/2019 y-wing system to have bombs stored and secured.
I'd rather wait next 20 years for a lego model than consider buying this.
I have been looking at their stuff but I think I'll pass now. You pay that kind of money for a set and you get old used beat-up pieces? No thanks.
Plus I’m sure that Lego will make a new tie bomber in 2023 that’s far cheaper than this one and comes with figures and new pieces

The screen used model of the TIE Bomber was blue, so the sets should reflect that. Maybe not such a garish shade of blue, like on that 2003 set, but it should still be blue in order to be accurate to the films.
Are there other custom LEGO TIE Bomber sets? It is kind of frustrating that LEGO hasn’t remade it yet, when other ships seem to get remade every few years; but I’m holding our hope for a UCS TIE Bomber someday soon.

Esthetically i really like the tie bomber. What i didn't liked it's the badly structured bombs Launcher. A nice aspect of the wings design is the amount of details put in the exterior.

This set is pretty much the epitome all my problems with early Republic Bricks sets. Just copy and pasting designs that don't make sense or when you do use those designs they aren't replicated with the good engineering.
Timmy's improved massively since then so it just goes to show what criticism and experience does do to a man.
Timmy has discontinued the set already and is releasing a better one in the future

So my problem is that if you call it a “custom set” it implies that it is, in large part, a redesigned thing. But, it is obvious that this is a cut and paste of a 20 year old set with color swap and a few newer parts. Not saying that is unethical but it is lazy and on the borderline of dishonest
