It's kind of crazy how like 80% of the surface pieces on the new bomber didn't exist when the last one was released

I’m hoping for a full suite of tie vehicles in this scale, they’d all be relatively affordable compared to the older sized tie fighters and would make for a great display

While I'm not a fan of the new smaller style of Tie, I do appreciate that it allows us to get the bomber and potentially other larger ties at a more reasonable price. Crossed fingers that they'll remake the Tie Defender one day

If I remember correctly we'll get a Tie Interceptor this year as well. So maybe, just maybe, Lego is jumping on the Tie Train.
We can only hope. The old Ties looked good but compared to the newer versions, they just fail to fit in. A new Style Defender would be awesome but i'd prefer the Advanced to be first tbh.

This model is not undersized at all, actually! The TIE Bomber has always been a fairly small-ish ship compared to the standard TIE's height, and far as scaling with minifigures goes, this one is pretty spot-on, much like the 2002 one. I'd recommend checking out BrickSet's Star Wars scale guide to have a more accurate notion of what sets are undersized and oversized, some of them are actually pretty surprising and unexpected.

Jang is one of the best Lego reviewers, just puttin' that out there. Not a massive Star Wars fan, but Jang makes it entertaining nevertheless. I bought the 8-stud yellow Lego camper van which Jang reviewed, and converted it to a 6-stud VW classic.

I think they could have replaced one of the figures with a KX-series droid. That way the set could have also related to the bombing of Mandalore shown in the Book of Boba Fett and would have offered a highly desirable figure we haven't had enough of (+ we recently saw some of these droids in Andor, so they would still be relevant)

I'm a weirdo and absolutely love the TIE Bomber, so this set's pretty nice. $60 is a bit steep, but it's still acceptable. Though the bomb bay could be improved considerably, if I had one I'd look into modifying that somewhat...

    • @waveburner1254
      @waveburner1254 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Hello fellow Tie Bomber Fan. I have to say despite it's pricetag it's rather fair for what you get. Sure the Tie itself is Not that big but the build itself and the quantity of pieces are worth it.
I got it for 54€ which is a good deal. But yeah, i recommend waiting for a pricedrop If you're unsure yet.
Also, improving the bomb drop wouldn't be difficult because the build has a 2x2 empty space behind it. So there's space for improving it. I myself have no idea how to modify it best tho.

    • @Beer_Dad1975

Agree, it's a nice model but it doesn't seem great value for $65. I'll get it for sure since it's an OT ship, but I'll wait for a sale.

Crazy to not have a "bomb drop" like the old model considering the (I assume) massive empty space behind the pilot, possibly instead of the small cart build. The bigger screen looks so much better on the old model, I do love being able to see a pilot. Overall the set is still pretty good. 3 minfigs is odd considering you only have a pilot and small cart driver as roles. Droids are always a welcome addition.

I'm not really a fan of the Bombing mechanism in this set either. I do wonder if the original method would be superior: I remember loving that version as a kid, it looked great and was easy to use. Plus, modern rubber bands are so durable. While I was writing this comment, you brought out the original, and I'm really glad to see the comparison. It makes a real difference. It also made me realize my childhood tie bomber is missing the sensor at the bottom!

Personally this TIE Bomber is not particularly attractive especially in terms of the value, given its size relative to the TIE Fighter in particular. The figures are pretty nice especially when we are getting Rae Sloane for the first time. Would probably consider picking this up at a decent discount.

I usually don't really go for Star Wars, but the TIE bomber is one of my favorite SW craft next to the Y-Wing. I actually own the 2003 version, which of course looks terrible to modern eyes. I was quite pleased when they finally released this new version - I ordered it yesterday and recieved it this evening! Can't wait to build it.

As a lifelong Lego Imperial die-hard, these new downscaled TIE fighters are a dream. They actually feel minifig scale; I liked the Solo TIE Fighter, but it was so huge it felt ridiculous. These actually feel to scale with the minifigs.
Also, I'm loving Lego's recent focus on smaller, very durable sets. I've got this one, the regular TIE fighter, and Obi-Wan's Jedi starfighter recently, and what really strikes me with these new sets as opposed to older ones is that they're designed from the ground up to be suuuuper tough with nothing loose or prone to falling off. Nothing whobbles, nothing snaps off, it's all super robust and swishable. I am all for it.

On the one side, I'd have preferred it to be in the 50€/$ gap, minus the side build and including just the pilot (ala new X-wing and Tie fighter).
On the other one, this Vader is a compelling point for me: probably the best likeness to date of Sebastian Shaw in ROTJ. I sense the collectibility will be strong in this one...

I've been waiting 12 years for this set to be made, since I became interested in LEGO and STAR WARS a couple years after the 2003 model was retired.
Even though I don't like the down-scaled sets, this one has good proportions and looks good from every angle. It doesn't look like it's a downscaled version of a better set with the single goal of being cheaper.
I'm happy with the model and it definitely was worth the wait!

The 2003 Tie Bomber set was a set I loved as a kid. I'm really surprised how good the cockpit is of this new set, when I saw the pictures I was immediately nervous and skeptical, but the smoothness of the cockpit really makes up for any lacking.

I love the inclusion of the light cargo speeder thing. Similar thing came with the last Slave I, too, but I think this one's more relevant in this set's context.
Combat vehicles like fighters, bombers, tanks, etc. are cool and all, and I do love them (both in Star Wars & real life), but they won't be able to do their job as well or at all without the support & logistics stuff like munition loaders or cargo trucks (/speeders). As simple as it may be, this little build really boosts the believability of the whole thing & expands imagination for me.
It (+ the rebel personnel carrier from the Yavin IV set) even inspired me to create my own little Imperial utility speeder (haha), and it's given a little extra life to my lego empire.
Kudos to the team for deciding to go with this thing (perhaps with left-over parts budget).

I greatly appreciate the smooth, sleek exterior of the new one, and the accurate TIE engines on the back of each pod are a fantastic (and needed) improvement over the 2003 version.
However, it does not have the ability to fire missiles from the ordnance pod. The best part of the 2003 bomber is the huge missile launcher (or launchers, in my case after I modified it to hold two of the older, large missile launchers), and the new one's dual stud shooters, while a welcome addition, are not a missile launcher.
That said, I've seen several conversions online for replacing the front plate of the ordnance pod with one of the new spring-loaded missile launchers, as well as rotary bomb magazines like the Y-wings have instead of the down-facing flick-fire missiles, so I will appreciate what we get from this set, wait for it to go on sale, and modify it to my specs.
Which is, honestly, the best part of LEGO. Some of my favorite sets are the 2006 A-wing and B-wing, because I have spent so much time incorporating the new spring-loaded shooters into their hulls without (significantly) changing any external features.

I didn't mind the price too much considering how much I've wanted a remake of this ship, but I kinda wish it came with an additional minifig. I certainly wouldn't want the ship itself to be any bigger.
I like that other commenter's idea of a KX droid (I remember fan boxart a couple years ago which included one) or even an astromech. Ground crew or another hangar-related figure would have been cool as well. Gonk droids are nice but they're just a handful of very common pieces.
In general it's exactly what I expected and that's fine. I wanted a TIE bomber and that's what I got lol

  • @RRSlugger

Thank you for comparing the two side by side! It was honestly a good wake up call for me to see how janky the original was in comparison to this newer, more sturdy build. I really like the design of this new model.
With that being said though, that pop of colour on the old one really highlights how drab modern Star Wars has gotten. I know the era of blue TIE Fighters is scoffed at these days, but they’ve just gotta find a way to get blue back on these models again! Maybe Sand Blue would work better? 🤔

    • @HGHsChannel

      Hi Slugger !
Sand Blue TIEs would be awesome. The 2016 TIE striker has little sand blue details and it's one of my favourites. The old Blue TIEs might look a bit ridiculous, but I love 'em; they were the only ones I had for a long time and they're still sitting on my shelves!

Recently built this, and it may just be my inexperience with LEGO relative to you but I found the build process to be very "the designer was given a random assortment of pieces and had to awkwardly make a TIE bomber out of it" - and I mean that in a good way, it was a very enjoyable building experience because nothing felt cookie-cutter or repetitive (at least for the main body).

Despite it being like 20 years since Lego made a Tie Bomber model, the fact they've made SO many other Tie related models over the years makes this not as revolutionary of a return as one would expect. Yes its a new Tie bomber after many years, but all Tie fighter models are constructed with relatively similar techniques anyway, so there's not much significant to say about this one beyond that it's solid.

  • @Benjamin0119

Hey, millennials like the original trilogy too. :)
I like the TIE Bomber, though my favorite is the Interceptor. When was the last time LEGO made one of those? But this is one of the cooler weird looking Star Wars ships.
Anyway, it's a nice set. Definitely an improvement on the original of course. I thought those sets were ugly even back then.
LEGO really doesn't try to get the bluish colors of the TIEs from Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi anymore. Though I really don't know what color they would use. Maybe sand blue? But it would probably require a lot of recolors.
I don't like that the pilot can't see through the cockpit. Not sure if that could be easily modified.
    Random Darth Vader is random.
Whoo gonk! Though I don't remember any Imperial gonk droids.

How does the size of this compare to the tie advanced in that a-wing vs tie advanced set? Looks pretty similar.

What a great model. Its nice to have Rae Sloane made into a figure. Kind of a random figure selection if you ask me but its whatever. Too bad they couldn't have a see through windshield. But still a nice set and I can't wait to buy a few of these whenever they drop down a bit in price.

If they want to add extra figs then it should be a trooper. That just helps with army building. This way the army you would have would just be a Vader army.

I just got this set, and while I’m overall pretty satisfied, I definitely feel it’s overpriced. The design is solid but the volume of “stuff” is just not their. For $65 I could have gotten a speed champions 2 pack (they’re $30 in my area) and another single car, and that feels like way more value, especially in the design quality and build experience. It’s an alright set. Good for what is is but in the grand scheme of things it’s a bit lackluster.

I was expecting something more in the "oversized" category like the recent N1 but it's actually reasonably sized, in line with the $40 TIE which is perfect for me.
The bomber looks great, just wish they kept the frame structure build for the wings like the recent TIEs for consistency sake.
The little bomb cart is nice, would have been better is there was a mechanics or a trooper to actually use it instead of an officer or Vader, that would make more sense.

Stranger: "Wow! How did you get that buff?"
Lego fans: "Every time an imperial ship lego set has a Darth Vader minifigure, I do one push up."
    "Oh my god..."

I would have replaced Vader with a technician and additionally include a Stormtrooper.

It's pretty cool. More interesting than all the tie fighters going around. Bonus if you don't have a darth vader, which I don't. Still a lot of money to drop on more LEGO...

Yeah exactly. If you're not "collecting", the tie bomber was quite average. I guess you played tie fighter as well. I bought a used tie silencer a while back and built that instead of this.. it could be ucs compared to the current play scale range. For 90's kids though.. something even less mainstream.. a big tie defender would be nice. The old set is so bad its actually cheaper to part out than it is to buy used.

Good model. That bomb drop does not seem... well it looks very awkward to use. At 50 or 40 it would be a buy but that price is too high. Why not a mechanic minifig to drive the reloading cart?

I like the look of it but wish it was a bit larger and could see the pilot inside through the window. It's nice to get another Imperial officer too. Nice review Jang

Nice simple Star Wars set that I am looking forward to hopefully buying on sale at some point this year. No way this is worth that much, it's just too simple and low part count.
