    I had the 147 Cappuccino dial the first time on a vacation in Paris on my wrist. And fell in love instantly with the size and the amazing dial. At the time was not willing to pay full retail for it, so I left it in the back of my mind. About half a year later…I saw it online for a better price and my first ever Seiko got into my collection. I fully agree with your review! I love this watch on so many straps!!! And on an aftermarket bracelet.

    I’ve had the limited edition white/blue version for over a year now. Still one of my favorites! Seems like everyone likes the grey dial but this watch comes in a bunch of great colors.

      That SPB213 looks exquisite! Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to see one at my local AD. Maybe I would've pulled the trigger on that if I saw it. I guess the grey one gravitate towards rolex's rhodium dials.

    Love the radial brushing on the bezel. I have the SPB 297 (SBDC 165) Glacier Save The Ocean Special Edition, and feel the same way you do about yours. And I have many more expensive watches, but this one is just the perfect every day wear.

    • @KirbyYoung
      @KirbyYoung  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, the radial brushing kinda grew to me. Don’t notice it anymore because of the beauty of the dial every time i look at it. 😅 I agree, the watch has a simple charm that makes it like-able no matter how big or small the collection. Glad you enjoyed, Mitch.

    Had the jdm version sbdc101. Wore for 1 week than sold.nits a beauty but too much of a dressy timepiece for me. Marked up the bezel on the 1st day I wore it. Now I have the spb317 and couldn't be happier.

    I think my ideal 3 watch Seiko diver collection will be the skx009 sla023 and spb143. More research mist be done however. Including procurement of the spb143. And selling some unmentioned. Thanks for your video.

    • @KirbyYoung

  • @beardymcbeardface69
    @beardymcbeardface69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's what I dislike about starburst dials. Legibility is a big thing for me and if there is too much glare, some reflective effect which reduces contrast or causes distraction from reading the time, then I can't be happy with that watch. I've had a few regret purchases over the years due to that.
    This is why it is so important to witness a watch in person and not buy online or order from just seeing photographs. Happens on some high end watches too. I went to a Grand Seiko boutique to have a look at some GS divers and their latest and most expensive (non-limited edition) diver has this nice wavy pattern, but which causes a terrible loss in contrast due to glare under certain lighting or lighting angles.
    I went from drooling over the online photos, to knowing that I absolutely did not want that watch even if it were the cheaper of the two.

    Wow. I just checked your video list. Your SOTC is massive. Which brings me to your comment about owning this watch makes you regret owning other watches.

    • @KirbyYoung
      @KirbyYoung  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching, and yes, that is true. Most modern Seiko's like the turtle's and sumo's and also the baby mm200's. I regret having had them ever since buying this one. That is just a personal opinion, of course. It's more of a trial and error process in collecting. You get to know what type/size of watch you really want through previous purchases, and the next time around, you know what fits your style.

    I have the San Martin homage of this watch. I purchased it to see if I liked it enough to buy the actual Seiko. It’s specifications/dimensions Are exactly the same and in some cases dare I say better. The one issue I have with buying the Seiko Is the size(lug to lug). I think it wears large. I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist and it Just feels/looks big on the wrist. I know it’s preference but that’s my two cents.

    • @chi1057
      @chi1057 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a similar wrist size and dont find the lug to lug too large. I think it's less than 47mm which is compact for a diver and is designed to fit smaller wrists. One of the smallest Seiko divers available. Like you say it is personal preference.

    • @johnbuckmaster569
      @johnbuckmaster569 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s 48 lug to lug… But I just didn’t take it conformed to the wrist as well as many of their other dive watches. I realize they were updating an existing design. However I believe the Original 62MAS was tiny By today’s standards. Less than 38 mm.

    • @chi1057
      @chi1057 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @John Buckmaster it's 47.6 lug to lug which isn't large for a dive watch. Sounds like you're after something more vintage sized.

      @johnbuckmaster569 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chi1057 Don’t mean to be argumentative but I don’t think the logs turn down very well which I know is a product of the original case design. And I’ll also find it a little bit slab sided Similar to my Rolex submariner

    I mean people complain a lot about price but it is much better looking than other prospects. Perfectly sized and at the end of the day anyone can buy for 1200eur. Not 2000 eur like many other brand and lets face it, there much higher priced diver watches that dont taper etc.

    • @KirbyYoung
      @KirbyYoung  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's right! The availability of this watch speaks for itself. It's mostly currently out of stock now in my country.

  • @dan4logic500
    @dan4logic500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For me personally the issue I had with the watch is it needs a tapering bracelet. the movement needs to be well regulated not a gable to see if you get an accurate one or not. And the QC needs to be perfect. In order to justify the over $1000. Because in its current state it feels sooo much like a cash grab to cash in on its die hard fans and it does provide the value it used to provide

    • @KirbyYoung
      @KirbyYoung  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting points. However, I paid below the retail because it was on sale so i’m not bothered in the price department. On the QC side. Seiko’s that are not SLA’s are questionable. Misaligned bezels and what not. This is my 3rd 6R35 (the two were sumos) and so far no qc issues. It is a miss or hit indeed.
