  • My reading of The Adventures of Tom Bombadil #1 from, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Other Verses from The Red Book by J.R.R. Tolkien, with Illustrations by Pauline Baynes. My copy of this work is contained within -The Tolkien Reader.
There are sixteen of these verses. I went ahead and recorded the entire work, but technical difficulties on the editing side started cutting into my schedule for recording LOTR, so instead of uploading the entire work as I intended, all sixteen verses will now have there own playlist.

    Thank you for this!
I was reading the book myself but I was having difficulty with the rhythm whilst reading it and this has helped me grasp it.

I have the same book/edition--1974, and the pages are yellowed exactly like yours and ruffled edges too. Hey, is that my book?? Many of my Tolkien books are 1974-77 editions purchased at a thrift store 40 years ago. I still haven't gotten the Histories, not all of them anyway. Still looking for a deal though. Thank you for the story!!

That's very interesting! I just looked - my copy is from 1966, second printing. I don't recall exactly where I came upon it.

Much like the story of Beren and Luthien, Tom Bombadil and Lady Goldberry represented himself, J.R.R. Tolkien, and his wife, Edith, who he loved so much, that he immortalized her in his lore so they would never be forgotten. I imagine that in the future, his descendants will not only remember he himself, but also his beautiful wife, who he loved so dearly. There was never a more unique, and original author of the 20th century, than J.R.R.Tolkien. And did publishing companies say to him that there was no genre for his works? Or that his genre of writing had no market today? Of course they did. And he proved them wrong.
