I am also from indiana, 53 years old. I have been a history buff since I was a kid. A real nerd that way. My wife and children also appreciate the past. I would love to get involved with other people that explore sites around indiana.

I enjoy getting out to explore old buildings like this. Arizona has a rich history to explore. Thanks for sharing.

On January 20th there’s a Natural Restorations cleanup project there. I’ve been to those ruins dozens of times over the years and think it’s funny how many people drive by it. About 20 years ago, in the mid-2000s, I had a geocache hidden there.

How cool is that! I was on the USS Marvin Shields FF1066 in the late 80’s and we tied up in Port Hueneme for SeaBee Days weekend in 89’. Keep on traveling! 👍

I would think an Old Stagecoach Depot would be a great place to metal detect. When people traveled in the old days, they brought their money with them. No wire transfers and such. And a lot of the currency was in coin form. So I would imagine there was a lot of Commerce done at these types of places and a lot of coins dropped. People traveled with their valuables because they had no other choice. I would certainly love to metal detect something like that

You're probably right. There is a lot of overgrown vegetation so you might find some stuff. Have a great day!

That camping looks so different from any camping or parks we have here in the upper Mid West. It is hard to wrap my head around.

Maybe they are shooting at Will? This area needs to be designated for preservation of history. I visited the little Willow Springs stagecoach station off the Willow Springs Tehachapi Rd in California. They are growing fruit and grapes. They gave me a bottle of their wine. It was interesting to see real bullet holes. It was really wild in the west back in the day. Thank you for sharing this important forgotten piece of Arizona history. It is good to have pictures.

@@SeabeeTraveler I also used to hang out at The Rock Inn at Lake Hughes CA. It was a Butterfield stage stop turned restaurant and bar. It was owned by Paul Koslo a character actor. A short distance down the road is The Painted Turtle a camp for chronically ill children owned by Paul Newman. Lots of stagecoach history in the area. Will have a great week if I can stay cool. You have a cool week😎

During the Pony Express rides this was part of the route known as the Hundred Miles of Hell that went from Payson to Gila City, known to be home of renegade Apache.

That was fun! I try to imagine what it must have been like as compared to a truck stop today and I think it wasn't a lot different, except no AC. By the way, what Battalion were you in? I was in MCB 6, long ago.
