      Tarquinius Superbus that was my first thought too. It is a beautiful piece and I love Sinkevich designs but it is a lot of money. I could probably pick up a nice preowned Shirogorov for 410 if looked long enough. Maybe not a Sinkevich Shiro but there's definitely a lot of nice knives at that price point to compete with. It is an awesome inife though for the Spyderco fans which i am. Id love one and a slyz bowie as well as a K2

    Wasn't planning to pick one up initially but now I've got one ordered on the way.
    Wanted to own a Sinkevich design, and the ZTs didn't quite do it for me. This knife, the blade size, and overall machining, had the best match. I may have bought it, but I don't agree with their pricing either. This is over priced.. but beautiful from every other aspect.

    • @JTsKnifeLife

      What would they have to do to make this knife worth $410?

  • @DenyTheZeitgeist
    @DenyTheZeitgeist 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Completely agree. $200 too expensive. ZT did the 0456cf for less. It’s that pattern though. Those wavy lines probably eat up a ton of machining time.

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. I don't think it's overpriced, it just adds embellishments that most people don't think are necessary and won't want to pay for.

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, if they made this in the USA it would probably be cheaper, because I don't think they could do this level of machining in their Colorado factory.

    Dying to own one of these..I do have the ZT 0456 CF which is the closest Sinkevich that I can think of. Nick showed the EXTENSIVE interior milling on the lock side in his tear-down video. Impressive. How is the pocket clip going in and out of the pocket? Does it create a hot spot, ergonomically? If you take the knife apart & put some KPL on the washers to get the action smooth..& then maybe you can also adjust the détent. JT...you had some GREAT insights into the niche for this blade! Looks like a user to me!😛

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot for watching, and yeah, I'm glad nick did a video to give a closer look than I could. No hotspot that I felt with the clip, but it is hard to get into the pocket. The geography of the frame creates a tight squeeze getting the clip all the way into the pocket.

    • @bobb.9917
      @bobb.9917 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      JT's Knife Life Spyderco continues to have clip issues! That is disappointing on a $400+ knife, at this point in knife evolution.

    That's a very appealing knife. I'm not normally a major Spyderco fanboy, but they really took this one to a new level. While I can more-or-less understand the price point here, it's up there and it remains to be seen if it holds up with long term use and carry. We shall see.

    People who are complaining about the price, Really don't understand the intended demographic this knife is for! Just like watches, cars , art, etc...certain blades are made for the upper echelon of buyers.
    The cost of the designer/tooling , premium materials, and top notch manufacturing (very detailed milling involved ) all contribute to the cost of this piece. A custom Sinkevich would be thousands!

    It's beautiful but the price point it's at is Chris reeve territory where you get both looks and performance with a warranty that encourages disassembly and user maintenance. I have a Chris Reeve inkosi insingo with the micarta inlays at the moment but my draw to spyderco is the blade steels offered in the pm2 sprints as I use my knives ... the Asian made spyderco are very well made but it's not quite Chris reeve fit and finish still , if I was spending 400+ on spyderco I'd sooner take 2x sprint knives like the dlt trading m390 etc . Even for the collector the sprints appreciate in value more on the secondary market as soon as the run is out of stock in dealers , the m390 from dlt or the bento box blue are going for 290-335 on Ebay nearly double their rrp

      I understand the price is high for what is a cutting tool, but I honestly know of zero knives that are machined this intricately and well at a price point any lower. If there isn't a lot of value in that for you, then the value of the knife won't be there at all.

  • @jimyocum9556

    You take a look at a delica or endrura and the what is called machining on this knife isn't anything near the machining on either of them.. just because it's carbon fiber and titanium and not frn doesn't really make squiggly lines and weight reduction significant in my eyes but TH-cam reviewers seem to be raving about it like it's something great..

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So FRN is made from a mold, so it's really easy to do. I've seen people 3D print plastics way more complicated than Delicas or Enduras in no time. Titanium is a different beast, the hardness of it destroys bits and makes intricacies like this difficult to achieve consistently. Personally, as a knife guy, I am impressed with this. I don't speak for any other knife guys, or any other people who review knives.

    2 years? I give it a year. And that’s being generous. This knife is going up against the three giants, Not to mention all the high-end stuff China is putting out. Also it has the carbon fiber show side scale, That alone makes it 25 to 30% weaker than a full ti frame lock in my opinion. Not to mention the actual build and design that goes into making it strong for example the hinderer with it’s oversized stop pins, or the sebenzas Bushing pivot that I’m sure this one doesn’t have which occurred because they put it in the manix, pm2 and shaman. It’s nice looking if you squint and blur your vision a bit but that’s about it.I personally would spend $400 on a sebenza or maybe a reate. Just my completely biased opinion, again not the biggest spyderco fan here lol

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably agree on all points. The thing I think though, is that Spyderco is perfectly content with it being discontinued. They know it'll find a small market, some of their big fans will love it. They'll sell as many as they can, show how nice a knife they can make, and then it'll go away. And that's probably the plan.
