I have a 302 in my 91 F-150, and I'm currently over hauling it back to factory. This video just answered every question I've ever had on the rebuild. You are the best, and I'll definately be using it once my new heads come in!!!
Just randomly found this video, really nice engine build. Ive wanted to put a Weiand 174 on mine, but the price has gone up on them almost $1,000 now.. eek
If you put a stud in the 4 corners of the intake bolt holes of the head it let's you put the intake on perfectly every time. Take the studs out once you start some of the intake bolts started.
Excellent!! What a very profound and important step to the build! Looking forward to the next update. Every time I see that car, I can't help but think of the classic James Bond movie "Diamonds Are Forever." :-)
+Austen Oh now that's a cool throwback! I think people forget that the 73 was also the first actual Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds (although both were fastbacks and this thing is a coupe) but I like it and it will be a ton of fun to drive when it's done...and that's what matters most!
Nice update. That is going to be a great engine for the mustang build. I'll look to see if you do a video on that Throttle body set up. Keep it up! Clay
Beautiful....definitely Blessed.....Awesome job your doing on that Mustang.....Nice clean work..... Thanks for posting your stuff I enjoy watching and get inspired.... Ive built a few Harley Custom Bikes and now trying my hand on a 69 Nova..... watching others and picking up on tips and ideas .... I picked up on a few ideas watching you do the Brake system on her..... Thanks for sharing..... Be Blessed Cheers
+Shakerhood69 That's what I thought, it's tempting to put the shiny new stuff on but just cleaning up the old stuff is best sometimes. Thanks for the confirmation!
thanks for explaining the pollution pump thing, I had wondered about that in the states, here is Aus, pollution equipment is based on the year of the motor and older motors can't go into newer cars
+Ursh anabi We have a similar thing here...since this engine was pulled from a 1995 Cobra Mustang and is going to live in a 1973, it gets a break on the smog requirements.
+Ursh anabi In the U.S. Any vehicle built before 1975 is fair game to swap whatever you want in but cars after that have to comply to smog regulations.
+tommyboy1two The tech guys at Holley say that a stock cam is a really good way to go when running a supercharger and since I'm not sure what is actually in there...I just left it. We'll see what happens when I go to start it!
I'm really surprised you didn't at least go 0.30 over or even 0.60 over as the early 302s were more than able to accept the bore change and respond nicely to the increase. I know because My brother in law is a die hard Ford fanatic and has a bunch of big bore 302s
may be when you put that main stud for the blower with therad locker instead antiseez... cause you might want those stud not to come loose... just a thought...
In your opinion, how much power can the 302 reliably make (assuming it's not a Dart block). Also, assuming you're going with the T5, how much can that handle?
FYI should replace the lifters, pushrods, rocker arms all back to original position locations, in order to match cam lobe positions to match wear positions wo accelerated wear positions cross-matched. avoiding abnormal wear positions (cam lobes, pushrods, rocker arms)
Man I love your build. I'm sorta following your build with my car.except I don't have the money to get the sweet parts. Hi Jason. Dayum! That was a great video Man. I love what you've done with the 302. This suckers gonna boogie when you're all done. That is if Fred gives you a few days off to do more work on it, lol. Glad to hear you're enjoying your work on Dirt Everyday., yet another of my favorite TH-cam shows to watch. When are we gonna see you on Roadkill? lol ttyl -Drew
+Supradrew™ Ha! It's all good...being busy is better than not having anything! Those Roadkill guys seem to be doing really awesome lately, I'm just glad to get to work with them every once in a while. Hope you are doing good my friend!
I believe you misunderstood the "174 " )or shaver the exact number was) and how it applies. While the number relates to cubic inches its how much air the blower pushes through per rotation. So in our case about 174 inches per rev of the blower which turns at some multiple (overdriven) of engine speed. Thus if your blower turns at twice engine speed it will push more air than the engine displaces causing pressure to build up in the plenum... like putting water into a leaky bucket ... if you put more in than can flow out the level (pressure) will rise. And that's what you want. Atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi so if you are putting 50 percent more air in than can get out the pressure of the air in the plenum should be about 18 -19 or 1,5 bar ... yielding a net increase of about .5 bar above atmospheric or as we say "7 pounds of boost" ... Want more boost? turn the blower faster with a smaller pull on the snout. Too much boost? use a larger pull on the blower. Pretty simple.
DId you use the 80's v-6 serpentine setup like the instructions say or did you do something else? I would love to know how you set up the pulleys.. Thanks
+Bill Mayer I used the 1995 serpentine pulley setup with NO Drama at all. Highly recommend it for this install. The only change I made was for the smog pump delete...I'm even going to use the stock tensioner. In another few days I'll measure the belt and do that install and can post the measurement here if that would help.
the first video I seen of this guy and he's already sold I just subscribed I plan to do a Ford 302 supercharged engine and put it in my ford ranger it's got that 2.5 litre disaster and since it was my grandfather's I would like to keep the truck but everytime I Drive it it sounds like hell through a certain temperature range it might be a sensor but I've just had enough of this BS

+marine50k Well, years ago an old timer told me to use sealant and it has just become habit at this point and to be honest, I don't remember why it was recommended. I have been using the "right stuff" on the last few installs with no issues. Any suggestions either way?
+autoedit thanks for explaining that one. I don't really have a technical reason for doubting the effectiveness of your choice, more of a gut call thinking that the sealant might not survive as many heating and cooling cycles compared to a gasket. That said, experience trumps gut, so I shall give it try sometime when I have the opportunity. I shall have to google the "right stuff" and find a UK equivalent product.
+n20cpri I did have to make a little clearance on the tensioner bracket to give a little more room for the upper radiator hose. I thinks it's worth it to have the stock housing on there.
OMG! Yes that would help. I have been wanting to put one on my 331 for awhile but was not happy with the pulley option. Also what made you go with the over Weiand over the other options. I can't wait to see your engine in action. Thanks
+Bill Mayer The 90's pulleys are the best deal! It was a fairly easy choice on the brand, I'm a huge fan of the Holley family of products so I go to their webpage and Weiand is the option for Super Chargers there and I love the old school looks and simplicity of the 174. I just put together a large order for my fuel line and fittings on the Earl's section last night!

really enjoy your videos - I am knee deep (wallet) deep in restoring a 67 Mustang and have the original 289 - would like to upgrade motor - will the supercharger fit under the stock flat hood with the dual turn signals - thanks
+Darrell Nunnelley That is a great hood on the 67...not one to be cut up. I measured today to check for you, and the top of the Wieand 174 supercharger and throttle body sit as high as the stock manifold with a stock air cleaner...so not enough room (I don't think). Give me another month or so to get this motor in my Mustang and I'll throw the hood on to see what the stock hood and this trick Holley low profile air cleaner I got look like.
+autoedit Thanks for the quick reply - planned on going with wilwood brakes/rotors and TCP suspension based on your recent videos - would you rebuild the old 289 or do a crate 302 or 351 - want to keep the automatic trans so any ideas are appreciated
+Darrell Nunnelley I'm glad to hear that some of the parts choices on this project help. All of the stuff in my videos have been top quality parts...no bs. +autoedit The budget for the complete motor with all components is around $6,000 so that won't work - was hoping to stay around 325/400 hp and a dependable driver vs weekend hot rod
Did you know holding the top of your torque wrench like you can change your torque due to the pressure you apply. You should try and hold the arm only.
I've seen 4 people putting blowers on in the 19 80's forget to take the tape/paper off the bottom using my dad's garage late at night.Finnigan also forgot to on I think Blasphemi. expensive part ,no one wants to be the guy who drops it

Hi there! Let me start off by saying you're doing a great job on that car! I have a '73 Grandé myself and I'm VERY envious of your work! I'm curious, though. I'm assuming that supercharger is going to add quite a bit of height to the engine. What kind of hood are you planning on running?
+GrandStang Yes, the hood will be a bit of a challenge. At this point, I would like to keep everything under the hood so that may mean creatively welding a "power bulge" or something...stay tuned we'll find out together!
I have a 302 in my 91 F-150, and I'm currently over hauling it back to factory. This video just answered every question I've ever had on the rebuild. You are the best, and I'll definately be using it once my new heads come in!!!
who says money cant buy happiness....thats a nice build..I have a chevy 355 ..with a blower cam...and a 177 weiend shpercharger...
wildthing302 question do you need a tune with a supercharger
Royal Jays just make shure your carburetor is up to the task...and be careful with your timing...
I like to put a couple pieces of threaded rod in the bolt holes when I set the intake manifold. Makes getting it on straight really easy.
That is a great tip! Thanks for that.
holy crap that motor looks sick man I cant wait to hear that supercharger!!!!
+Robert Ritchey Yeah Buddy! Me too...

great video, i am installing the same blower in my 66 coupe, just one question, what distributor and headers you're planning to use? thanks
I went with the Flowmaster full length headers that fit perfectly and the msd dist.

General rule of thumb about 500hp for the motor and about 300tq with a stock T5
Always awesome video...

+n20cpri I did have to make a little clearance on the tensioner bracket to give a little more room for the upper radiator hose. I thinks it's worth it to have the stock housing on there.
kinda surprised you didn't use a multy layer steel style gasket and also did you use 2 gaskets and was that to loose a small amount of compression..
I was told this engine didn't have very high compression to begin with and the terminator EFI can manage the timing for me so we'll see how it goes!
OMG! Yes that would help. I have been wanting to put one on my 331 for awhile but was not happy with the pulley option. Also what made you go with the over Weiand over the other options. I can't wait to see your engine in action.

What pulley kit is that?
It's the 6 or 8 lb pulley. Low boost.

+autoedit NICE! I can't wait to see how that turns out!
Where are you located
Can i buy the old power steering pump
I don't think I have it anymore.
please let me know of you ever want to sell the blower. very interested been looking for years
why didn't you use sealer for the gaskets ?
+2R98 I only use sealer where it's needed.
+autoedit don't you need sealer for the heads and intake ?
