I like the center gas caps, going with billet sounds really cool. Love to hear you're not the only one whose recalculated the value of A/C as you've aged. When I was younger I always pulled it off to save weight and HP, but I think I'm adding it to my next project as well.
Great update and lots of cool stuff. As far as the poll question, gas cap in the stock location with a flip style cap. I am going to do the same thing with the gauges in the 73 Sportsroof except with Phantom II gauges. Looking forward to the next video!
Back in the late '80s my roommate and long time buddy had a 1971 Mach 1 that we had tons of good times in, so I dig these cars.... anyway, I always liked the factory 71-73 gauge clusters, I would just jazz it up with the auto meters.... Great video Jason!!!
I have a '72 sports roof that was my high school car. I am a fan of the flip style gas cap, but more importantly early want to save money for other customizations . I have those headers, but for a 351c 2v. The flange for the collectors have the bolt on the bottom which affects ground clearance so you might check for that. Since you are running efi you might need O2 sensors. For gauges the 5" pro comps will fit the stock cluster, but you have to trim the gauge housing so it will fit in the dash depth wise. That is where I am stuck as I cannot figure out how to mount them to the cluster. Love the project. Keep it up!
My flavor of muscle cars are the 1969 Mercury Cougars. So we have many aspects of this build similar. Been there done that kinda thing. Now that you wire wheeled the grime out from under the car I urge you to give it a spray or brush on coat of your favorite rust encapsulation paint before you undercost or bed line it. If not, the rust will come throuh even if you think it is clean. I did mine and it paid off big time. Used Por15 I think. Eastwood has a product too. I purchased a gallon and applied it with a brush. Worked great!! Nice silver color too. Then used a spray on bed liner/undercoating to finish up. As for the gas tank, I have done both. Turned the neck into the trunk and left it exposed. In the trunk it is more safe so no gas straling but I did have a hard time.with fumes. So I went back to the external. Excited to see how the motor comes together. Just bought an 86 5.0 for our 85 Fox body project. Excited to get it started and see how it runs in the garage before we drop it in. T5 also of course.
Excellent as always!! Love your updates! You have some very exciting and big plans for this car. It's going to be a fantastic performing package and it's fun to see it all come together. Keep us posted and looking forward to the next chapter.
Do the billet style gas cap in my opinion. Unless you are going to shave the door handles or side mirror delete for example, you would want something else to complement the shaved gas cap panel. Add the aftermarket gauges you have to the stock gauge panel. Oh you might want to add LED taillights too, i have them in my 69 and they look awesome and you can fiddle with the signals. (i.e sequential signals) Good luck with the build. I will stay tuned.
Good to see a video out there Jason!, I'm glad your going for a more modern engine for that beast and with the blower and that EFI system in sure it's going to be a great drive! I'm planning on selling my 85 firebird and get a 1965 Ford country sedan (galaxie front end) and stick an EFI system on it so it'll be good to see a detailed video of how it works out on the mustang!
That sounds like a good project! Just so you know when I mention Luke at the beginning of this video, I mean you...thanks for that last gentle reminder last week to get me off my duff and make a video.
Very cool. I like the thought of having something out back at the normal gas fill area. I would want something flush and something that breaks it up a little. Maybe a flat black door of some kind that slides away? Also, classic gauges look best, wouldn't go new with those. Imho.
Shave the stock fuel filler and relocate it behind the license plate. That way you're not opening your trunk every time you gas up, you don't have to worry about spilling fuel INTO the trunk and you still achieve a nice, clean look on the rear of the car.
Keep the fill neck in the stock location. They make some pretty cool caps with the mustang and ford logos for that specific install. And I would go with a race cluster or maybe a nice digital display depending on what you want with the car. When I did the last mustang I did the outside all original with a few accent pieces. And the inside all custom new age. Along with the suspension and brakes. Classic car with that new car feel is awesome.
Look into buying a digital dash. Possibly with black brushed aluminum. They look awesome in a 68. Since you are adding a/c I would not change the gas tank set-up. You want it to be a pro touring car not a race car with a 5 gallon tank. I would rebuild the engine so it could handle the blower. Also, does the blower have a separate oil cooler? I would also invest in hi-po radiator, coolant, and oil. I cant remember what you already bought for it.
That particular 5.0 produced 240hp. You could send the GT40 heads off to "power heads" and have them CNC machined/ported and valve job, freshen the bottom end and match a decent cam to it and make a solid and conservative 400hp..... or are you planning on some aluminum heads?
autoedit they should have around a 160cc-170cc intake runner and 70cc exhaust.... with somewhere around 1.90" or 1.94" intake valve and 1.60" exhaust. 60cc-64cc combustion chamber. Certainly better than factory iron GT40 heads. Have you started researching a cam to match up to it all? Large Marge is going to be a bad !%&!? lol.
really great to see the project moving forward!!.. awesome collection of parts, ...a nice billet aluminum gas cap will look cool, ...can't wait to see some cool burnouts in this beast, ...saludos from mexico.
I say mould a gas fill in the quarter panel , mount the gauges on a brushed aluminum panel set at about 10-15 degrees and I've just rebuilt a 95 5.0 ( check my videos ) and at your power level you should use a d.d.s. or like main girdle. Those blocks flex a lot.
Yes!! I'd personally like you to go for the smooth rear with fuel filler in the trunk as the caps been done to hell. A smooth rear with an individual look would be much more fun.
Ok so this is just what I would do. I would smooth the gas filler hole. It give a nice clean look and make the body lines follow. I would keep the stock gauge cluster. Hear me out before you all hang me. Keep the stock but fill it with after market gauges like the cobalt you showed. The stock gauge will keep the follow of the interior and the aftermarket gauge will give it a new look. Also give some thought to what color you want the gauges to be. This way it will match the direction you go with the interior. For example: My 86 Mustang I had years ago (I miss that car). I love the cobalt gauges but I saw so many people with them or gauges with the same color. I like to be different. My interior was black with red accents. So I went with black faced gauges and red LEDs. Ok, I've type to much already. I get excited when talking about car builds.
Hi Jason. So what number am I out of the 14? lol. Nice to see an update. I was mentioning you to a friend just yesterday, telling him about the Mustang. I'd like to see a Fuel cell in the trunk and smooth over the filler hole in the rear valance. And I'd also like to see some sweet aftermarket gauges in that panel. Great choice on the '95 Cobra motor. Those are great to build up and parts are plentiful. And you should be making some BIG power with that blower. I can't wait to see this one on the road. I'm looking forward to the AC install. That's gonna be "Cool". Sry, couldn't resist, lol. ttyl -Drew
All 14 of my you tube friends are number 1 to me! HA! Thanks for the continued encouragement and good advice...hmm, fuel cell...ok and yes the blower is a big deal for me!
I watch all your videos and like them very much. I like all the hardware and just look forward to you teaching me how to do a burnout in the Mustang! Love, your wife PS-I do go in your garage.
I think the hideaway gas filler is cool. don't see it much on the classic mustangs. On the 5.0 I would go with a Cleveland upper end to get the most out of that blower. I built a few with Edelbrock, Holley, but the Cleveland is my favorite. Its adds a classic touch with modern HP. Check out the Australian aluminum Cleveland heads. Lower that compression for that blower for sure. I have a 73 Mach 1. I'm going to put the same coil overs you installed on your coupe and a Full Brake Conversion.. 351C 408 Stroker.
As far as the fuel fill; I have a '68 that of course fills from the same spot as yours and the trunk idea would be cool because in my experience getting as much gas on the ground as you do into the tank just sucks. I prefer the aesthetics of the rear mounted gas cap over the flat, but I think I'd much more prefer the practicality of a more efficient fuel fill over spillage.
hey man.... really really nice work there, love your videos! with the cluster you should do something like this New gauges in our 1973 Mach 1 Mustang i did that with automata ford racing gauges and came up awesome, also you should keep the original fuel filler hole, its a mustang thing, you could change the tail lights to shelby ones. and for driving that thing you should try fitting a power rack and pinion steering, i would love to see that, want to do that to my 72 mustang. peace bro!
Leave the gas filler stock. Go for the sleeper look keeps the car period correct. Have you thought about porting and polishing the heads to get the most out of that add power from the blower.
I've been watching ur videos and decided I want to go a similar route with a 91 mustang I own, so can u provide me with the part number of the Holley efi that u used for this build please?
Some cool guages I've used. Digital is everything. If you want to put a little modern into a cool car digital gauges make the interior look like your own personal cockpit. Cool sleek and leds. Enjoy. Love the supercharger, cant wait to hear that puppy roar. www.carid.com/1973-ford-mustang-custom-gauges/
That's the first time I've seen a shaft on a supercharger than long. I personally don't like seeing aftermarket tachometers stick out of the dash, kind of ruins the clean lines.
@@AutoEdits Pretty sure. If you get a chance, check out the episode of Engine Masters where they dyno tested a dozen or more air filter configurations. It's shocking how much power some of them give up

Great update as always Jason! Looking forward to seeing all of those goodies getting installed.

Cant wait to see Frankenstang come together! My vote is on the trunk filler. All about those clean lines. Looking forward to the next installment!
All of the mods look cool. I would add some metal to the rear to give it a fastback profile but retain the scooped out look of the coupe.
I agree...needs a little "junk ON the trunk" !
Excellent as always!! Love your updates!

car is coming along very nicely!
need another video ASAP!
Filler on the inside of the trunk would be my choice. Nice smooth panel would be sexy as hell.
that would look nice depends on if he puts on the rear honeycomb on or not
Cool, thanks...mark one up for no external filler!!!
i wish you would have put this much effort on the maverick, but im not complaining :)

I really like the idea of LED taillights...I haven't found them yet for the 73.
autoedit LED taillights look terrible.
I love LEDs for a lot of things, but NOT taillights...
If you dont have anthing good to say dont say anything please. No one cares what you think looks terrible. Positive input only.
No one gives a rat's ass what you think, so piss off. I'll say what I WANT to say, you TROLL.

1971 pop open gas cap. Put some 5" autometers in the stock cluster.
Id smooth out the rear filler hole, and do a nice custom gauge cluster set up because the stock one looks bad to me.
Ok...one more for smooth...and I agree the stock cluster is boring...must make the effort to change it I guess.
Nice one!!!! once again you're right on my friend!
What casting marks/numbers are on the Holley heads?
Hi Jason. So what number am I out of the 14? lol. Nice to see an update. I was mentioning you to a friend just yesterday, telling him about the Mustang. I watch all your videos and like them very much. I like all the hardware and just look forward to you teaching me how to do a burnout in the Mustang!

I think you should do a hideaway filler hole behind the license plate so you can a clean look in the rear but be different
I would say put the newer gauges it. The cars not going to be Stock to you might as well make it totally badass inside and out

Totally should smooth the filler cap and move it to the trunk. No doubt about that.
And more than 14 people watch my friend. ;)
Thanks Dude!
Run a center gas cap. Maybe black chrome?
i need more than 7.50 min..... p.s. glad to see the update
This was quite awhile back. Do you have any follow up thoughts on how well the supercharger worked, any changes, regrets, problems?
Never ended up running the sc since it just ran so good na. Ended up selling the project before digging in to the sc.
@@AutoEdits Thank you! Was just curious how well it worked and held up.
hell yea man
im soooooo jelly

Is the efi setup more around the lines of $1000+
I've been really wanting the reliability it's provides
Yes, and I'm looking forward to being able to tune it for max performance!
Thanks for the response. Keep up the great work
Grabbed a beer and FHRITP :)
Go with the redline works gauges, they'd be awesome!
I'd go with the filler outside, feels kinda stupid to me to open the trunk when you want to fill up.
I've been watching ur videos and decided I want to go a similar route with a 91 mustang I own, so can u provide me with the part number of the Holley efi that u used for this build please?
to be honest .. i thought you were going to put the V10 in the Mach1 oh well
somthing else for the gauges and keep the outside filler and put shelby tail lights in it!!
I love mustangs
Fill in the back panel get rid of the 71-73 big filler cap.
Some cool guages I've used. Digital is everything. If you want to put a little modern into a cool car digital gauges make the interior look like your own personal cockpit. Cool sleek and leds. Enjoy. Love the supercharger, cant wait to hear that puppy roar.

That's the first time I've seen a shaft on a supercharger than long. I personally don't like seeing aftermarket tachometers stick out of the dash, kind of ruins the clean lines.
Do the traditional gas cap.
Can I use a normal carb with the Weiand or do I need a blow through ?
Yes, that's one of the benefits of this setup!
I won't have any problems with power valves or the floats then? Thanks for the response man
+Troy mackeod No problem! Yeah it just draws through the carb like a larger cubic inch engine would.
You will need a manifold reference carburetor
I'm subscribing.
+andujo211 I'm glad you found this channel and thanks!
how much did the supercharger cost. nice stang by the way
It was bout $2600 from JEGS but Summit has it for the exact same price.
race pack!
I say smooth the rear over
It's looking like that is getting the most votes...so it'll probably go that way.
Thanks a bunch for taking part!
