    It is nice to see some home grown companies that make gear still at home. It is great to support them if you can, as they tend to be the ones that drive innovation. We don't have much made here in the UK as most Companies now use overseas manufacturers to produce their gear. We lost our industry as it once was decades ago mainly down to the cost of producing items here compared to having it made elsewhere and allowing them to remain competitive. We still have some great Kayak and Canoe producers and accessory makers.

      Interesting insight, thanks for sharing. Story sounds similar to here but perhaps to a further extent.

    How do you clean the handle on the MKC knife? Doesn't blood get all over the paracord?

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya probably. I just rinse it off and let it dry. No biggie. But you can send it into MKC and they'll clean it, sharpen the blade, and replace the paracord for free as part of their guarantee for life.

    I likeyour content. Very informative.
    Fyi...audio on your vuds sounds muffled...i turn it up but when ads come on i have to turn volume down.

      @theoutdoorempire  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I'll pay more attention to the audio. It's also a bit tricky because ads often amplify their audio above normal so it catches people's attention.

      It's just some random cotton Levi's jacket I got at Costco several years ago.

    I think the big takeaway here is that I should start my own TH-cam channel. I'm sure it's not that easy, but man, you get so much free stuff! I hear this all the time from content creators: "They gave me this stuff for free, no money was exchanged, and I'm under no obligation to say anything at all and I can say what I want." Sure, you didn't get any cash money, but all that stuff has value on the open market. Facebook Market Place, Craigslist, eBay - you could open up a second-hand outdoor equipment store. Actually, I'm too old and lazy to do that, but this younger generation has so many interesting ways to make money off this platform - impressive in a lot of ways. Thanks for choosing to give some away, btw.

      Indeed, it's an interesting way to earn a living. Starting this mid-career for me (I worked white collar professional jobs for the past 15 years) it's been surprising in some ways. But perhaps since I'm not young anymore, I also don't get enamored by free stuff. I can't pay for my kids' braces with pocket knives and coolers.
      So I don't feel like it truly biased my opinions, rather it supplements my budget for gear I can test and makes it possible to try more stuff than if I purchased everything at market price. I've also learned some folks are of the opinion that, as a product reviewer, you will be more bias if you do purchase the item because of the psychological attachment you have with the value you place on the money you spend.
      Anyway, I know there are a lot of opinions about it, so I'm just trying to be open and honest about it so people can choose for themselves.
      I've also learned a lot of companies take advantage of creators by sending free stuff in exchange for promised content that would otherwise cost them a lot of money to make. I tell brands I make no promises of content, only that I'll try it and it may or may not find a place in my content. Many of them never send me stuff because I won't guarantee content and that's fine. Plus, I ignore 90% of the emails I get from companies (mostly obscure Amazon brands from China) that want me to make videos about weird stuff, often that has nothing to do with the outdoors. They get super aggressive sometimes. Now, I only try and take stuff I'm genuinely interested in or would use in the first place.
      Sorry for the long response, but I know you've been a long-time viewer and I appreciate that. I figure you might appreciate if I shoot straight. And yeah, as of last week I am indeed giving something away every week going forward to people on our email list, so hopefully that demonstrates a little that I'm not dong this for free stuff, I'm doing it to inform people about gear and encourage them to go outside and have a good time. I also hope to donate some gear to non-profits or organizations in need where it makes sense. We did that recently to a local bird observatory. I'll have a video out on that soon, it was a pretty cool place. Cheers.

      @@theoutdoorempire Hey Chase, I love your channel because you're family-oriented, you're more into family-style and "everyday guy/gal" kind of camping, and I have complete faith that you're completely transparent and above board. I hope this channel lets you buy your kids the best braces money can buy! I get the newsletter as well. I'm just constantly amazed, as an old boomer, how things like TH-cam just change the game. If this gets you out of a desk job, great! Desk jobs suck.
