Unfortunately, it was not as well received as previous musicals. However it has aged well, I first watched it when I was about 7. I am now over 40 (but I won't say by how much!)
Spoilers if you haven't already watched The Slipper and the Rose! One little thing that I love in this movie. The Prince is kind to John, releases him from his duties as companion, and helps him to get the woman he loves. Because of that, John and Lady Caroline are in the right place to see Cinderella as she dances, and alert the Prince. Had John not been released, presumably they would not have been there. So by his kindness to John, the Prince regains his own lost love. Nice little 'what goes around, comes around' touch.
Watching this in 2020. Still is my favorite Cinderella movie. Beautiful dresses, humorous, and beautiful actors. This movie should defenitely be more famous! I love it. And how I love Richard Chamberlain❤
Just love the crumbly old King - Michael Hordern is brilliant as a man with no real grasp on anything, but a definite weakness for ladies with small feet !
I love small details in this film like the Chamberlain having liquor in his staff of office and the king taking a sip when it suits him. Such details make good characters and good relationships.
Excellently written jokes, - in Oscar Wilde elegant style, beautiful clothes, hairdoes & interiors, amazing choreography! Wow, - just wow! Fairy Godmother is witty&charming, Prince is a kind&handsome young gentleman, Cinderella is lovely.
I saw this at the cinema when I was a child and lacked the sophistication to enjoy it. Then saw it a few years later and have been enchanted by it ever since. I adore Annette Crosby as the fairy godmother and after I die would love to be reincarnated as someone like her who could help make dreams come true for the sad and lonely. The singing, the dancing, the special effects when the pumpkin turns into a beautiful golden carriage and the mice turn into horses after that adorable little dance they do just fills me with delight. I have this movie on VHS, but no VHS player to enjoy it, so thank you with all my heart for uploading it.
The only version where prince acknowledges that a ball for marriage would be degrading to all parties involved. i thought disney's version was nice but this is much deeper.. and the line when grandma dances and later says "Most irregular" is so funny and adorable.
This musical is brilliant. The slipper and the rose has three amazing representations of my favorites villains, playing Margaret Lockwood (this was her last movie in 1976) like the evil stepmother and Rosalin Ayres as Lady Isobella and Sherrie Hewson as Lady Palatine, the two stepsisters. I didn´t know that Richard Chamberlain would sing actually or would have done some musical, but Gemma Craven was all a revelation as Cinderella, the best movie of her filmography. All the credit is always for the heroes, but the presence of realistic villains is very important too.
Fantastic! Loved it. Richard Chamberlain is my favourite male actor. It was such a treat watching him in this role. So glad I came across it on TH-cam.
One of the best movies out there and all the way from the 70's... It feels so real and it was always so stupendous to watch this. The costumes alone must have taken months to do and the surreal way the movie places is essentially in the 1700-1800's period. I watched this when I was a child in my grandparents house in an old VCR recorded a long time ago. They had a few as they used to watch this periodically since then. Nothing beats good old fashioned acting and honest display of emotion... How much we've progressed and lost... definitely worth a watch. =D
I'm surprised that some or most people have never seen or heard of this movie but it's amazing! I love this take on the cinderella fairy tale! It's awesome and of course i love the prince and music! I love it!
This was my favourite movie growing up and is still my favourite movie to this day. I used to watch it every week. The waltz scene is one of the most beautiful scenes in movie history, and I love how you get the full picture of the story and that it doesn't just end with him finding her and getting married. I think my favourite song though is Tell Him That it Wasn't Love. The power in her voice makes me cry every time.
I've loved watching this since a tiny kiddo. I dearly love the old King. He is my favorite character from any movie with his good old fashioned humour. But I have to give applause to the whole cast and especially the people in charge of costumes and dance!
This Cinderella movie - the absolute best!! - accompanied me throughout my youth in the 19-eightees. I sat infront of the TV with my tape recorder and recorded the songs. It was only years later that the soundtrack was published. Sherman & Sherman Brothers at their very best! Richard Chamberlain and Gemma - just the perfect couple!
This is my first time watching this movie and I immediately fall in love with it. It has its very own magical and unique charm. I love the whole cast of this movie. I love the music, the dancing ball, ball gowns, etc. Cinderella is beautiful and let's not forget the prince. *sigh dreamily* He's sweet, gentle and handsome. Thank you for posting this. I really had a great time watching it.
I remember watching it as a Child together with my grandmother on VCR like 2 a Day 7 days a week when i go on holidays at my grandparentshouse... this was her favorite movie and mine and still is. What beautyful memories ♡ One of the most underrated cinderella movies when it's Just perfection ♡♡♡♡
Yes! My favourite Cinderella film ! I first discovered this in my youth and have loved it since. Thank you for the upload. Beautiful Gemma with the lovely voice, Ditto Richard and Margaret Lockwood, looking still beautiful, in her last Film . The whole cast was wonderful. And the songs...'Tell him that it wasnt Love ' and 'I cant forget the melody '❤❤
I'm shedding tears watching this as I watched it growing up with my Grandmother and Grandfather whom I absolutely adored and still miss terribly, brilliant move, enjoy all ❤️❤️
Bella proprio!💯💢💢💢💢
I really really liked this version of the Cinderella story! I only wish Cinderella and the prince had interacted more, but aside from that, everything was great!
She didn't notice when the magic shoes appeared on her feet nor when she lost one. Anyone would notice a missing shoe running down stairs. Ever after with Drew Barrymore & Angelica Houston is my favorite version.
Hat nie mehr so ein schönes Cinderella gegeben wie mit diesen großartigen Schauspielern😍einfach nur schön. Und der Humor kommt auch nicht zu kurz, PERFEKT, Danke👍👍👍👍👍💝
I was so addicted to this movie when I first saw it in the theatre over 40years ago even then we went back to see it 8x loved it then and love it now ❤❤
I waited a lifetime for somone to sing 'Rainbows raced across the room'. Glorious. My most favourite Cinderella version. Brilliant soundtrack with memorable songs.
Came back here after the creative travesty that is Amazon's 2021 adaptation. Not the worst movie, but certainly not made with the love and attention that this one was. I think this, Rodgers/Hammerstein and Ever After are better and more engaging than other versions. Thank you for cleansing my eyes. 😃
What a superb musical!! Stellar cast. Marvellous lyrics. Just everything. I never saw this version ever before. What a treat for all senses. Will certainly watch again. Bravo!! Thank you so much for sharing 👏👏👏👏🙏💖
I loved how the dresses and the ball gowns and basically all of their costumes look here than the live remake Disney did. They look more accurate than they did in the Disney remake with their white wigs. And the humor in here! I live for the humor here, especially the king's. Edit: So after watching a few reviews on TH-cam and watching the [the Disney remake] thrice, my opinion about it changed. That film was set on a completely fictional world, and I understand why it's more modernized in the costume section now. That's all, lol.
I think Disney’s cinderella is set somewhere in the 19th century even in the animated version. This one is purely the 18th century and is mentioned in the royal tombs if u looked closely at the year
Rainbows raced around the room when he danced with me Shooting stars began to zoom when he danced with me In his arms I was ascending My world became a magic blending Of dreams and hopes and love When he danced with me❤
Yep out of all these characters I feel most like the fairy godmother...sassy, magical and will in older age be surrounded by a vast array of animals. I also complain about the amount of work I have to do...lol
The costumes are so magnificent especially the prince's costumes. Richard Chamberlain looks so breathtakingly handsome, tall, dashing and royal in those costumes. He is made to wear those.
it was soooo nice thank you the 1 moment I think: oh what; theres singing.... but then I do préfère it for all ( Cinderellas;-)) 😊 lovely made + 4laught .. and I never see Rich. Chamberlane ashere, singing and dancing, joking 😉
One of the best musicals ever. I don't understand why it is not as famous as "the sound of music", etc... And the comedy in this film is Gold!!
Unfortunately, it was not as well received as previous musicals. However it has aged well, I first watched it when I was about 7. I am now over 40 (but I won't say by how much!)
Agree.
My favorite cinderella version. The movie made me laugh, sing, cry, and happy.
Same here sister 😂😃🥰

My sentiments exactly!
Yup
I have never seen this before. The whole family of the prince is outrageous. I love it.
I love how Cinderella never asks for a man all she asks is for a dress and a night off
Watching this in 2020.
Still is my favorite Cinderella movie.
Beautiful dresses, humorous, and beautiful actors.
This movie should defenitely be more famous!
I love it.
And how I love Richard Chamberlain❤

I loved this film as a child, but did not realise how funny it is until I was an adult.
My best scene- " so we must be protocorigorically correct" dance scenes

Edith Evans was almost 88 when this was filmed, and died in the year of its release.
the singing, dancing, wonderful, charming, handsome Richard Chamberlain ❤
Superb musical! So beautiful songs!And..Chamberlain in his prime was one of the most handsome males in cinema history!
My favourite movie when I was a child. I’ve seen it so many times and it never gets old
This musical is brilliant.

Correct. Old movies are better than new ones.
One of my favorite movies of all time, I saw this the first time about, wow about 20+ yrs ago. The music, costumes and acting was wonderful
I saw this movie on TV when I was a kid at Christmas...It sure brings back a lot of happy memories!

This was my favorite movie too! I know it almost word for word.
WOW. Finally a copy of this movie where the lips are in sync with the sound. LOVE IT. Thank you for uploading M.C. Frank author
This is one of my favourite movies from the very first time I saw this movie and by far the best version ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite Cinderella!! I've always loved this version!!!
Thank you for doing us a community service! now to introduce my 6 year old daughter to this film so we can sing together!
Everything about this movie, with the exception of Cinderella's coach, was elaborate. The costumes were extraordinary!.
Virginia Baldwin the coach was not elaborate???
I've loved watching this since a tiny kiddo. I dearly love the old King. He is my favorite character from any movie with his good old fashioned humour. But I have to give applause to the whole cast and especially the people in charge of costumes and dance!
One of my favourite movies, watched this back in the 90's still a good classic movie. 😊
Very entertaining musical movie, it's been underrated, but no doubt this is a classic one.

I'm sorry that you lost them. But I am sure that they are watching over you.
i saw this as a young girl.. simply one of the best musicals of all time.. still listen and sing to it to this day
I love Richard as the romantic prince.
This is a movie which I'm never tired of watching♥️♥️
Same here.

First saw this Christmas 1982. Loved it. My only wish was that Cinderella make her Fairy Godmother a cup of tea!
ABSOLUTELY Fantastic. I loved every second of it.
Thank you!!!!! Best Cinderella ever!!!

I love how outrageous the cousin is. "Once you've made your choice, I will unleash myself". Ha.
And of course: "...I am not proud, I'm just desperate." Hehe
Cousin just gives it that extra fun 😆
He was also in the Tommy Steele movie Half A Sixpence.
Hat nie mehr so ein schönes Cinderella gegeben wie mit diesen großartigen Schauspielern😍einfach nur schön. Und der Humor kommt auch nicht zu kurz, PERFEKT, Danke👍👍👍👍👍💝

I think the King is played by the same actor as Bianca and Kathryn’s father in “The Taming of the Shrew”...
@@karenramnath9993 I'll check it out. Thanks 😊

Such a fun version of Cinderella!

I LOVE THIS MOVIE LOVE RICHARD CHAMEBERLIAN,
Fairy Godmother's voice reminded me of maggie smith and then i was imagining her in harry potter costume and giving a stern talking to cinderella.

Richard Chamberlain had such skinny legs the breeches look good 53:53. Men today over train and bulk up making the wearing of period costume absurd.
