  • In this video I cover two very related but separate topics. First one is dedicated to answering the question of when and where the last life forms are naturally going to form. The second topic is right at the end where I briefly talk about the last surviving extraterrestrials and the limits of survivability.
Intro, outro, and many other clips in the video were made with Space Engine.
    Music:
    1. Twin Musicom - At The Foot Of The Sphinx
    2. Kevin MacLeod - Martian Cowboy
    3. Kevin MacLeod - Ossuary 1 - A Beginning
    4. DL-Sounds - Mercury
    5. Audionautix - Atlantis
    6. Kevin MacLeod - Blue Sizzle
    7. Kevin MacLeod - Spacial Winds
    8. Kevin MacLeod - Metaphysik

I recently finished watching every video Dreksler has uploaded. This channel is awesome and deserves more views and subscribers. Some of the best and creative astronomy content around.

Very true. I just hope he doesn't lose motivation due to the dwindling view count. It will be a sad day when he eventually stops making videos.

Being a living or conscious entity at the end of the universe, rather newly evolved or descendant from an older species, sounds like an existential nightmare.

YES it does. Of course being the first civilization is too. Are we alone? Fermi's Paradox anyone? Someone has to be the first, in what has to eventually be (if not already) a universe or galaxy full of civilizations must be the first one to say, "Where is everyone?" I think it's inevitable for the first intelligent species. I just really hope its not us. On the other hand if it is, that's kinda cool. Maybe it will actually be OUR Van Neumann probes future civilations will find spread around the Galaxy letting them know they are NOT alone and avoiding the existential crisis we're currently going through.

Imagine the last species in the universe being the long descendants of humans living in aimlessly wandering space vessels in an empty, vast universe

pretty interesting and so profound in the end.
also original, i'd say, as i had never seen anything like that on any platform.
it really makes you think that in the end even the universe and all residual life on it will meet their demise (just like us).
    greetings from sardinia

I think with the Sonar it is possible to see only the shape of the object and the distance to it, but details like colour, texture, microscopic structures would require a source of light and eyes to be able to be studied. Without eyes it is unlikely that an alien apecies will even get to the technology to make optical instruments by themselves as well as other technologies.

Exactly. Life in the universe will look very similar to our own. Convergent evolution is simply the most efficient way that nature adapts. Hands can have many fingers, arms must be sturdy, like with bone. Soft tentacles are no good for repetitive, fast movement used for tool making or mining, carrying things. Only social species can evolve into intelligent creatures.

Perhaps during the last stages of the Universe humanity will develop in such a way as to evolve into non-matter aka pure spirit creatures. I have no idea. This is just a thought. Once that happens perhaps humanity will literally shake hands with GOD though never on an equal basis. 😇
