Well said! I agree that as long as you have a goal you are chasing, whether it is provided by the modpack itself or by yourself, then you will probably stay motivated. I think it is also important to identify friction points that come up and try deal with them as soon as possible. They are usually pretty subtle, but can pile up, and before you know it... you don't want to play the world anymore even if you still have a goal in mind.

Precisely! The fact that you have held on to your LP world for so long is very impressive. I still remember you creating the world, and even before that on Chocolate Island. Your world at this point is timeless. I have loved following the journey with you as you have developed it into the sprawling world of unfinished projects we know today haha :D Really though, I appreciate you checking out the video. I always look forward to yours, and your steak tutorial was useful this evening. Keep being awesome Etho!

Best way I have found to complete a mod pack, is to do a play through using cheats first, and use that play through to learn what is important to prioritize in the mod pack. Then do a normal play through.

Okay your castle is really cool. I keep falling into the stereotype of sanctioned areas independent of each other like labeled drawers, and the idea of making a castle a high tech control center with specialized architecture like in a normal castle but for the specialized tech is a rad concept. I am thinking a modern parody of old and well functioning systems breathing an interesting take on things. Makes me wonder what a trade route would look like with mining turtles, or other weird stuff that throws out maximum efficiency by having it adhere to a theme, rather than just the building itself being themed.

Grian has some good videos for aesthetics in minecraft. Could be work checking him out. Might also be better to build your base in modules. For me knowing how much space you will need for the rest of the modpack, making it look good, and building it all is overwhelming. Doing a bit at a time could be less overwhelming. Might also be worthwhile to admit when a base isn't working out in a world, starting a new one somewhere else, and them moving all your stuff there.

Maybe it's just me, but I loved your vanilla collection project base the most. The block palette was the most cut back and subdued, leading to great comfy scenes, the buildings were seperate but connected in with each other, and because of the limitations of no mods I saw you using blocks in more creative ways like trapdoors as walls, the azalea bushes as flooring with the moss and stuff. As always kep up the great work Three!

    An absolute amazing video,
You mentioned in the video that at various points there is a step up in quality of video production. In my opinion you can notice in every episode, each episode gets better and better than the last. In terms of editing, building, gameplay in general and quite frankly quality. All your episodes are genuinly a pleasure for me to watch. Even though Inferno isnt my type of pack, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching, I originally came for the minecraft, I am staying for you.

I really like your videos and have started watching them from the middle of your atm7 playthrough! Although I still haven't understood the concept of base building. Your builds are extremely beautiful and really make me want to continue playing modded minecraft, but I still haven't worked out the basic stuff. How do you do the height variation? How do you work out a good color palette out of hundreds of different blocks that come from different mods? How do you separate the rooms so everything doesn't get clumped up in one space? How do you make every hallway so exiting instead of being extremely linear? And do you like to work with odd or even symmetry lines? I really hope you answer some of these questions and even if you don't I'm really exited for the next mod you're going to take on! Good luck with whatever you're going to take on, as I will always tune in to your videos! Edit: I liked the most your Divine Journey 2 base as it was so HUGE!

Look, I'm not super good but I do have some advice.
      1. test in a creative world: look at some of the options you have and look at what you can do.
      2. add depth: archways, windowsills, and pillars can add lots of depth to your builds.
      3. stick with a theme: try to stay with a theme per area, this can help narrow down ideas that might not fit.
      4. look for inspiration: look at art, games, buildings, and other media.
      5. take your time: don't rush yourself you've got time.

I usually play for a week or so and even if I enjoy the pack a lot, I quickly get tired of the grind, oh I need more X ore for the 100th time or something, spend the next 2 hours mining and looking for it. It's either that or extremely slow automation which happens in some Skyblock packs

Im curious, have you considered playing Sevtech Ages? Why or why not?
Theres just something so boring about spawning in, digging into the side of a mountain and planting magical crops that completely negate the "mine" part of "minecraft". Atleast with quarries, SOMETHING was mining the resources out of the world. With mods like Create, you can make massive world drills that are far more interesting than, say, taming a teal bee and have it make "diamond combs". It seems like with a lot of these modpacks, the end goal is basically to get to creative mode. I don't really find that at all interesting, because then the goal switches from building things because you *should*, to just building things because you *could*, so its still hard for me to complete packs. If I just want to sit in a base and tech up, Satisfactory and Factorio both scratch the itch. Maybe you find it interesting just as a puzzle solving game?
Modded minecraft, most of the time, doesn't give you any validation outside completing objectives for the sake of completing objectives. I almost always make my base near a village, because defending it from raids and hostile mobs is atleast something interesting to do that isn't purely just amassing materials for the hell of it.

I've been playing modded MC since 2012. There have been countless packs I've never finished. I'd say most. As an INFP I dream of finishing all of these with epic base builds, but I can definitely agree with one of your points that, if you don't like the look of your base, then your motivation for playing is going to drop off. And thats where I fail, 100% of the time. Its just becomes a jumbled mess, I don't know how to improve, and I start to look at everything else as chore. I think if I could emulate your type of builds, the interest would stick around a LOT longer.
So I ask you, PLEASE do a video tutorial on your point of view of base building.
How does one go about building a huge base?
Should we piece it together? How?
Should we lay it out all at once?
How do you literely go about figuring where a room for thaumcraft should be vs mekanism vs your bedroom/livingroom/kitchen(if you have any)? Is it just random?
Is a lot of your base building random? Like, lets throw in a wall/staircase.... here and "see where things go"?
    Thank you!!

The first big modpack i was getting into the endgame was ATM. I hopped on everyday after work and spent my time exlporing new mods and having fun to figure out how to automate and how difrrent mods work. I even was getting somewhat close to the atm star, until the server I played on resetted the world. It hapend out of nowhere and my motivation sunk in lightnig speed. The promise of the owner to provide us with the world map never got fulfilled so I couldnt even finish what i've begun offline.
I just cant get the same amount of motivaton on offline servers, neither do I want to play on servers anymore after learning how much restriction there exists between diffrent servers.

3:03 i have to strongly disagree there. Netherbrick and stonebrick are a top notch palete combination. In my old Better than wolves run, the nether fortress i centerd my nether operations arround had all the floor replaced by stonebrick and it looks great. I did it for gameplay reasons(in that mod, nether mobs only spawn on netherrack and netherbrick and completely ignore light levels) but i was really happy with the result.
To this day. Better than Wolves is still the most fun i've ever had with minecraft. It's like a hardcore vanilla plus on steroids experience. Like an alternate future of what the game could have become, more centered arround difficult survival mechanics and some interesting automation puzzles that are closer to what now the create mod is doing than the average IC/Buildcraft descendants modded minecraft experience. And it does all of that while taking advantage of vanilla features instead of reinventing the wheel. So you will use water currents to move items and pistons to harvest crops. All the "machines" have to be build in world from simple blocks and be controlled with redstone circuits in a very elegant way. So you play more building rather than in the crafting grid. It's a bit sad that after 11 years of development the author retired without finishing the polish of the end game due to health reasons. But despite not having a final challenge or goal. It's still a great mod and a lot of fun. The community has picked the mantle and it's polishing the few rough edges the author left. So it's even easier to recomend if you want a challenging but fair survival game with lots of care put to it's balance and some interesting and unique gameplay you won't find elsewere.

For myself, the problem is the culpability. I really love playing modded minecraft and put in place complexe machinery but I feel like I don't have enough time with school for doing it. So I'm culpabilising since I have the impression to be inefficient and for not advancing

Honestly your reason for youtube playing, that is, just playing the games, makes it really clear that you're exactly the channel I wanna watch. Like, there's a real feeling of like "You're watching your friend play this game" to it, it's very cozy, in a way, haha. It's earnest gameplay of someone who's having a great time most of the time, and it's fun to sorta share the ups and downs and get to know your bases as you build them. Like, when I rewatch your series, it's always a lot of fun knowing what the end result is and re-seeing how you get there with that finished image in mind. In some, like early Divine Journey, it can really throw you for a loop, haha.

I've just foundyour channel through this video, and I wish I'd found it sooner. All of my modded bases pale in comparison of size, beauty, and progress to the ones you've shown here. In recent months, I've started to get bored of modpacks very quickly, but seeing these bases has given me inspiration. I tend to speed through the questbook, forgetting to enjoy myself along the way. I end up with a base that consists of a few machines running out of power in a cave, and I give up when I realize I should have been making a proper base. I'm in the middle of a FTB Stoneblock 3 playthough right now, and I think I'll apply some of your advice to my base. Thank you!

Hey there, I came here since the start of your Inferno modpack and I had a blast watching it. I really think you deserve more subs then most people with even 1 milion subs!
I am sure your channel will blossom the more modpacks you do, I love your style of edditing your footage whilst leaving the raw footage on another channel for those interested. Livestreams are a blast as well to watch. The way you explain certain modpacks and on how they work were also easy to follow and led me to play inferno myself too! It really is a blast playing through the pack, I am aiming to get the minecolony to really be self sufficient and fully upgraded to everything tier 5. Like making a whole city as if I would be playing cities skylines or something! hahaha
Keep up the amazing content mate, also love your accent when you talk very relaxing to listen too

For me my favorite one of your base is definitely still DJ2. Because it reminds me of the fun time following through the series from start to end. Modded minecraft is really an awesome game. I think its also one of the few games that I would say its equally fun to watch someone else play as it is to play it ourselves. Sometimes it's even more fun to watch a series simply because some of us really dont have the time to invest on a modpack. Looking forward to more and better series in the future. Been a pleasure to have seen your channel and content progressed since the beginning 😊👍

Nice Video. I've always asked the question, "How do you play modded minecraft" especially without quests. I always found myself lost on how to start. I took a long break from minecraft literally from 1.12.2 and started back in 1.20.2. I have to re-learn all the new mod packs and how they function. I could never find myself progressing past the early stages because of building. Skyblock has always been my favorite type of modpack due to the fact it has less lag vs generating a whole world. I'm a huge fan of Project Ozone 3 and it sucked that a 4th iteration wasn't created. Now I heard there is a new 1.18 Project No Zone.

I personally have recently moved from Vanilla to modded. Thanks to one of my friends attempting to put together their own "from-scratch" pack. I have always had an inkling for trying it out, but had no real reason to push through, until I came across a series put together by another channel. Then through them I had found you. You were the first time I had ever heard about GT:NH, and I was psyched about trying it out... Until I saw what Greg really did. So I decided to look at the first real pack that I wanted to experience, which is suggested below. All I can say is, thank you for pushing the limits of my comfort to a point that has allowed me to truly motivate myself to experience Modded Minecraft. While you may not be the only one influencing me to play, you are definitely the most collected and calm personality that I have started keeping an eye on.
Keep on playing, but please take breaks when you need them. Notch knows that you'll need it the next time you take on a huge pack. I can't wait to see what you've got going on next!
I have a suggestion for a modpack that I have personally found interesting because it mixes two of my favorite games. 1.12.2's "Feed the Factory" by Vnator (or Vinator, can't remember the proper spelling). It's a Factorio styled pack, mixed for Minecraft. You've got custom recipes, "research packs" and all sorts of high-power automation. The obvious goal is to get the Quantum Research and unlock the things that would allow to basically generate functionally-infinite materials and components. But my personal goal for it, is to be able to request literally anything and make an infinite amount of any research I need. I know that's a rather large goal, but it is a great "completion" goal that works with my mind.

Just came across this, i have been a modded player for the past few years and i really love a lot of the packs you made a video about. However, since i have a very low end pc(about 6 gb free ram) i am unable to play most modpacks efficiently which upset me. Are there any low requirement modpacks that anybody can recommend to me? Optionally some not very famous ones as i am already aware of a lot of the popular lite/low end modpacks and either finished or played them. Currently i am playing through divine journey 2 (which somehow is playable) but i doubt that i can go far on that since it started to lag after i had made around 5 chunks load. İt is still very playable since i am getting a decent fps compared to all other modpacks i tried but i believe as i keep progressing and need more loaded chunks at one point it is going to be unplayable.

Definitely giving motivation again. I've always designated DDSS as my "long-term" pack. Due to life, it's been put on hold, but this video definitely reinforces my desire to play it. It's my first real attempt at completing a modpack and actually trying to build, not just have a flat surface.

I've struggled with packs, I want to complete something, anything, but man. It's hard to put my finger on exactly what stops me overall. It's gotten especially frustrating lately because I've found some packs I really like- except for specific quirks that make it so frustrating to progress.
Mechanical Mastery (and MM Plus) really started to click for me, but use of specific mods (and HAVING to use those mods) nuked my motivation. For MM, it was Create (I enjoy create but it can be so clunky to set up that I've started to actively avoid it), and for MM+, it was use of the Admin Shop over ProjectE, because I just find the admin shop so, so much more frustrating to use. There's a relatively new pack called Berseria Sky that I really love the vibe of, but its progression crosses the line of 'somewhat tedious grind' to 'absolutely OBNOXIOUS and unnecessary grind' so far that I really can't bring myself to keep going.
I do think part of my issue is that I'm a chronic 'new world' starter. I drop the pack for a bit, can't remember where I was or what I was doing, so I start over, since I know better ways to progress anyway. It's definitely resulted in me having issues with keeping motivation in pack starts since I play Skyblock almost exclusively for Reasons and a lot of Skyblocks have basically the same start. Staring at Sieves drives me bonkers, and far too many have you grinding out that early sieving for far, far too long. I've considered making a modpack myself, and that's definitely the first thing I want to avoid if I do manage to make one. CobbleForDays is a godsend.

One of the issue I often face with really hard mod packs that has a big hit to my motivation for pushing to the finish line is performance issues in the end game. With large bases, tons of farm/setups/automations/etc the server always starts lagging behind which lead to a much worse gameplay experience.

Man I’m in such a tough spot with my modpack because it’s a homebrew I put together four-five years ago just before I started college and I couldn’t keep up with it into my third and fourth years of school. That means I have an unfinished 1.12 pack that is my pride and joy, but have this feeling that I’m missing out not being able to do other packs or 1.16 packs. What do yall think, should I just push through to the end now that I’ve graduated?

Just found your channel and it reminded me of all the time I spent on various modpacks, starting from Infitech 2 on 1.7.10 and the pre-fusion chrome grind everytime GT5u shows up (I am so glad with the changes in GT packs moving to GTCE). Your first E2E base is already orders of magnitude more aesthetically pleasing than mine which is basically a 5x5 chunk hole all the way to bedrock. I did not even build ceilings for a large part of the base, just exposed AE cables.
I would say an important factor of motivation that you did not mention is the actual modpack design itself. Certain packs are not very well designed and could in fact lead of higher abundance rate. Personally, I think modpacks should avoid difficulty wall (a sudden unavoidable increase in grindiness/difficulty just to progress) and strive for a smooth curve that ramps up the grinding and difficulty gradually, and reward progression into a new "age" with either a new set of challenges and tools or a much much simpler recipe as the starting point for the new "age" once you started it (basically making the first of an item/machine is difficult but the 2nd and beyond are much easier because of the first).
3 infamous examples of difficulty wall are: the Bronze Best Friend in GT5u, the pre-fusion chrome grind in GT5u (these 2 plagued a lot of GT packs in 1.7.10), and Divine Journey 1 requires millions of obsidian blocks farmed from Mystic Agriculture that would take IRL years even with tick accelerators and top-of-the-line computer hardware (I remember a reddit post calculating this).
On the other hand E2E and Nomnifactory are very well designed and give relatively smooth difficulty curves. They either introduce new elements and mods gradually in the case of E2E, or gives exponentially more efficient recipes of the same item (Transistor-IC-SMD-SoC circuit progression which in fact is based on real world technological progression) in the case of Nomni.

just uninstalled Forever Stranded after like 3 days, I got sad and distressed of how things would take so many steps and many basic ones, like, redstone is primarily obtainable by sifting dust and the process to just getting the dust is another headache, I wished the quests would help me automate these starting things so i could get my head on learning other things, start learning a mod for a quest line, but it didn't. So, i essentially discovered after all that time there was a automatic sifter so i tried making it, I did it, but the migrane that was getting to it was inexplicable, i made 2 machines from thermal expansion, started the engineering one desperately trying to get that damned thing. After getting it and testing, it required way to much power than i had at the moment and it destroyed me. I'll move on to another modpack in search of a fresh start, maybe someday i'll get back to Forever Stranded.

I love that many of these older modpacks are still getting active updates: GTNH, Omnifactory->Nomifactory, Enigmatica 2: Expert -> Enigmatica 2: Expert - Extended, Divine Journey 2... I just wish that FTB Interactions was still receiving updates, seeing as FTB has turned into a profit hungry corporation, it doesn't make business sense for them to endlessly maintain their own modpacks, so FTB modpacks have a short shelf life.

  • @StockaOfficial
    @StockaOfficial ปีที่แล้ว

My way of playing modpacks is like this:
-Start a world, get familiar with some of the mods (or use the mods you know from previous playthroughs)
-Build some efficient but kinda ugly farms (everything must be efficient and ugly)
-make a whole mess of the base, because there's cables everywhere
    -build a solid storage system
-get OP armor and stuff, basically become a god (you have all the items, you're basically invincible)
-get bored, because you basically entered creative mode.
-start a new modpack, get further, because you get better and faster at playing modded minecraft with each playthrough
-get hooked because of some mods (mainly create, thermal expansion combined with extra utilities 2, EnderIO, EvilCraft, Tinker's Construct (but don't use it, just build a smeltery and then use it like 5 times and don't get yourself any armor or tools, even tho you have hundreds of cobalt and ardite).
-get annoyed by some mods (that mod when you have to eat different foods)
-enter peaceful mode (no monsters, no hunger, no distractions)
    -repeat previous steps
    -get bored
-start a new modpack or continue in old one (or both)
    -relapse
I'm getting better and better at modded Minecraft, but I'm getting more and more impatient for building. I was never a builder. Once I tried to build something massive in Project Ozone 3, it seemed a bit too ugly, so i quit the modpack. When I don't build in modpacks, I don't get burnt out so easily, because I think that the machines are much more fun than building.
EDIT: You can call all my bases lawn bases. I just want to play with the mods and not get distracted by aesthetics.

For me personally, once I achieve infinite power, resources, and full automation I feel like I completed the modpack. Some packs have an end goal like ATM with the ATM trophy and once I get those I consider it completed. Though I did not get the ATM7TTS trophy before moving on which is always on my mind lol.
