Crafting a bed on your first day basically requires a nearby village or brick house Roguelike Dungeon entrance (those have a bed on the second floor, as well as a chest with some random loot), otherwise the amount of logs and wool you require to craft one is difficult to manage in so short a time with no tools to start with. Don't forget about cooking and eating a wide variety of food to gain more hearts! A Healing Axe will keep you going, but a varied diet will keep you *alive*. Especially in the Nether early on, when OP armor/weapons are scarce and options for quick healing even more so. And you have to visit the Nether to complete the Healing Axe quest for the Nether Gardens, might I add. Remember that GTNH is on version 1.7, so natural health regen is really slow. Laudanum's 10 seconds of Regen III is useful for backing off and getting back some health quickly, at the cost of being useless for those 10 seconds. Not something I would recommend relying on if you're taking on a Roguelike Dungeon, or in general for that matter. But it's something to use if you're desperate. ...Three. There was a bed *right there*. And carpets to craft more of them if you wanted. I'm just saying. The best early early game foods are the berry types that go into making Berry Medley (Rasp-, Blue-, Black-, Staw-, Cran- and Maloberry), Cantaloupes, and the foods that can be directly smelted into (very slightly) better food, namely Asparagus, Sweet Potato, Tea Leaf, Corn, Eggplant, Grapes and Rice (also Coconuts if you happen to have that fruit tree nearby). Anything you can juice is also good to plant, *especially* if you're near a snowy biome for snowballs. Though do beware Dire Wolves, if you are. Basic Stone Age lootbags, and to a lesser extent Steam Age lootbags, often give you food. There's no real point to saving them, so open them up and enjoy the free food. The What's That...? quest isn't necessary until you're ready to go to the Twilight Forest, so it can be ignored until then. It's worth it to study the different types of Special Mobs in this pack, as some of them have qualities that can make them go from "easy victory" to "certain death". Tough Spiders, in particular, are as their names suggest. Don't bother trying to engage with early game melee weapons, just run away. Something to keep in mind RE: Biome humidity is that outside of how much water a Railcraft Water Tank will produce it also determines whether a biome gets visible rainfall, and whether GT machines will catch fire and explode when left exposed to the rain. Yes, those are two separate things. IIRC Humidity of
Well you can craft a bed on your first day if you know what you need, but it’s quite hard. Definitely have to skip the quests for it. Silly there is a bunch of useless quests before the bed
