- The Canon 5D Mark 4 in 2023 is an interesting camera. The Canon 5D Mark IV is now 7 years old and many cameras have been releasaed since. So how does The Canon 5D MArk IV stack up in today's photography world? With the Canon R6 and the Canon R5 out, is Canon 5D Mark IV worth it in 2022?

Video wise, the 4K is 1.74 times crop, not an APSC crop. It’s 422 8bit in 4K too, unlike the 420 8bit in FHD.
Every camera and every camera system has its pros and cons. I believe for documentary work, the 5DIV can do a very nice job, mainly in FHD and with lots of compromise in 4K. Other than the large MJPG files, the rolling shutter is really bad, but for interviews, 4K could be a nice option to go with, specially with the Sigma 18-35 f1/1.8.

I have a 5D IV (and also a III) and continue to use it for professional jobs. Why? Why not. It takes beautiful photos, and I already have a variety of lenses for it. Newer cameras offer more advanced features, but I don't thing that they would improve my work. I may think differently if I was a sports photographer. I don't do much video work, so all is good.
I'm looking forward to adding the 5D4 to my kit. Love all the 5D series.

Found a 5D Mark IV recently and shot the opening of our Sunday School lesson with it. The rest is done with my C100 MKII & 90D. I’m still learning the editing stuff.

im thinking to get one the r6 is a bit too much for me and with the adapter alot of times some ef lenses the af does not work so and the 5d mark iv seems like the best camera i can afford and get good lenses, so i think ill go with that and i want a full frame camera and i prefer somethings thats built good also battery life is probably better than any mirrorless

the entire EF lineup post 2010 is killer, I can see me using an EF camera for the next several years what would cause me to leave is if the RF 200-800 was faster or if Sony released a lens over 600mm that was fast.
But I still can’t make up my mind on the choice. On the one hand, I want the p6 because of the technology, but on the other hand, the 5d is very similar to it. very difficult choice. and they are almost the same price as new ones.
Search and see what movies were shot on 5d mk2 mk3 mk4 7d. Some of the biggest movies were shot with these cameras.
Yep! I bought the canon 7d mark i because not only was it in my price range, but because they shot all the Avengers movie with it!

Good question... While it would level ut up the 4k is still super limited and is kind of the standard resolution to be shooting in these days.
The 5D IV lacks in the video department with today's world. Photo's are stunning. Not the quickest kid on the block, but for my needs, perfect. So! I'm getting more frustrated as time goes on, using this camera in video mode. Dreading the idea of learning a new camera, but I'm a handheld shooter, Too much work in post production. Yes, it's a tank and love the way it feels and it does just work, it really does. It's a everyday workhorse camera that you can trust. I'm an adventure photographer, so this camera has been banged around some. 1080p/30 video do look pretty good, but without IBIS and using f/2.8 lens (no IS), it's capabilities are limited. With all the EF 'L' glass I've acquired, I'm looking more-and-more at the R5. Being a slow learner, it will take time to dial it in, as they say.😊
Tbh the Mark IV is a photo first camera. You could of saved money and purchased a 80d or 90d
@@scionevotc I'm a hybrid shooter. Had a 90d before the 5D IV. Been using a R5 for the last couple months. My world has changed for the better, much better. DSLR's are dead unless you're old school and unwilling to change.

@@Twobarpsi i should be receiving it by may 30! BUT, i've used it before and the full frame shot opens up a whole new world for me. I'm so used to the 7D, it feels like im a professional photographer. Camera is bulky, which feels nice, and overall, i think it's going to take me to the next level. Im going to buy a canon 70-20mm f2.8 very soon. Can't wait.

a camera is made to take photographs. Video is something that less than 1% of casual photographers are interested in. The optical viewfinder will never be matched even with a billion dots ovf. The ergonomics of SLRs are something extraordinary. Battery life then, what are we talking about? The best photographers, the ones we study, shot film and with SLRs. Try to become passionate about photography and not technology... A DSLR is forever. A mirrorless will always have a better one technically the following year. But if you don't know how to shoot, save money. You will take good photos regardless of the camera you use...

My Mk III has finally died. I already own the all the EF F/2.8L zooms and the 100-400L and a couple of L primes.
I just shoot for myself these days, but still have my glass from my pro days. The Mk IV seems my only reasonable choice. It is hard to justify spending the money to replace all that glass to move up to the R5. (I know there are adapters, but still...)
I mean you just need one adapter, and the glass works the same (r6 owner)
This is a great camera. Unfortunately, Canon abandoned his OVF cameras. And for many reason I won't switch to EVF
