Roddy didn't need a belt, his balls alone hold up his kilt.

I always remember something Roddy's son Colt said in an interview. He said one piece of advice his dad gave him about wrestling, that his dad tried to follow, "I can't make the fans believe wrestling is real. All I can do is make fans believe I am real." That's one reason you never saw Roddy do many flips, or jumping moves. He preferred to stay on his feet like you would in a real fight. I think much of that came from his time learning from Gene LaBell in L.A.

B.M Sabol Naw, I think my favorite was when he asked Flair if "Nature Boy" had anything to do with Euell Gibbons.
As an aside, funny that Corny mentions Channel 5 in Cincinnati picking up Crockett's show. I'm pretty sure that in another clip, he stated that the GM of this same station previously told Jarrett and Lawler that they had zero interest in airing wrestling due to an exceedingly negative experience with The Sheik's Big Time Wrestling.

Piper was gold in GCW. I never saw such a heel like that on the mic. My favorite Piper era was early 80s with him pising off all the baby faces on GCW. Man he was incredible

The biggest pop at Hogan's birthday RAW was Piper. Exactly one year later I was in the same building for SD on the day of Piper's funeral. I still tear up when I think about that

  • @paulcarr3355

First time I saw Piper was his promos for Sawyer where he hung himself and broke a beer bottle to the head . It was before his legendary dog collar match against Greg Valentine . He became my fsvourite wrestler and as great as it was to see him make it big in the wwe , his early work was true brilliance and the fact he never put Hogan over while still making his own fame shows you how good he was . At Hogan's peak it would be unheard of to not put him over and ever be heard of again but Roddy knew how good of the heel antagonist he was to Hogan's all American gimmick .
Piper had it all and especially the psychology that is so missing today .
    R.i.p. ❤

Man....imagine Piper in the Andy Kaufman role in Memphis. No disrespect to Kaufman, he did a great job. But Piper as that type of the heel in Memphis at that time would have been gold. And the matches....they wouldn't have been Flair-Steamboat....but I could imagine they would have been wild with psychology and heat to the max.

Roddy was one of the absolute greats. He could damn sure talk & he was damn good in the ring. Roddy was tough as hell. Just watch him against Buzz Sawyer or Tommy Rich. Watch him put Hogan to sleep in 1996 when he was supposed to be done. Hogan never beat him, at least not straight up, I think that's always bothered Hogan. Puke Hogan will never be anywhere close to the Hot Rod.

Hot Rod is still my favorite wrestler and personality of all time. I've been a fan of pro wrestling since early 80's and very few have come close to his iconic presence and work both inside and outside of the ring. Always excited to watch his reactions and hear his verbal jabs. He was truly one of a kind, often imitated but never duplicated. 🤘🏻⚡🤘🏻

They worked together a handful of times in WWF. Surprised he wouldn’t remember the main event for Wrestlemania X Roddy was guest referee for Bret Hart vs Yoko with Cornette as one of the managers. Jim pulled Roddy out of the ring before hitting the 3 count, acted apologetic then Roddy decked him 😆
