+Josh Finley Yeah! That would be a unique and _interesting_ way to incorporate the metal foundry and mold, unlike recent videos. (Not sarcasm; I know it's hard to tell sometimes.)
Hi Thompson, Greetings from India. I am Josh. I really like your channel and have learnt a lot from it. Now here is what I am going to ask you! I recently came across this new self-defence weapon called Kubaton. I found it cool. But what if a fire-piston is made in the shape of a Kubaton. Then, it would double up as survival tool as well. I have seen your fire piston videos. So can you make a "fire piston Kubaton"? I believe it will be cool!
+Anonymous You responded literally, that's the opposite of "going along" with it. Don't trip though, it's hard to read tone through text. We've all misinterpreted sarcasm before.
Hey Grant, it is really great to see you doing the old diy style videos again. Honestly I was getting really burned out on the silicone molding stuff. Would love to see more content like this.
I have always wanted to have a machine that would work like this! I made rope in a camp setting as well, just enough to make a lanyard for my neck name plate, and the machine was similar to the manual ones you described, although with a front and back paddle to hold the winders, it made a decent machine. Your design for the dril-operated one is so efficient! I'm looking forward to watching the next videos on how to make long rope lengths by one person. Thanks!

Great stuff! In 1959 (I was 8) I did exactly this with a coping saw, wood and coat hanger wire and made some rope that my Mom kept until her death. My younger brother helped. I love your improvements!
Huge thanks! My boy needed to complete a requirement in Boy Scouts for the Pioneering Merit Badge, Requirement 6. He followed you video and completed his machine. We didn't create the second lift you did, but with a spreader and a little ingenuity at the end, he successfully made his own 8 ft rope! This was awesome. Really appreciate the video!
says 1 year ago (your post)......that would make it near the time of the celebration again. Keep it up for another 60 years and the very thought of Birthdays will have completely slipped your Mind!...never to be bothered by that idea for the rest of your life...
Wondering if a gear system would be more reliable than a belt system? Could 3d print 3 small gears that mesh around one larger gear in the center. Or use old bicycle gears, connected with a bike chain. That would make sure that all three turn at exactly the same speed, and there's no possibility of slip.
I have a 3d printer, and I cringed when he broke the wheel assembly to only get the plastic wheel part... And you would not need the washers with a 3D printed part most likely either.
What does this have to do with "fidget" at all? it's just a rope making machine. Also, I'm happy that you've started making stuff again, I was getting very bored with your liquid nitrogen, gummy stuff, and vacuum chamber experiments.
We made rope when I was in Scouts too probably using the same setup your Dad used. Binder twine seems to be the go to material to work with too. We started from corner to corner in the school gymnasium and were surprised how much it shortens as it twists up. Using twine the rope was secured into about 8" lengths that we each got to keep. Our rope ended up with a very square profile.
Your Dad is/was a smart guy. Catching those horses was likely his "End Game" not teaching you boys how to twist rope : ) Let's see what u got here... yep, that was fun.

Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" true. your setup definitely uses more accessible materials
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" that's why I like your videos. most of them you can try yourself with a few bucks and some know-how

I have a 3d printer, and I cringed when he broke the wheel assembly to only get the plastic wheel part... And you would not need the washers with a 3D printed part most likely either.

The problem with that is that most people don't have 3D printers, which would negate the idea of this being something that you can make yourself.
