    Pro tip: As you use a punch to dive your main bearings into place.. Don' hammer on the inner race. Only use the punch to the outer race to get it to settle into the case. Even taps around the whole outside.
    ALso use a shop Ball Peen Hammer for car work. Claw hammers are for houses and Lumber.

    Hey Cole, great video, you do need to remove the pinion gear though as the locking washer goes on after you install the pinion gear 👍

      Classic Mini DIY I’m not a TH-cam expert or someone you knows the business about recording stuff but sometimes it’s very hard to see thing with excelente quality! For that reason I’m thinking using direct light will help a lot improving your vloging quality! Another thing is saying the tork speck! It helps a lot!
      But by all means your videos are awesome and please keep up the good work!
      Cheers

    Fitting the bearings with a punch is not good engineering practice, the bearings need to be fitted square to the casing with pressure around the whole outer ring. I used 3/4 drive 1 7/8" socket and copper faced mallet. Worked well for both main bearings.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a perfect world with access to a press that would be the preferred method but its perfectly safe to install these bearings with a flat punch as long as you hit the center face of the bearing and not the outer ring, taking care to keep your punch on the face and not allowing it to jump into the ball bearings. The socket and mallet method is also a great way to do it as well!

      @@classicminidiy sorry to say but as an engineer since 1968 you never ever use the inner face on a ball bearing to tap in the bearing its always always the outer race face if you use the inner face you put the ball bearings under stress and they can fail

    Just a suggestion not a criticism but it might be easier to work out your lay shaft end float prior to installing the main shaft and gears.

      You know that makes a lot of sense. 🤔 thanks for the tip

    Where are you putting the the feeler guage after you've installed the pinion retainer as your arms in the way of shot. You say tolerance is .005

  • @darryl3392

    The lock tabs before you torque down those gears? Also what final drive is it?
    I know how you feel with the filming stuff. I had a play film with a GoPro but honestly didn’t feel like doing much with it as it consumes so much time when you just want to get stuck and get something finished.
    Great videos keep them coming👍

    very helpfull. but when checking the clearances you say "lets see if it fits in there" while you block the view completely with your hands :) so no idea where you checked it.. (I do have an idea where, but beginner-mecanics won't. apart from that, great video )

    • @marknoe9283
      @marknoe9283 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same, I could not see where the clearance was checked. Any idea?
      Still, superb and easy to understand videos.
