I think it had something to do with an update that I was doing and paused over the night and forget, when I got back in steam the downloads section was bugging out and when I first tried to log in that day I was in and loaded a game before it started locking me out making me think that it started to try and download that update again and got bugged because it was popping up with downloads at the bottom then disconnected me
running this as admin in compatibility tab really helped, steam will pitch a fit saying that having it in toggle on can cause issues but I dont think this is something to worry about personally.

Started getting this issue today, i noticed that when i opened steam an update was half finished. (Steam icon on taskbar was half green) Using step 4, adding -TCP was enough to let me open steam again.
i have tried all of the methods on youtube to solve my steam issue. i have a fresh install of steam and when i try to run it for the first it tries to search for updates for about 30 seconds then says not connected to network. i had somebody tell me i may have a Trojan virus but steam is the only thing that seems to have any issue. im using hot spot data on my pc and it is fast so i assume it should allow steam to update its files with no issue.
The issue is with android. I updated my android to Android 12 and now my computer doesn't like the hotspot. Even though my browsers work, steam will not work. Do not update to Android 12. It's crap
@@augfur all I did was restart my PC and internet at the same time. I, sometimes encounter this one once every 2 months. But all things work again after I restart my PC and my router. I hope it will work for you.
I'd just like to add that after all the steps I still couldn't get this to work. I use my mobile as my internet (mobile internet). I use USB tethering from my mobile to my PC. I restarted my mobile. I booted up Steam again and hey presto! it worked! I could also sign in to my Microsoft Account which I couldn't before I restarted my mobile. Thanks ever so much! I was tearing my hair out on this one!
Nothing worked. This fixed it for me, open cmd as admin and run these commands in this order: netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset, ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew, After this, restart pc and run steam as admin and -tcp in the launch box.
Holy shit it actually worked. My laptop is on its last legs and my Steam account has been working poorly for a few years now. But this is the first time it simply seems like there was no connection. The -TCP and administrator solution (also compatability mode, which was already on for some reason) fixed it!
My steam was connecting. But the game wasn't. Then I uninstalled the game. While I was downloading the game I noticed a very unstable Mbps . Then I did all of the above and the game started to download very stables. Hopefully it will fix my problem. Thanks. Very good video.
I did all these steps and it still said retry connection, after retrying 5-6 times I decided to revert all the changes in this video back to normal and then I tried to log in and it was successful (the 2nd try was successful)....not sure why Steam was doing this but I'm glad it was solved.
Did not work for me! Completed the steps then a box pops up asking if I want to allow steam to make changes. I click yes, the box goes away and nothing happens. Same thing if I click no. Help!
