Online is good but there needs to be a loss added to your record if you quit the game when your getting beaten, too many people leave just as your about to pin after using a finisher
No hate towards this game, its fun for what it is. I see the inspiration of the AKI games, but it doesn't play like one. Way more sloppy and all over the place in comparison to those old AKI N64 titles. Those games may have had their fair share of chaos in the ring as well, but it just felt right. The gameplay was SO much tighter and fluid. It just goes to show how great AKI was at their craft back then when it came to developing good wrestling games. Thats why the Def Jam games will always be the true spiritual successors in my book. Good video Matt!
Might actually have to get this. Haven't played WWE games since PS2 days apart from briefly trying the newer ones at my brother's place and being left confused. Great review!
I think extending the life of the game with good, well priced DLC like City Skylines is a more ethical way of selling sports games than 2k model of sports games with roster changes and little else every year for full price.
You know they say that all men are created equal, but you look at me and you look at Samoa Joe and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another wrestler, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, at beat me. Then you add Kurt Angle to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down. See the 3 way at Sacrifice, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but I, I got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Kurt Angle KNOWS he can't beat me and he's not even gonna try! So Samoa Joe, you take your 33 1/3 chance, minus my 25% chance and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at Sacrifice. But then you take my 75% chance of winning, if we was to go one on one, and then add 66 2/3 per cents, I got 141 2/3 chance of winning at Sacrifice. See Joe, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at Sacrifice.
5:00 I don't know about time-frames, but RVD was in SVR2011 (released in 2010) while working for TNA. not a 1:1 situation, but close enough to not be unheard of
It really is nice to play a wrestling game that actually has smooth gameplay. They could tweak pinfalls to make them .3 seconds slower per count, just to give tag matches more longevity since pinfalls are easily attained since it doesn't take much damage to keep their tag partner at bay in order to get the 1 2 3
I'm not entirely sold on the story mode either. While a more grounded story is fine for people who want to live the life vicariously, the off-the-wall and 100% kayfabe wackiness in 2K19 and especially 2K20 instantly became my favorite parts of those games, and the CAWs I made for those stories have persisted in my CAW stable in the later titles too. 2K20 went so far as to have unique entrance/victory/tag animations for the story characters, and I even appreciate seeing some of the fictional characters like Barron Blade and Cole Quinn when they reappear.
@@smittywjmj Agreed. Both games however kind of fail at recreating the games they base themselves off of (Here comes the Pain/No Mercy). So there's definitely room to grow for both. However, for the time being Fight Forever is just the side piece. Baron Blade Rulez
Jericho has a record similar to Cody Rhodes he was in WCW Mayhem and then WWF WrestleMania 2000 a month later. Raven also was in WCW Mayhem and then a four months later in ECW Hardcore Revolution.
I agree with your main criticism in that there just isn't enough content but that the gameplay itself is very fun. Tony Khan has talked about wanting to support it for years though and that Stadium Stampede battle royale mode could be very fun.
It nice to see wrestling game that looks fun to play vs making different wrestlers and have the cpu fight itself (which is what happens when I see a lot of people do with the recent WWE games). Not meaning to fully knock the WWE games, but I enjoyed the arcade style more than the simulation style.
First impressions on this from watching your video immediately reminded me of WCW VS NWO: World Tour on N64. Just the way the spirit bar works and stuff immediately brought me back. I haven't played a wrestling game in years, but I might actually give this one a try.
I only needed the first seven seconds. Oh, baby. I was all, what's Matt's version of this legendary intro going to look like? He's going to do it right, right? Did not disappoint.
I miss the PS2 Smackdown games where you could have men and women fight each other! During full CPU battles, the women would dominate the men ALL THE TIME. Poor Brock Lesnar
This game is so freaking fun man. The gameplay is so fantastic, but everything else's is middle of the road, but a ton of potential to get better with updates. The bones are pretty good and strong. This is a strong 7/10 game and i love it fod it.
Yeah, you're better off waiting for a sale or waiting until way more content is added. I bought the game on release and though the gameplay is really fun and enjoyable, everything else about the game is lackluster. It just all seems so limited given what games are capable of nowadays. Even lower budget games. I just wished that they didn't stick with trying to be No Mercy in nearly every aspect of the game.
The only sad part is that it took so long to make that the roster, factions and wrestler gimmicks are a bit different now so the game is about a year or so behind current AEW. Thank goodness for DLCs to some of the missed sign ups and stipulation matches. Hopefully Wembley will be an option for Fight Forever 2 and Forbidden Door with some New Japan Talent.
Loving the game so far. Not enjoying road to elite at all as none of it seems to lead up to anything. Turn on my partner. No payoff matches etc. if they continue to add options and details to the whole game over time I think it’ll be great
Man I love the game. I’ll be the first to tell you I don’t watch AEW don’t care for it but Ive been wanting to play a good wrestling game. I was not a fan of the game change from 2K19 to 2K22 granted 22 and 23 are decent but they are so unstable with it crashing 70% of the time and its loaded with folks who get so offended when you get 3 offensive moves in so they spam you with irreversible moves I don’t exactly call that fun but this AEW game is since I’m so familiar with the Aki games when I play online it’s typically really fun matches every once in awhile I get the one person who thinks they found the spam move lol but I just end up winning. I wish the caw mode had more depth but I honestly think its a good start for later games or to add on to this one. The one thing I’ll say for people on the fence about it id say wait for it to be on sale because in its current state isn’t worth the 60 bucks because its not exactly loaded with content to warrant the price
Not sure , how I think about this game .... I'm glad that we get finally something new , but on the other side it looks to simple to me. I have seen over 30 videos about AEW Fight Forever and most are too positive. The matches are in my opinon too short (most of the time even under 5 minutes) , the attacks does not looks impactful because the opponents get up too fast , the roster is way too small , in the battle royal are only 4 wrestlers (that makes it so easy to win this mode) , the blood disapears after a while , it's impossible to destroy the opponent that he/she is no more able to walk , the matches looks with not enough drama , it's too easy to win a ladder match , ... and the lack of many match types. Positive is : - that male can fight against females - that female wrestlers can bleed - a wrestler can own all titles and carry them while the entrance - the amount of blood - finally a wrestling game that is not a WWE game - win and loss statics while entrances To be honest , I was never a big fan of arcade like wrestling game , that the reason why I would give the AEW game 5 of 10 points. That is not bad because I would give even WWE 2K23 just 6 of 10 points because it's far from what I want to see in a good wrestling game.
I don't really watch wrestling anymore and the more recent wrestling games all kinda looked like they sucked to me so I'm really glad to see something like this that hearkens back to the older style of games.
Great Review, I don't agree with the full price. $40 at best I mean there's a $30 season pass. I would like to see 6 players or 8 in matches but no way like triple threat tornado tag team ladder matches except for my brother and I
@@WalkingCowboy I didn't want to turn my comment into a rant but most people would agree that the WWE games are not deserving the $60 price tag and yet AEW with less content is because it's new. How about this scenario, If an inspiration GoldenEye came out I would give it $40. Matt had released a game so he knows the hiccups in making one so he probably wasn't as hard on AEW.
@@georgeh4171 I can only think it's because bringing 6 wrestlers with their respective AI response has a complex development, even I remember that Smackdown Just Bring It brought 8 men simultaneously but that was removed until 16 years later with WWE 2K18

I don't understand why they didn't put some of the match types fans have been wanting in WWE games. Like Guest referee. I thought Yukes was looking to get back into wrestling before AEW was started
You are confusing Yukes and AKI. AKI turned into Syn Sophia, and they haven't touched wrestling since 2004, and as far as I know, has shown no interest in returning to it. As stated in the video, nobody that worked on old wrestling games is still with the company.

You are one of very few TH-camrs who have had positive things to say about this game especially the career mode. Now though its not the best and theres alot that needs to be done, the game does have potential. Thank you for being objective.
I played and I really liked it. It has a fun gameplay and a little more arcade, like the older SvR, and has some cool game modes too. I downloaded the pirated game just to try it out, when the game is on sale I'll get it. Here in Brazil, it's a pretty salty price in my opinion, even though it's in this Summer Sale.
I honestly hope they do a Smackdown vs RAW-esk title, mainly coz I'm more familiar with NJPW, but it still looks super sick. But I'd love to see AEWxNJPW as a game
Its not a full price game. It's a wait til discount season comes along game its a room to improve for sure For most a 7.5 / 10 So Far for me 7/10 ive haven't picked it up playing it again
This is probably the 5th or 6th review I've seen of this game and its funny to see the different reviewers tastes. Some of the people I've seen complain about the button mashing kick-out mention they prefer the 2K mini-games while this review noted the button mashing as a plus. Another reviewer completely savaged the Road to Elite story mode saying they didn't like the stories told while it tickled this reviewer's fancy. There really is no pleasing everyone.
I've been having a blast playing the game. I almost didn't even need to pay attention to William Regal's control tips because the controls work almost exactly the same

That fucking intro is a masterpiece

I don't know about time-frames, but RVD was in SVR2011 (released in 2010) while working for TNA. not a 1:1 situation, but close enough to not be unheard of
The question wasn't about being in a different company at the time of a game's release, but appearing in different companies' games.
It happened with Bret Hart. He was in WCW and he appeared in the latest WWF game and WCW game that came out around the same time
It really is nice to play a wrestling game that actually has smooth gameplay. They could tweak pinfalls to make them .3 seconds slower per count, just to give tag matches more longevity since pinfalls are easily attained since it doesn't take much damage to keep their tag partner at bay in order to get the 1 2 3
I love MJF's random reaction to Aldi pickles 🤣
Hoping they add more outfit/bodytypes/faces for CAWs. Thats the main draw for wrestling games for me. Until then its a pass for me.
Valid criticism. I got it and was really disappointed by the lack assets for CAWs. Hope they No Man Sky this
I'm not entirely sold on the story mode either.
Yeah, more wrestling game reviews. Wrestling games fucking rule.
Jericho has a record similar to Cody Rhodes he was in WCW Mayhem and then WWF WrestleMania 2000 a month later. Raven also was in WCW Mayhem and then a four months later in ECW Hardcore Revolution.
PLAY FOREVER! *clap clap clap* PLAY FOREVER! *clap clap clap* PLAY FOR-- no wait, wth. I bought other games to play as well.
I’m really hoping we get an ROH Pack DLC. Would be a great addition to the roster as well as the belts and arenas.
Can't wait till Virtual Basements game to come out, that legitimately excites me.
I'm not gonna lie, this game does look incredibly fun for the most part.
I agree with your main criticism in that there just isn't enough content but that the gameplay itself is very fun. Tony Khan has talked about wanting to support it for years though and that Stadium Stampede battle royale mode could be very fun.
That intro refferencing saturday night slammasters hands down the best. ;)
It nice to see wrestling game that looks fun to play vs making different wrestlers and have the cpu fight itself (which is what happens when I see a lot of people do with the recent WWE games). Not meaning to fully knock the WWE games, but I enjoyed the arcade style more than the simulation style.
Ah a Hookhausen fan. A man of taste.
5:25 ON GAWD I THOUGHT MY 📞 WAS BUFFERING 😂😂😂 good sh¡t dawg lol
I miss the PS2 Smackdown games where you could have men and women fight each other!
During full CPU battles, the women would dominate the men ALL THE TIME. Poor Brock Lesnar
Fortunately you can do that in this game.
This game is so freaking fun man. The gameplay is so fantastic, but everything else's is middle of the road, but a ton of potential to get better with updates.
The bones are pretty good and strong. This is a strong 7/10 game and i love it fod it.
Great review. I still think it's a bit pricey for what it is but I'll definitely pick it up when it hits the ~$40 mark during a sale.
agree my man I will 100% be purchasing it when they lower the price point
What a mark
same here
Yeah, you're better off waiting for a sale or waiting until way more content is added. I bought the game on release and though the gameplay is really fun and enjoyable, everything else about the game is lackluster. It just all seems so limited given what games are capable of nowadays. Even lower budget games. I just wished that they didn't stick with trying to be No Mercy in nearly every aspect of the game.
@@artofchangno mercy had way more even then… AEW is fun but bare bones af for now
The only sad part is that it took so long to make that the roster, factions and wrestler gimmicks are a bit different now so the game is about a year or so behind current AEW.
No payoff matches etc. if they continue to add options and details to the whole game over time I think it’ll be great
I can’t unsee Johnny Swinger when I look at your character. It’s the facial hair/glasses/headwear combo.
Hold the phone, how can we actually get Matt to be all elite
He better ask his All Elite buddy Justin Wong
Positive is :
- that male can fight against females
- that female wrestlers can bleed
- a wrestler can own all titles and carry them while the entrance
- the amount of blood
- finally a wrestling game that is not a WWE game
- win and loss statics while entrances
To be honest , I was never a big fan of arcade like wrestling game , that the reason why I would give the AEW game 5 of 10 points.
That is not bad because I would give even WWE 2K23 just 6 of 10 points because it's far from what I want to see in a good wrestling game.
My honest review I keep error codes every time I try to play Road To elite with my CAW why is that
The game got hella potential be a great game I love playing it
I don't really watch wrestling anymore and the more recent wrestling games all kinda looked like they sucked to me so I'm really glad to see something like this that hearkens back to the older style of games.
Great Review, I don't agree with the full price. $40 at best I mean there's a $30 season pass. I would like to see 6 players or 8 in matches but no way like triple threat tornado tag team ladder matches except for my brother and I
For the moment the "cheaper" way is getting the Elite Edition of the game, it's like buying base game plus $20 season pass
Might need a what happened on this soon
That sure is a lot of Fire Pro Wrestling match music playing in the background there. 👍
Saturday night slam masters intro for the W! 🔥
Wasn't the first dlc pack announced at two characters and two mini games for like $10?
Sounds like wait till I get to use copy with all the DLC for like 30 bucks
When Scott Steiner popped up I lost it 😂
This looks fun. What I would give, though, for Firepro Wrestling on the Switch...
hahahahahaha I LOVED THE INTRO! And please cover more wrestling games :)
thumbnail got me acting up
“He’s fat!” Poor Joe lmao
The farty Pyro is unlockable in the game.
Addictive is an understatement I called out of work just to play this game! 😂
I can accept that a lot of modes and match types are still in the works, but the CAW really is just straight up lacking. I couldn't even find any cowboy boots for my guy's street wear. They even have a cowboy HAT, but no boots? C'mon now.
It's obvious that 'The Acclaimed' will be future DLC. They're too over.
For real authenticity, William Regal should've interupted your review a few times to tell me how TH-cam works.
It would be nice that the folks at yukes and thq could make more DLC to add to the game over time.
They are.
Yoooooo I seen that nrs put “kombat time” as a Johnny cage taunt and it made me immediately think of kombat time by the mighty Matt McMuscles!!!! Woooo!!!!!!
Hey man been coming back watching videos on TH-cam again lol hopefully you’d read this but I was thinking maybe you could do What Happen about The Callisto Protocol (maybe it’s to early?)
Dude...Wrestling Bios is a god amoung men
No way, The Acclaimed aren't in the base game? Gonna make them Season 2 Pre-Order Only DLC or something?
Apparently they've been confirmed as DLC at some point.
I haven't seen a lot of AEW, but I almost want to pick this up just because it has Owen Hart.
You are one of very few TH-camrs who have had positive things to say about this game especially the career mode. Now though its not the best and theres alot that needs to be done, the game does have potential. Thank you for being objective.
I’m still waiting for a more fleshed out version of 2k17’s career mode
Maffew's Mate Should Absolutely be in the Game
I played and I really liked it. It has a fun gameplay and a little more arcade, like the older SvR, and has some cool game modes too.
I downloaded the pirated game just to try it out, when the game is on sale I'll get it. Here in Brazil, it's a pretty salty price in my opinion, even though it's in this Summer Sale.
I honestly hope they do a Smackdown vs RAW-esk title, mainly coz I'm more familiar with NJPW, but it still looks super sick. But I'd love to see AEWxNJPW as a game
The intro unlocked a hidden memory 😂
Its not a full price game. It's a wait til discount season comes along game
its a room to improve for sure
For most a 7.5 / 10
So Far for me 7/10 ive haven't picked it up playing it again
This is probably the 5th or 6th review I've seen of this game and its funny to see the different reviewers tastes. Some of the people I've seen complain about the button mashing kick-out mention they prefer the 2K mini-games while this review noted the button mashing as a plus. Another reviewer completely savaged the Road to Elite story mode saying they didn't like the stories told while it tickled this reviewer's fancy. There really is no pleasing everyone.
Matt McMuscles video with Wrestlers on stage, and Yipes and Rynge in the background. You don't get much more FGC than that.
Every time Matt says "No Mercy," I keep expecting to see the ameteur that is you.
The gameplay reminds me of the Aki games but def can clean up a few things and we should be able to go to ropes in a submission
I've been having a blast playing the game. I almost didn't even need to pay attention to William Regal's control tips because the controls work almost exactly the same
Thanks for the review I was already strongly considering buying it but I'm getting it for sure now
Online on pc has been a total nightmare of sync issues. Unplayable. Been sticking to replaying RTE with different wrestlers
