@@EZOnTheEyes 2K22 is actually pretty solid. They put some modes back in that people had been missing but also stuffed in an unnecessary card collecting game like every other sports franchise. The roster was interesting because of all of the cuts. Not perfect, but a massive improvement.

Well I hope they do better. These games can be pretty fun when they work correctly. I'm still just playing 2k18 I think that one is alright for what it is if you want a wrestling game with a pretty big roster, and it usually works fine most of the time for me.

UPDATE: On January 1, 2020 the game became completely unplayable due to a calendar-related bug which cause most game modes to instantly crash. On the bright side 2K released a patch fixing the issue on the same day, but still, LMAO
The game just got hit by the Y2K virus.

Edge always came off as someone who was willing to help fans.
On a NewLegacyInc stream where Johnny talks about his trip to vegas for a 2k20 event you get a real sense of how awful this game must have been to work on. The devs in attendance had no explanation for the glitches that were happening. When asked about what buttons do what the guy who designed the new control scheme had no idea. He also talks about the crushing wave of defeat that washed over the room as Bayley turned heel, destroying her inflatable tube men, meaning that their game was already out of date AND all the time they spent recoding the physics on the tube men were a waste of time.

@@v.k.rt.m.6030 I'm actually not surprised. I've seen that before with the PlayStation era back in the day. Until about the PS2/PS3 transitional period, consistent control schemes weren't as... consistent. Before then, I would sometimes encounter cases where not even QA could figure out the controls, and they shipped the game anyways.

This is why I waited. My money didn't even go to 2k, it went to a friend of mine. 10$ plus another 10 and 9.99 for DLC I wanted. So far though I haven't ran into any issues and I am kinda enjoying it. I came into this game expecting to be tortured. Still wouldn't recommend the game though. If you really want it. buy a friends game and go to Ebay for DLC. xD
It's weird, a couple years ago (around 2017 and 2018) while everyone was still clowning on annual sports games I was kind of a defender of them. While I would never pay full price for a FIFA or an NBA or a UFC game, they were all still fun times until 2019. It seems like all of them have started getting *less* polished at the exact same time, and now I feel like a jerk for agreeing with the SPORTS GAMES BAD hivemind.

Yeah, this was inevitable. This is the result of when you just HAVE to get a new game out EVERY year. I really hope this doesn’t get taken down for copyright. I was super excited for this one. Also, still hoping for a Fant4stic episode.

worse, when you have to get a game out and decide that you can just replace all the devs on the middle of development. Yukes may have not been the best PR but they coulda waited like 3 months before terminating the contract, and while ramping up a new studio.
Served 2K right for all I'm concerned. Devs aren't just assembly workers you can replace on a dime.
What bothers me the most is that WWE signs off on every game before release. When I heard that, I was surprised. That means that WWE knew the game is shit and still released it anyway.
Michael Anderson the thing is also, Yuke’s did have the formula down. 2K fucked up when they took them off and gave it to Visual Concepts.
Minimum Viable Product
The most tragic part of all this is how All Stars didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel. THAT was an amazing game and had so much room for expansion.
It's the problem that sports games in general have had (and yeah pro wrestling isn't a 'sport' etc.)- as games became more elaborate and expensive to make, the market kinda contracted and there just isn't room for the simple, fun arcade-y ones.
I had some serious fun with my cousins and friends on that game. We’re overdue for a sequel or something man, that game was the shit
I prefered All stars over almost all SmackDown vs Raw game series. It's a shame that because it sold poorly we don't have a sequel
Maybe if people didn't bash on it so hard upon release, it would've had a sequel! But so many people trashed on it via social media so it hurt sales, so they never bothered working on another one

When you consider that Bethesda sold merch that was literally hazardous to your health and released a 100 dollar, buggy, shitty subscription service 2k has some competition. Also it's been speculated that they release Fallout 1st as a hail mary, they would used to spite Obsidian and deflate the launch of The Outer Worlds. If that's true, then Bethesda is incompetent, greedy and petty.
Canceling my collector edition preorder was the best decision I made this whole year.

Underrated
It’s a real shame because by 2K19 it felt like Yuke’s was really getting the hang of it. The create-a-wrestler storyline was great and the creation suite for the game was the largest it’s ever been. You can do so much stuff with that game, it’s great.

Just to add to this, I used 2K's support service because my copy of 2K20 would constantly crash. Like, all the time. They told me in was Playstation's fault and I should reformat my console if it keeps happen. I asked Playstation about this and they told me the error code I'd receive when 2K20 crashed was just a code to say the app I was using had experienced issues and crashed. I.E it was 2K20. I told 2K this and they came back to me with "this is a Playstation error, we cannot help you any further."
This was the point I applied for my refund and got it. £85 saved. The fact 2K have not issued any sort of apology is abhorrent.

@@leeartlee915 I’ve never bought a game on launch because it’s excessive. I’ll tell you a fun fact. Tekken is one of my favourite franchises and the definitive edition is £95 when not on sale. I saw it for £18 and snatched the chance. But in this day and age, if you’re asking for the full edition of the game without having to buy anything overtime, the price will grow exceedingly 😭
You think 85 pounds is bad. Try paying $100 for a new ps4 game and $150 for a special edition. Yep. WWE 2k23 Special Edition is $150 AUD.
Yukes era was my favourite WWE era. I remember spending hours trying to win a 6 man ladder match with 3 mates and 2 AI. The absolute abortions you could make in the character creation were brilliant.
I once had a Last Man Standing match go on for almost two hours against one of my mates. I won, but it was a fucking war. And it was amazing. That was about 15 years ago. You can't have that kind of fun with today's modern trainwrecks. WWE games are abortions with a WWE logo slapped on them. I've no idea why they're still being made. Do that many stupid kids exist to keep these things being shat out by 2K?

Me and my friend once spent two hours trying to beat each other in the same extreme rules match between Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan. It was one of those most intense matches I've ever played and we never regret spending that much time playing it
I remember on one of the older WWE games I made a character called Bathsalt Bum. He was dirty looking hairy skinny guy in white underwear with dreadlocks. A little bit of blood around the mouth from eating other bum's faces.

I honestly thought the same thing. Spot on.
I was surprised by the level of honesty on Yukes part. Everything she said was true, that yearly schedule was making it that there was not enough time to make new games, only time to give the previous years game a facelift. Without that opportunity to create something new the staff felt no real drive to excel, only to just get the work done.
I think WWE should go with the model that other fighting games have. Every few years you have a new base game come out and in between you give people season DLC. This will allow a game to stick around long enough to give the dev team time to craft the next generations version. All the while yearly giving people new content for the game they currently have out. Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter etc have all been using this model to varying levels of success.
The latest patch corrupted my friend's save file and when he reported it on Steam they deleted his comment a few hours or perhaps a day latter.
That's idiotic of *2K,* that will only drive their player base away. That's stupid to try to hide that, since their customers are experiencing it. It's like trying to silence a person for calling a fire department when they are many other people experiencing or witnessing the fire and it's showing live and the group trying to silence anyone from reporting it will look like stupid criminals trying to hide something that everyone already seen.
Companies only focusing on the short term instead of long term will kill their own business.

So Yukes was the glue that kept these games from falling apart. After the departure of Yukes things literally fell apart.

@@raccoonboi4225 The people who said that did have a point though, If the games had been handed properly to some of the more well known AAA game studios they likely would have made something much better. That being said, Yukes also wasn't terrible either; the WWE games were mostly okay imo and after working on the games for so many years it was clear that Yukes had developed a proper workflow for the yearly releases.Yukes was taken off the project a couple of months before release date so of course the new studio was doomed to completely fail. They didn't have enough time left to get familiar with the tech they were working with much less finish something made by another company.

One of the reasons why games like HCTP and No Mercy were so successful was because they weren't trying to be a simulation of real life. Just because the product is garbage in real life doesn't mean the game has to be too.
I miss the days of when you could have Mr. Ass fight three clones of himself, or when you could jump off a helicopter, land through a limousine in the middle of Times Square and get right back up and no sell it.

If any other employee besides devs were described in the same way, you'd think they had a problem or were overworked. Turns out...they're overworked. (Note: this is directed at the publisher/dev company, not Matt)
The fact that this practice still hasn't gone away in spite of how universally panned it is is one of the many reasons why I no longer want to become a game developer.
2K puts it together using glue and tape, then they decide microtransactions are good for the consumer. Rinse and repeat for next year.
The amount of glitches and fucked up broken shit in this game even makes Bethesda blush.

And also have a limited issue version with screw ups on product that is outside the game software itself. This used to be a description that was so specific that it couldn’t apply as a category, but no longer is that a case anymore. Hey I used to work for 2k games' tech support so I handled those tickets! And let me tell you something if you think that sending a ticket to support is futile for getting those autographs...
Yeah, you're correct. When we got a request like that we would just have to forward it up to some department and basically never hear anything back for weeks, despite us also sending notice after notice.
Bear in mind this was around 7 years ago. At the time the support was actually outsourced to a company that handled tech support, and we literally had a staff of under a dozen people for 2k AND Rockstar games COMBINED on the "front lines" as it were.
This was DURING the release of GTA V. There may have been as many as around 15 during the "high" times.
Say what you will about "Games as a service" but at least it generally results in a company being willing to actually FIX issues with games as they are still milking you after you buy it.

What really gets my goat, is that if you look hard enough, you'll see that 2k20 uses the same character models and even textures that 2k19 used..... Yet somehow it looks way worse. Wanna know how? Simple. They fucked up the lighting. Meaning shadows on the face are missing, there's highlights in weird places, and there seems to be less bump mapping, probably as a result of trying to make the light reflections better.
They straight up have a photo of the person's real face on top of a 3d scanned model of their real head. But because they borked the lighting, it looks wrong, and some don't even look like the person anymore.
Does anyone remember "Agents of Mayhem" by Volition? I genuinely would want to see What Happened to that game.
For me they could have saved it if they had done one thing. The agent Scheherazade was dealing with rifts in space time, or something I forget exactly. I kept thinking that one of those rifts would spawn The Boss. Thus actually tieing it into what we know of The Saints. But no, whatever they did was as forgettable as the rest of the game.

@@dmrogers7713 I still remember getting the premium edition at the price of $15 and after playing the game just couldn't bring myself to play more after beating it. The design was a step down the last two games and I have a feeling it's due to Deep Silver or something.
It was a spin-off with lazy game design and marketed in a way that confused a lot of people. The end.

Same. I got lucky that I was able to keep mostly good memories of the wrestling games I've played (never forget Smackdown: Just Bring It and its bad commentary).
