Have you even listen to Buddy Holly? This isn't even close. The correct beat is close to Bo Didley but very syncopated and way too much gain. Maybe it's him doing his own thing but Buddy is rolling over in his grave, cause this sucks.
It's a singer called Jack White. He (co-)founded three bands that sold millions of records and his work is loved by many. He plays guitar, piano and drums, as well as other instruments. He also writes his own material. He produces records. He's well respected by many artists. You're welcome. Oh wait... you weren't really looking for an answer? My bad.
This was the first song I ever learned when all I could do was make a crude e and a chord. I still play it and enjoy the simplicity and brilliance of it..
omfg i have a hard time with people doing buddy covers cos i am the girl that loves buddy holly but this is wonderful i am proud to call texas home and to be a holly hoppy
Didn't get jack at first yet he's a chameleon, can do it all and is always original. Keeps reinventing himself, unique sound. With all that's be done musically over the past 50+ years, think about it. He's good.
I bought three of his albums in one day.One after the other.Never knew who he was before. He looked like Damien Echolos of the West Memphis Three and then I listened.
This is basically how the song sounds without a band to accompany the guitar. It’s great for what it is. Should people just stop doing covers now, since it’s now considered “cringy” or “douchey” to pay homage to your favorite artists? I’m sure Buddy would be happy that people are still playing his music to this day. He’d be happy his music did not fade away.
You have no idea how Holly would think about this. His sound was clean and pure. Holly didn't have a band. He had a double bass and drummer. Did you know that when he recorded "Everyday the percussion was made by his drummer slapping his blue jeans.
@@fiddlefaddle1 Here you are again. "You have no idea how Holly would think about this" That's true and by that logic neither do you. Under a different comment you wrote "buddy holly is rolling over in his grave listening to this", wait so you can speak on his behalf but you're telling others they have no idea? Shut up.
I don't know why people find this shit? Jack white has his own voice sound in songs, i think its unique. So he has to have the same voice as nicki minaj or lil wayne? Shut up, jack white is amazing!
Watch Jack in the video "It might get loud in here". This kid is smart...real smart. Guitar is not his forte, music is his forte. This little video we are watching right now serves him justice in no way, shape or form.. Check out his song "Love Interrupted" for a real serving of Jack White.
Hey it rocks...Holly himself would not want x note for note copy why would anyone...covers are covers you want the original listen to it...I love The Holly...some of jack Whites material I'd good but I love this sound he gave to it..."glassy-blues/country" sound jacks alright wit me
to those who rip this guy------he never claimed to be Buddy friggin Holly . There was only one. But he has some steel balls to try to sound like him. And I was entertained at least. Go Jack go. And don't forget to wear sunscreen.
@xEdddie just saying, (if ur refering to studion albums as well) pink floyd, the beatles, and even foo fighters sometimes, use vocal affects on their music, at least on their albums. the beatles on magical mystery tour, and sgt pepper, songs liek i am the walrus, or lucy in the sky with diamonds (in the chorus) you can tell they use some affects, not stuff liek auto tune obviously, but like phasers and stuff. pink floyd in the song sheep, foo fighters in the song white limo. whatev, just sayn
Late comment, but I think you should check the full 12 minute version of this video. Jack leaves about 7 mins in and Seasick Steve takes over. If you've heard of him, cool, but if you haven't, I'd highly recommend checking it out.
@EpicRemixMan i listen to Nirvana, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Foo-Fighters, Buddy Holly, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bush, The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Metallica, Iron Maiden, The Animals, Motorhead, The Melvins, The Pixies, Rage Against The Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Van Halen, Tenacious D and others. So far i've never heard ANY of they're songs with a changed microphone affect, probably because i don't listen to modern music where you can change the microphone effect.
Cover tunes have a way of reaching alot of people that would otherwise have disregarded you. Covering a tune has a way of getting you an in...... in other words if you are a true music lover and not just a douche than you can appreciate a musical performance for what it is!!!!
You Tube comments mystify me. Music is not a zero-sum game. One version of a song doesn't diminish another. One guitarist doesn't have to be better than another. They can both just...be. I so don't get the "this sucks that's better!" crap people spew.
What's the first thing Jack says before he starts playing? Between "I'm a third man recording artist now,Swank?" and "There's more black gadgets to faces but..." It sounds like he's saying "feed in the back, don't we'll figure it out"
@r0llskyay0 Hey, thanks for stopping by to express your opinion. Now that I've seen that you have Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" on your channel I realize that your opinion is far more enlightened than mine and derived from an incredibly refined taste in high-caliber, deep, and meaningful songwriting.
If I thought chocolate the greatest of culinary creations I wouldn't necessarily devote myself to becoming it. I'd rather incorporate it into my being, ingest it, learn from it, and learn about myself as a take note of my affection for it. In the end I'd create excrement. Jack ingests blues but unlike my hypothetical self, his end result is a musical masterpiece all his own, and mine are pieces of non-permissive pieces of shit ( not unlike your self). Listen more than you hear. I pray you do.
Seems from comments on his videos that many people can't stand him. Not sure why they're watching the videos and commenting on them though, but hey it's the Internet
@gittahfiend His name is Jack White and if you think he sucks I would love to see you do better go ahead, make a video of you singing any song of your choosing then post it on here and see how many likes you get.
I love that he covered this song. Long live Buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!
An incredible musician paying tribute to a legendary musician. What's not to like?
Just saw one of Jack Whites vids by chance while browsing. Think I have found a new ARTIST to listen to...... he is amazing.
I personally love the sound. Can’t believe that people are hating on this
Have you even listen to Buddy Holly? This isn't even close. The correct beat is close to Bo Didley but very syncopated and way too much gain. Maybe it's him doing his own thing but Buddy is rolling over in his grave, cause this sucks.
@@fiddlefaddle1 Why are you so uptight? It's a fucking cover and there are no rules.
What's there not to love
@ok9908 I like when artists make a cover song their own. If I want to hear a note for note replication of the song I'll just listen to the original

Passion- that's what is missing from other modern artists. Love jack White!
Buddy Holly brought me here, Jack made me stay and now i'm going back to Buddy.
Awsome cover, Jack is a true artist.
This was the first song I ever learned when all I could do was make a crude e and a chord. I still play it and enjoy the simplicity and brilliance of it..

That Grestch is beautiful!
Wait...So we are all okay with judging a musician based on a phone recording of an impromptu outdoor concert?
Have we sunk so low?
I love this :)
Awesome version !
Just Awesome!!!
Best version ever. If Big Bopper had lived he would say the same.
Probably not Buddy Holly though.
this is utter shit...
You must of had the volume turned off? This is crap.
I like that your speaking for the big bopper right now aha met his son, big booper jr.
I like The Grateful Dead's version of this the most but I still like this. Don't understand all the hate.
I had no idea buddy died at 22.. So sad.. Just a baby... And so much talent... Well son your time ended here way w soon but you will never fade away
OWNED!
Criticism from those who just don't get Jack's style....get over it, whiners.......
I love it :)

F@#%n' A!! Gotta love it.
Cool 😎
@xEdddie That's because it's his interpretation and the mic is distorted, it's his style...
that was roooooood
Holly presente en todos ladoss
Nice version of not fade away. I wonder if some youngsters in the audience crowd think it's his song ;o)
Exactly! You're a perfect example.
I knew Yes would get back together
I good Deetroit boy singing blues-related songs. Great Buddy Holly song.
Cool
@originalbunkman a bit of an understatement, don't you think?
hope you went on...you have dead weather, raconteurs, himself and white stripes.... all of which is quite awesome
you know how You Tube works...a version of Stevie Nick singing 'Not Fade Away' lead me here
anyone knows that microphone's brand?
looks like a harmonica mic, but with a support for a stand, interesting...
Jack. White. Is. The. Fucking. Man.
this dude rox, and he's gotta go some to impress me - he did it
Welcome to the 21st century, where the computers will write all of our books, compose all of our music, and live our lives for us.
First of all, they don't have real voices. Jack White actually has a voice.

i love how jack white likes his mic sort of distorted

That was just o k .
He does the song justice. This song just goes down well hey?
Damn Jack White knows how to get the fuck DOWN.

Seen 1'000`s of versions of this. Not bad...
Buddy Holly would Buddy Holly this
I think Buddy Holly would love it. I think Mick Jagger would love it. Who originally did this song?
Very insightful, thank you. Rolling Stones got the beat right?

@xEdddie "It Might Get Loud" ?
I love the stones and buddy holly but dudes this is a thousand times better
Ain’t better than the Dead
I've noticed this, you can tell in almost anything!
I'm honestly not seeing it as such a bad thing...
What guitar is that?

@Samstrat94 I kinda like him now, that was 3 months ago... He's not bad though just not my style ya know? we all can't like the same music.
does jack black have gray hair?
hey look, it's ben. i love you, ben.
So you guys judge Jack for playing it like this but don't say anything about the Stones version?
thats the best version
Faeth Ross because the stones version is good
Kyle Bags i agree with you
@shinjukublack Oooooh, burn!
When did he say he was? He's just doing a cover
what type of guitar is that
IS VESSIO THE NEXT STRIPES?
What kind of microphone is jack white using?
Not 100% but it looks like a vintage sure ribbon mic. Could be wrong tho.
TextbookGerm not a good one !
Rock legends: Pete Townsend and Jimmy Page beg to differ; I'm going to trust their judgment.
IS VESSIO THE NEXT WHITE STRIPES?

@Gemini111666 There are whole genres based around people using broken/shitty/old equipment. And he isn't promoting anything.
Me thinks he should cover 'True Love Ways.'
Agreed, but we appear to be in the minority. In Rolling Stone's "Top 100 Guitarists," Jack White was rated in the top 20, above...gulp...Jeff Beck.
