I really like how the Universal Monsters are portrayed in this. Even Dracula's Brides. They could've easily made a great stand alone horror film for adults with any one of the characters using the same actors and practical effects.
HOLY MOLY DUDE. when you showed the clip of house 2 of the old mummy cowboy dude. I spit my drink all over the screen. I have spent years trying to find the move he was on. Thank you thank you thank you. It's been driving me mad for years.
No way! Ah, so glad we could help you figure that out! We did a whole episode on it and we even put Sean in Gramps makeup for our Garb-BQ promos a few years back. Check it out when you can 😂

I never even knew this movie existed until I was well into adulthood. I was 5 in 87 and I never saw it until I was in my late 20's/early 30's. It somehow evaded me for decades.
"I heard he killed his dad..." On the anniversary edition audio commentary, Ryan Lambert says he does think Rudy killed his dad. It adds a lot of gravitas to "Bang! Only one way to kill a werewolf...", like that isn't the first time Rudy had to stop a monstrous man.
Saw this when I was about 5, scared the shit out of me. I'm gonna wait till my little dudes are around 8 or 9. Maybe 10? Depends on their outlook, and what they can handle. Thanks for covering this one guys, one of my favorites
The classic where a Werewolf is kicked in the nards& is also blown up....nards&all. Also the universal monsters are defeated by the power of Rammstein lyrics! 😆 can't wait for this episode, should be entertaining as usual 🤘
One of my all time favorites growing up, crazy how fred dekker goes from writing the screenplay for house. then directing night of the creeps, the monster squad to robocop 3 doesn't make sense how you go from a string of great films to a career destroying bomb. but the monster squad is my favorite for sure.
I was definitely one of those kids that grew up watching the classic universal monster movies with my Dad. The wolf man was the first one I saw and then I needed to watch all the rest. Didn't see this one until a few years ago after hearing you guys mention it in an earlier episode, bummed I didn't see it sooner, it's great!
I sing Rock Until You Drop all the damn time! Still one of my favorite monster movies of all time. This is the first movie I watch at the beginning of spooky season.
The first time I can remember talking with my cousins about; ok, here's who dracula is and here's how he dies and Wolfman needs silver bullets, etc., it was Monster Squad that I was drawing all my facts from. This was DEFINITELY my first classic monsters movie, and still one of my favorites.
Me and brothers and cousins watched this movie off a recorded vhs tape for years and was always one of our favorite movies as a kid. I went to Best Buy to buy the dvd the day it was released and ran into one of my cousins there buying it as well😂 classic movie love it. I can’t wait to show it to my daughter when she is older.
What is Sean trying to say about when Dracula is in bat form and gets shot? Logically, you'd assume the bat form to be a much weaker form for Dracula. Taking a gunshot from a .45 would be an incredible amount of damage to him considering the exit wound alone would probably cover 40 percent of its body. Sometimes I do feel like Sean be watching these while on his phone. How you miss the fact Sean's Mom got the diary at a yardsale? Great episode!

I was 5or6 yrs old in 88or89 and found this on cable w/mom one day for the 1st time. I immediately asked her when would it be on again so we could record it? I grew up with this on a double bill VHS, once the Goonies ended on comes the Monster Squad. The Squad will always be on top of the "special place" pile in my❤ U close Saun. Well, in some ways you had great timing, and in other ways, not so great. Reason not so great is also why it took me a few days to get to this video. Quite a few long videos currently in my background folder. But reason for the great timing, last month, while I was picking out horror movies to watch, one of them I decided to do was Monster Squad, so when I first saw this pop up when you set it to be premiered, I kinda laughed a bit, thinking, oh, such good timing on this. 😂🤣 Yeah, this was one that I first saw on VHS that my dad had, later got on DVD, then later Blu Ray, actually got it on Blu Ray same time I got a Blu Ray Boxset of the Universal Studios Monster Movies, felt fitting, then later on a Streaming Boxset, so yeah, pretty much every version of media I've got this on. And another way the timing was good, tonight I only had 3 previously caught up with Dev games in my list, and was wrapping up the final mission on the current build on the last game when your video ended, so this video lasted almost throughout the entire gaming session tonight. 😉 And thank you for that, really enjoyed having you guys in the background tonight.
I think it’s like a Frankenstein thing where the monster is associated with the title. Both are right, but the doc refers to it as the Gillman. Totally interchangeable and correct. What’s more is that I think TECHNICALLY Frankenstein’s monster IS Frankenstein by name, as he refers to the doctor as his father/creator. -Joe
I'm probably the exact political opposite of Sean but I'm always amused when he just randomly brings up some edgy or.. antiquated stuff from the 80s and 90s and preface it by saying "I know I'll get hell." For some reason I'm always amused when he does that 😂 it's some of my favorite moments. Please don't stop, Sean. You're fine, man
I don't think I've watched any universal monsters...but im ready and willling.. especially that goofy wrestling movie with monsters..but thats not universal..I digress..
Its an actor accurately portraying an 80s school bully, but it IS cringey though but it was the 80s. I still cringe that I used the word, never hatefully only misguided by the time and falsely under the impression that it was comedic to say to friends. Still it was so wrong to use. Atleast it can warrant a talk with parents who are introducing their children to the movie about unacceptable language
Wolfmans got nards is a great documentary, 2nd to, the best worst movie, about troll 2, I'm 44 and monster squad was my favorite movie when it was on HBO in the late 80s early 90s
"Kids from the 80s and 90s talked that way" "I would be remiss to not mention it" Actually, if it's a completely normal thing for the time, them it's not really necessary to mention it. Think of it in context of clothes in certain time periods. You can look at an 80s movie and understand it's 80s clothes. It's rare that someone picks apart individual pieces of clothing characters are wearing, they just say that the clothes are clearly 80s clothes. It's the same with dialogue. Every single reviewer/reactor/commentator to do monster squad seems to need to highlight specific lines that are "of the time". And that's why trump got elected. Sorry. But why not say "there's some very 80s dialogue in this movie" just like you'd say "there's some very 80s clothes in this movie" I've never seen a video on monster squad that gave the chicken shit line as much time as the do the antigay lines and the chicken shit line is much funnier, is more memorable, and actually has a child cursing as a way of using humor to set an otherwise ridiculous scene
@MovieDumpster if the opportunity for discussions to include race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, homophobia, transphobia, racism, any of these or similar topics, it seems like they must. Those lines are some of the most insignificant bits of dialogue in the movie, common vernacular chosen for filler dialogue, yet you'd be remiss to not mention it? In a movie about way cooler things where sexuality is barely even an undertone? To you, the presence of those lines stood out as an unnecessary negative feature that should be mentioned to others as a bit of a warning, since you frame it as some kind of failing to not address it, and there must be a reason for that People didn't vote for trump because they love trump, at least not enough to get him elected. They elected him because they don't want every single discussion ever to have to include discussion on topics like this. Those lines are not important to a discussion about the movie. They don't enrich the discussion, they condescend to the topic and to those that appreciate it. Not focusing on the issue or what people came for, but instead on race, and gender, and sexuality; again, and again, and again. Think of it this way, the movie includes language and ideas you see as problematic and as symbols of a still present problem. You feel that you just have to bring it up because it's bad enough that you have to. That behavior has seemed to push people away over the last many years. To the point where to some people start to think that those who just "have to" bring things like that up, where there is no need for it, are including language and ideas they see as problematic and as symbols of a still present problem I know it may not make sense to you but the incessant interjection of those discussions into every other discussion, justified or not, is literally what made just enough Americans vote for trump to actually elect him. Yes, there are other issues that could have played more heavily into the election but they didn't In the context of this video, I'd point out the growing push for our escapisms to truly be escapist again. People want their entertainment to take them away from their lives. Even analytical entertainment like this. When the entertainment people consume no longer let's them escape their lives, they then embrace entertainment that attacks that which attacks their escapism. Some might call it the algorithm radicalizing people; I'd call it a natural reaction to race, gender, sexuality, and every other topic that is insignificant yet takes up all the oxygen preventing them from escaping it I'm willing to bet most viewers kind of just sighed heavily when you had to bring it up, or else risk being remiss. Maybe I'm wrong, but with the results of the election I don't think so I didn't vote for Trump
Yeah the monster squad was definitely gateway horror all I could have done without the blatant homophobia and fatphobia Horace was awesome, EJ eats ground Snickers and Sean and his little buddy need to watch their mouths And before you come at me I'm a gen xer and I know that hatred is wrong
The character that said it was the douchbag bully , he was portrayed clearly as the bad guy and everyone cheered loudly when Rudy made him look like the loser he was. Works for me.
really.. this dude is butthurt over the "homophobic" insult in the movie. so sick of these wimpy snowflakes ruining everything. is it what it is, live with it.

Underrated line from Detective Sapir (Stan Shaw):

What is Sean trying to say about when Dracula is in bat form and gets shot? Logically, you'd assume the bat form to be a much weaker form for Dracula. Taking a gunshot from a .45 would be an incredible amount of damage to him considering the exit wound alone would probably cover 40 percent of its body.

Sorry. But why not say "there's some very 80s dialogue in this movie" just like you'd say "there's some very 80s clothes in this movie"
I've never seen a video on monster squad that gave the chicken shit line as much time as the do the antigay lines and the chicken shit line is much funnier, is more memorable, and actually has a child cursing as a way of using humor to set an otherwise ridiculous scene
What does any of that have to do with Trump??? -Sean
To you, the presence of those lines stood out as an unnecessary negative feature that should be mentioned to others as a bit of a warning, since you frame it as some kind of failing to not address it, and there must be a reason for that
People didn't vote for trump because they love trump, at least not enough to get him elected.
To the point where to some people start to think that those who just "have to" bring things like that up, where there is no need for it, are including language and ideas they see as problematic and as symbols of a still present problem
I know it may not make sense to you but the incessant interjection of those discussions into every other discussion, justified or not, is literally what made just enough Americans vote for trump to actually elect him. Yes, there are other issues that could have played more heavily into the election but they didn't
In the context of this video, I'd point out the growing push for our escapisms to truly be escapist again. People want their entertainment to take them away from their lives. Even analytical entertainment like this. When the entertainment people consume no longer let's them escape their lives, they then embrace entertainment that attacks that which attacks their escapism. Some might call it the algorithm radicalizing people; I'd call it a natural reaction to race, gender, sexuality, and every other topic that is insignificant yet takes up all the oxygen preventing them from escaping it
I'm willing to bet most viewers kind of just sighed heavily when you had to bring it up, or else risk being remiss. Maybe I'm wrong, but with the results of the election I don't think so
I didn't vote for Trump
I think I had a damn stroke trying to read this street corner rant lmfao 🤪
@sara3liza well thanks for spending the time
Yeah the monster squad was definitely gateway horror all I could have done without the blatant homophobia and fatphobia
Horace was awesome, EJ eats ground Snickers and Sean and his little buddy need to watch their mouths
And before you come at me I'm a gen xer and I know that hatred is wrong
The character that said it was the douchbag bully , he was portrayed clearly as the bad guy and everyone cheered loudly when Rudy made him look like the loser he was. Works for me.
How dare you disparage the very famous Tony @hackthemovies
really.. this dude is butthurt over the "homophobic" insult in the movie. so sick of these wimpy snowflakes ruining everything. is it what it is, live with it.
I talked about it for 2 minutes in a 2 hour review and you left a comment about it. Who’s more butthurt? -Sean
Holy spectrum 😮💨 Do you need your fidget spinner to calm you down, big kid?
