  • This is our first time taking a military flight to Japan using Tony's retirement benefits. We decided to document it!

Great video...a washer in a tiny hotel room makes it an automatic 5-star hotel. Really good!!! Would have liked to have seen more video footage of the processing and boarding along with the more of the flight. I've taken this flight many times to and from Kadena on my Space A adventures to Germany but have stopped due to Covid. Maybe someday again. I'm retired on Okinawa. Thank you.

I have had those Space-A flight benefits for many years. My experience...

Thanks for posting the video…I remember having to stop in Anchorage on the way to Japan back in 1980 on a DC 8.
So if you fly into Kadena they will provide transportation to Japanese customs and immigration? What was the name of the hotel in Okinawa?
    Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. The on-duty person took us to immigration and customs. The name of the hotel was Hotel Sunset Terrace.

do you recommend this trip for a family of 6 with young kids? i am 100% T&P disabled veteran and i’m trying to do research on space a travel flights/lodging and would love any advice or additional info you could give. thank you

With young kids it may be rough but doable if they can sleep on planes. It is a lot of waiting but for the fact it is so cheap it is worth it to me. It was way easier coming back. Okinawa is very resort like. Flights are cheap within Japan so getting there is half the battle. We flew into Misawa a few months ago. Sleepy little town with one flight to Tokyo a day.

Are you aware for service connected disabled veterans at 100% T&P are ONLY allowed to fly CONUS (continental US), and territories (i.e. Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, etc.) but NOT overseas? I am hoping that at some point this law gets changed. I mean why not, right?
