NYC hip-hop is heavily based on sampling jazz & James Brown beaks..You have to understand there was so much musical 🎶 industry; assassination of sampling. Many notable artists got intertwined in real legal issues! Many people don’t know that an artist or group can literally face jail time for SAMPLING! I personally know an old producer from North Jersey! Jay-Z even sampled m; his old group Con-Funkshun. The elder told me that Jay is still paying him to this day. So it can really be expensive; to make a NYC style pure hip-hop album.
+DJ Archive back then the remixes were usually the version to blow artist up. They were in most instances far better than the LP versions. Wake Up- Brand Nubian, Bonita Applebum- ATCQ, You're All I Need- Meth & Mary J, Buddy- Dela Soul etc just to name a few of many..

I was a teenager back when this came out, this was a great time for hip hop....good beats, rythmaatic flow, cleaver lyrics and real dj's with techniques 1200's , 2 or 4 channel mixer, crates of records and the ability scratch, mix and ... 90's hip hop was the peak of the wave for talent based music. Still have some blackmoon on wax from my days as a dj! Now I'm in my 40's and often listen to stuff like this because these are resl MC's with real DJ's....much respect and Long live REAL hip hop
I'm all for these new kids learning what real Hip-Hop was. Truth be told you had to be a part of that era. I was 15 years old in 1994. I pretty much grew up with Hip-Hop. I'm 36 now and when I watch these videos it takes me back to a place. I grew up poor but all I really had was the music to zone out to. I use to run home from school to record music videos on watching Rap City with Joe Clair and Big Lez. These new kids wouldn't understand if I explained it to them. Rappers couldn't sound the same back then. Onyx couldn't sound like Wu-Tang. OGC/Black Moon couldn't sound like Pete Rock and CL Smooth. This is what makes my generation of music so timeless. I really miss that part of Hip-Hop.
This beat can be on repeat forever....thats when you know you have a classic. Buck Shot was the perfect cadence and flow for this record and Evil Dee is a genius. I used to record DJ Evil Dee's mixes from the radio as a kid and collect them, his ear for what was good in Hip Hop was so precise, he never wanted to associate himself to anything garbage. I have met Buckshot and seen Black Moon live in NYC over a dozen times. The first time I saw this play on Video Music Box in the 90s it was like a Beatles on Ed Sullivan moment. I was instantly a fan. Buck puts in work every time he hits the stage and you will never be disappointed. Evil Dee is one of the most underrated producers in the history of the game. There is a pride you feel in your heart when you hear Black Moon, Tribe or Mobb Deep. Those times were the pinnacle of life in New York City.
Facts when I was a little Kid I always wanted to meet Buckshot remember when all this shit was out . But I never got chance he always seemed pretty cool.
When that video channel The Box used to be out(I know only old heads know about that). The first time I saw this on there I waited till they played it again, and recorded it. NYC hip-hop is heavily based on sampling jazz & James Brown beaks..You have to understand there was so much musical 🎶 industry; assassination of sampling. Many notable artists got intertwined in real legal issues! Many people don’t know that an artist or group can literally face jail time for SAMPLING! I personally know an old producer from North Jersey! Jay-Z even sampled m; his old group Con-Funkshun. The elder told me that Jay is still paying him to this day. So it can really be expensive; to make a NYC style pure hip-hop album.

I was a teenager back when this came out, this was a great time for hip hop....good beats, rythmaatic flow, cleaver lyrics and real dj's with techniques 1200's , 2 or 4 channel mixer, crates of records and the ability scratch, mix and ... 90's hip hop was the peak of the wave for talent based music. I'm all for these new kids learning what real Hip-Hop was. Truth be told you had to be a part of that era. I was 15 years old in 1994. I pretty much grew up with Hip-Hop. I'm 36 now and when I watch these videos it takes me back to a place. I grew up poor but all I really had was the music to zone out to. I use to run home from school to record music videos on watching Rap City with Joe Clair and Big Lez. These new kids wouldn't understand if I explained it to them. Rappers couldn't sound the same back then. Onyx couldn't sound like Wu-Tang. OGC/Black Moon couldn't sound like Pete Rock and CL Smooth. This is what makes my generation of music so timeless. I really miss that part of Hip-Hop.

I have met Buckshot and seen Black Moon live in NYC over a dozen times. The first time I saw this play on Video Music Box in the 90s it was like a Beatles on Ed Sullivan moment. I was instantly a fan. Buck puts in work every time he hits the stage and you will never be disappointed. Evil Dee is one of the most underrated producers in the history of the game. There is a pride you feel in your heart when you hear Black Moon, Tribe or Mobb Deep. Those times were the pinnacle of life in New York City.
